I didn't tune in on time, so I missed that bout. What has happened there - in the NSK site I see the kimarite "default". In the Doitsubase is written "hansoku".. What did Kokkai do? Pulling hair?

Kokkai mentioned having his fingers taped and that tape stuck in the mage. Close-ups / repeats showed no 'pull' but rather a single digit apparently caught. (little finger so not one with much power)

In my humble opinion Kokkai beat Kimurayama, Tochinoshin beat Futeno, and Asasekiryu beat Miyaibayma. Strange that they didn't manage to give Wakanoho vs. Tochinonada to the Japanese guy as well.

I don't like this at all. Especially since if Kokkai had gotten the victory, I had a KK instead of a MK in Seki-Quad !

Now I understand why I was requested to remove the image. My bad! I should've checked the image in question. Turned out it was either an animated one or somehow run by some script.

My apologies!

Hmmm, it's rather curious that they haven't managed to give a yusho to a Japanese guy in some time as well.....what gives?

Hmm.... I knew I would get slapped on my fingers for this... :-)

One more bit of information.

Kokkai said after the bout that when they raised the mono-ii, he knew instantly it was about his finger having poked into the mage as he felt it. On the other hand Kimurayama had no idea. However he said he just wondered why all of sudden his head appeared to move forward.

I really like Kokkai and how he conducts himself on and off the dohyo but he seems like he forgot all about how he was successful before. This bout is a typical of his bouts these days, just keep pulling and slapping down his opponents.

Obviously he never intentionally pulled Kimurayama's mage but if he keeps slapping his opponent's head, then a thing like this will bound to happen. What he needs to do is to change his m.o. back to what he used to do before when he was manhandling his opponents.

Weren't we just heralding Kokkai two basho ago for getting away from the pulling because it had stopped working for him, and developing some decent yotsu-zumo? :-) This basho looked a lot more to me like he went back to what originally had made him successful, but just like a year ago it's not working anymore.

One of the English language announcers (won't say which one... :-) ) said the mage pulling had to be judged intentional in order for a hansoku to be called. I thought intent didn't matter, but perhaps I was wrong. Said announcer seemed almost shocked that one was called. What's the real deal...anyone know? Thanks.

If you just look at the slow motion video you'll see the head of Kokkai's opponent is suddenly pulled to another direction. It's clearly a fault.

Do you really believe that any rikishi would say "yes I did that intentionaly"?

Yes video watching ability may be the key.

We will have to thank all those living in japan for making sumo clips available.

Who are they by the way? MB? don't think so. Too concerned on HIS magazine!
