(moved my post...)
Kasugao (1-9) over Kitazakura by yorikiri, 3.6 seconds

---------------------------------------------------------------

(Finally stopping his losing streak at 9)

"This basho feels so long. I got a win finally."

(Experiencing so much troubles at tachiai)

"Well I think I finally got used to it now. I no longer need to think about it long before I go in."

"I feel so relieved now. Hope this will be the start of a long winning streak."

Well, so much for that. Four matta today, all pretty much identical in nature...if I caught it correctly on the stream he was admonished quite severely by the shinpan-cho after the third, and by the gyoji after the fourth. And then of course Chiyohakuho henka'ed the crap out of him on attempt #5...

In each case, Kasugao's second hand was moving down when Chiyo started moving forward, but Kasugao was castigated for not having his hand down. (I am not worthy...) (Blowing up furiously...)

The enforcement has been dicey to say the least. Each gyoji and each head shimpan has his own concept of what is or is not a legal tachiai.

Chiyotaikai and Hakuhou were nowhere near the ground today. At least in Chiyo's case, it gave him complete advantage and the win.

it was takanohana and he was actually quite kind in the way he spoke compared the gruff head shimpan we are used to.

But, yes that bout was a (I am not worthy...) ing joke, one of the mistarts was actually a pretty decent tachai but the gyoji had a 'bee in his bonnet' and was seeking perfection.

I sincerely hope they sort out the farce by next basho -have a meeting as Asa suggested, and practice the tachai in Keiko -whatever, or go back to the good old ways.....

wow yah, Kasugao vs Chiyohakuho. what a shame of a match, in so many lvls... i even felt bad for Takanohana. i was almost expecting to see Kasugao telling them to f off and stepping down the dohyo. and then they had them redo the orei. what was that about? i saw at least Kasugao bowing purposely deep the first time.

anyway, definitely uncomfortable to watch. so many matches being affected, so many results influenced all because of the K Bros.

Beside of all the 'problems' in the past it still was fun to simply watch Sumo. But now they've 'successfully' worked on that. And it hasn't helped much. (I am not worthy...)

I'm losing my enthusiasm, especially without any broadcast in Europe.

Thought the same!

Number 5 and he would have left the hall...

thank god he did not....

Be strong!!!

I loose nothing but my confidence...but the enthusiasm won't go.

Guess I made too much a fool out of myself, the whole university knowing me being the Sumo student :-P

I guess that it will never happen because of the entrenched traditions in Japanese professional sumo but I think that the trouble with all the matta and henka in sumo is easily solved by simply having the rikishi put both hands down, and then wait for an official gesture from the gyoji to start the bout, sort of like the lights in drag racing. Once the gyoji says something like "go" or "fight" or "charge" then the bout is officially started, and matta would never happen. If a rikishi jumped the gun and charged before the gyoji said "go", he would be disqualified. It sounds simple and it is. Why the heck hasn't anyone with some political clout in sumo suggested something like this?

No-no-no! Disqualification is too hard, simply new start. When false start begins problem, then Kyokai must think something new!

That's exactly the way it's done in amateur sumo. Of course it would work in Ozumo, too. But for me (and I guess many other fans) one of the more beautiful aspects of Ozumo has always been the "mutual breathing" tachiai without need for an official signal.

That has been thoroughly destroyed by Musashigawa now, so they could as well start employing your idea.

You might change your mind on that after Estonia. :-P

Have you been secretly training the "Japanese" tachiai? They won't let you get away with it! >:-(

It was getting pretty ugly during and after the Kasugao - Chiyohakuho bout today. The natives were getting restless and there were hues and cries to be heard everywhere even in a washroom right by the Dohyo Judges room (so I was told).

Those blatant tachiai henka won't endear anyone either.

As others said here, one of the problems, they are not calling them consistently. Some judges and gyoji are much more strict while others simply let go especially after the second shikiri. Either guys like Kasugao learn it quickly or the new rijicho is in deep as more and more fans are complaining about all these delays.

I am not sure which way is better - the Hokutoriki fly-by or the current fiasco, but at least for him, that made it a part of the attraction.

Day 13 - Tokitenku was rightly distraught about the lack of a matta call in his match with Kise. Kise did not come close to a legal start even under the old standards. Toki pulled up expecting a call, but none came. After the match, Toki stood his ground for several seconds glaring at the gyoji

Seems they gave up on it... B-)

Agree. Enforcement seemed loose to non-existent today.

After yesterday's mess with Chiyohakuho, I could imagine Princess Aiko summoning Musashigawa for an audience to set his head straight. (Order, order!) (Raging at computer...)
