Jakusotsu Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 There are only four good pictures on that calender, the rest is just photoshop made filler, like all the sekitori standing on the stairs. Don't tell me the Lego Yokozuna Pirate is no photoshop job?! (...and where is the fourth?) :-)
That-Satsu-Guy Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 There are only four good pictures on that calender, the rest is just photoshop made filler, like all the sekitori standing on the stairs. Don't tell me the Lego Yokozuna Pirate is no photoshop job?! (...and where is the fourth?) :-) Actually, that Lego guy is a cowboy themed Lego that I painted as a still-life in college. Asashoryu is the January-February page from the calendar, and I couldn't bring myself to throw it away.
arcus Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 (edited) These pictures are great. (Shaking head...) Thanks for sharing! Do you know where they were taken? These pictures taken from the Mongolian wall calendar (Laughing...) . Edited April 1, 2008 by arcus
kaiguma Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 Asa and future yokozuna Ama. Ah, a man after my own heart! (assuming Arcus is a man. Apologies if otherwise (Shaking head...))
Manekineko Posted April 7, 2008 Author Posted April 7, 2008 (edited) A favor, please: could you let me know (by PM, so not to clutter this topic) are the images I posted on first pages visible? I cannot load public-access files on my account, which is probably due to server change, and possibly to my new location (Japan! at last). So before I start bothering my admin with long-distance mails, I would like a check. Thank you. (Sign of approval...) Edit: three people say they are gone. That's good enough for me, I shall go forth and bother. When I get the time. ;-) Edited April 7, 2008 by Manekineko
aderechelsea Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 thought i'll give this topic a bit of a revival, soooo .... here goes: Some Taiho pics
aderechelsea Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Tochihikari (on the right of course) with Tochinishiki (don't remember his name as an Oyakata) as a young recruit with kesho batting with his class at school. I cannot read the caption bu ti guess he is at the top row second from right :-) with wife
aderechelsea Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Kitanofuji and Kotozakura Sadanoyama his wife and kid throwing his kid in the air but it doesn't look it cares. Keeps on eating something ... :-) now it's getting eaten by a dog but wouldn't care less again ... ;-)

aderechelsea Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 former Haguroyama snipping the oicho-mage of Hagurohana and the final result another snipped oicho .. this time Iwakaze's Aonoumi doing some teppo exercises Tenchiyama got jealous Mitsuhikari doing some weights
aderechelsea Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Tochinoumi doing some keiko stretching his back getting some massage on the neck enjoying a cigarette after keiko ... :-)
Washuyama Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Tochihikari (on the right of course) with Tochinishiki (don't remember his name as an Oyakata) He was Kasugano for years, but I don't know if he had a different kabu immediately after his retirement prior to assuming Kasugano.
Harry Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 with his class at school. I cannot read the caption bu ti guess he is at the top row second from right :-) 真中の一番背の高いのが栃光 "While at primary school too, he loved sumo. The middle[row]'s tallest is Tochihikari." You can see that he is a head taller than the other boys in his row.
aderechelsea Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Usui (Juryo9 Tochibayama) on the right ... no idea who's the other one so i included the caption. Usui again physical exams for the new entrants of January 1966.
Harry Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 thought i'll give this topic a bit of a revival, soooo .... here goes:Some Taiho pics Note that the kanji for 打 in the caption is a more complicated version that I cannot type with the IME though both are utsu うつ with similar meaning. Overall this caption uses very complicated versions of kanji even though simpler versions exist for most. It is possible that a row of characters is missing from the bottom but I have just gone with what I can see. 伊豆山腹を背に、大鵬は伸び伸びとトレーニングを竣 "Heave ho," a big striking voice Taiho lofts a big log with ease. At the back of the Izu mountainside, Taiho is refreshed when he completes his training.
Doitsuyama Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Usui (Juryo9 Tochibayama) on the right ... no idea who's the other one so i included the caption. It's Tachihikari in his first basho as Ms50Td.
Harry Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 now it's getting eaten by a dog but wouldn't care less again ... Only its body is big but the yet to be one year old shepherd is Emikochan's good friend. It rushes in at full speed to see Emikochan
Harry Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Mitsuhikari doing some weights Interesting that someone wrote his name on his mawashi so he wouldn't mix it up with everyone else's...
Harry Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 (edited) Usui (Juryo9 Tochibayama) on the right ... no idea who's the other one so i included the caption. There is a difference between Obe (Makushita 50, later Tachihikari as Doitsuyama said above) the shindeshi who entered originally from university sumo and Usui(maezumo)'s first dohyo appearances. The two men who left their first dohyo appearances with good results promised a good fight while strolling down the road in Ryokoku. Usui again Note below that 励む is displayed but the kanji version used above is an older more comlicated version so it doesn't look exactly the same but the meaning is the same. Obe, Usui continued with Yamada (Tokitsukaze beya) who entered from Shindai doing diligent keiko. Edited April 19, 2008 by Harry
aderechelsea Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Interesting that someone wrote his name on his mawashi so he wouldn't mix it up with everyone else's... not really .... most rikishi do.
Harry Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 and the final result Caption: 「十年間の土俵に心残りはない。今後は後進の指導に当たり立派な力士を作りたい」と語を羽黒花は、マゲのない頭に手をやって笑う "Ten years of the dohyo, I have no regrets. From now on, I want to make truly splendid rikishis by developing them with my guidance," said Hagurohana, laughing as he touches his hand to his mageless head.
Harry Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Interesting that someone wrote his name on his mawashi so he wouldn't mix it up with everyone else's... not really .... most rikishi do. I guess I haven't looked closely enough as I haven't seen many who do.
At the keiko place Kotozakura could be seen confidently brimming full with laughter.
