HenryK Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 For me Y1E Hakuho (13-1) by uwatenage over Y1W Asashoryu (13-1) on day 15 of Hatsu basho.
sekihiryu Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 2008.05 Day 8 S1e Ama utchari M2w Wakanoho this bout IIRC was one of the best examples of Utchari you will ever see.

Koneko Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 2008.05 Day 8 S1e Ama utchari M2w Wakanoho OMG yes. This is the sort of bout you show to those of your friends who just don't get it, and they'll nod and say "okay, I understand what you mean".

Mattjila Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 The utchari is viewable here. And well, probably lots of places.
Kozaru Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 I agree with Nishinoshima. The ending of Ama-Wakanoho was the best one-second in 2008, but nothing could match the importance and overall level of the Asa-Hakuho match in January (And just to brag, I too was in the Kokugikan for it). The match was being hyped for at least 48 hours before it occurred. You can't say that about the Ama-Wakanoho match.
01010101 Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Asashoryu -V- Hakuho senshuraku hatsu basho. No contest. Two yokozuna going at it for the yusho on the final day in an epic contest held in an absolutely amazing atmosphere in the Kokugikan. Having been there for that and the Ama -Wakanoho bout I can't see how anyone could even compare the two. Even if I didn't hate ucchari I don't see how a desperation move at the end of an otherwise forgetable contest can be classed as a "great bout". It's like saying a "hail mary" pass at the end of a boring game of American Football suddenly made the game great. wow, an expert analysis! speak for yourself.
Otokonoyama Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Moderator Notice 01010101, if you disagree with Nishinoshima's opinion, you could do so a little more respectfully, and explain why you disagree. Maybe even offer a response to the OP yourself.Nish, fuse's a little short today... :-)
Hananotaka Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 For me Y1E Hakuho (13-1) by uwatenage over Y1W Asashoryu (13-1) on day 15 of Hatsu basho. I remember that bout.

That said, plays like Doug Fluties Hail Mary pass and the "Immaculate Reception" are remembered much more than any nailbiter superbowls, at least here in the states. Maybe not great, but definitely remembered.

One of the best hikitsuke-ai I've ever seen. Plus I always get a tingle down my back whenever a Japanese commentator says 'Ozumo ni narimashita.' The Ama-Wakanoho one strikes me as a great example though of never giving up and hanging on till the very end.
ilovesumo Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 I can't rember...somehow my mind stopped working with Asagate...I could not watch the livestream very often, when the nice japanese person stopped, the french problem occured, I stopped watching vids. I miss watching Makushita very much. If you ask me, it's the better "Makuuchi". Had to run to school after Juryou almost every day...and that was all I wanted to watch...
