JAB Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Can someone explain "Sumokan" to me please? I heard it refers to training the sixth sense or something along those lines!?!? Thanks Jake
Harry Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Hmm, the only sumokan I knew of in general use is the one for a hall or building in which to watch or train for sumo, similar to eigakan for a movie theatre, sumokan: 相撲館; cf. eigakan: 映画館. However, I did some searching and 第六感 (dairokkan) is the sixth sense in Japanese so perhaps 相撲感 sumokan, the feeling of sumo, is what you mean by sumokan. I did a google on 相撲感 and came up with some hits so it is not that obscure after all. I haven't found a page with a definition of it, only use in context so I'm afraid I can't tell you much about it but I can translate some lines which use it if that would be of interest.
JAB Posted December 27, 2008 Author Posted December 27, 2008 Well Harry I saw a mention of it on a National Geo blurb about Sumo. They did not offer the charachters so I cannot be of much help there. Thanks though, Jake
Hananotaka Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Sumo-kan = sumo sense. As in, one's feel for one's opponent, the dohyo, and the flow of the match. Typically it comes up when a rikishi has been kyujo -- he may be physically healthy, but has been he able to train enough to regain his sumo-sense?
