Hakuho

Kotomitsuki

Homasho

Kotooshu

Kakuryu

Takamisakari

Yoshikaze

If I remember correctły the deadline is one later than for examle Seki-Toto (I remember being able to change my picks when Asashoryu went kyujo, whereas in toto it was already too late), so I hope it is not to too late to post my picks here.

If someone will put it into game's database is another story...

I remember last time when we had a problem with japan-guide server, the admin could not help.

What time will you be inaccessible from?

A server of Sumo Game fell around 1 year ago.

A server of Sumo Game down for a long time then, and I informed it of vote contents by an email.

However, the sponsor can't deal, too, and I have become "kuroboshi" handling though I was originally "shiroboshi" on that day.

The Basho has become Makekoshi after all though I should have become Kachikoshi by 7-8.

A sponsor should give some responses at the time of server down, but it is ...

1 year ago when is supporting it, the expectation may not be possible.

It's the answer of the email which the following sent 1 year ago.

Regarding the server problems of today, I am sorry, there is no way to submit the lineup other than by online form.

In the rare case of technical problems, I am afraid that will result in inconvenience and inability to submit a line up.

Thank you for your understanding & kind regards,

At least in Sumo Game you have a default line-up, although it usually doesn't help, so you can still get some sort of lucky.. There is no point sending an entry here-Sumo Game is one of the few that isn't run by a member of the forum, so the chances of the owner seeing it are slim.

Even if he did, there is nothing he can do about it, as he himself has said.

it's back up now, although the day 13 results haven't been processed yet

looks like my opponent didn't enter picks today as he had both Hakuho and Kaio in his line-up, leading me to beat him soundly. sure hope the results stand though (Laughing...)

Oh well, my default squad scored 6 points, and so would have done the squad I would have liked.

My opponent Hakase scored only 4 points (looks like they were meant for day 13, he had a different lineup the day before), so I can say I've been rather lucky, but on the other hand I also deserved the win. But at least I was lucky there is a default squad in this game. (Laughing...)

my default squad got me 8! and what was even sweeter I was up against my Sekitoto adversary - Krokonowaka

I might have to leave that default team droning for the rest of the basho!

Is there nothing they can do if you email your picks or are they just not ****** bothered?

They certainly dont do anything if you do send them.

Sometimes the people who run this game really **** me off.

To me it looks like the admin has technically no possibility to fix anything, to insert the picks, etc.

Because this is not the first time when the mess after problems with this game is not sorted out.

So I guess there is no source code or access to database for him. Even banzuke seems to be created by some algorithms.

But if it is true then what actually the admin can do for this game?

It's possible that the Sumo Game banzuke is made automatically. You don't make high jumps nor big falls. It takes ages to get out of Makushita, even with quite some good records. :-|

I don't think it's done automatically, but he's very insistent on the 1 win = 2 ranks thing, and minimum demotions for makekoshi. And thus you get banzuke movements such as

Ms20e 7-8 -> Ms20w

Ms30e 8-7 -> Ms20e

Ms32w 9-6 -> Ms21e

when there's a lot of open space which is a bit nuts, because it essentially reduces the game to "do you get KK or not" for many makushita players, and any win above 8 or below 7 is almost meaningless for your next ranking.

Maybe you're good records are just not good enough. :-|

There are plenty of players who perform well and when you have a few of them around you in the current Banzuke you will have difficulties to achieve more than a 8-7 or a 9-6 - even when your performance is above Makuuchi average and climbing the Banzuke is rather slow. I have compared my avg. points per basho with the records of Makushita, Juryo, Makuuchi and Sanyaku after each basho (statistics in SG are really great) and sometimes I was really frustrated to gain only a few ranks with a result that was significantly above Sanyaku avg. points.

But believe me, in the long run you will have success when you are constantly performing above average. Bad banzuke luck and bad Torikumi luck may be your companion three or four Bashos in a row. But then things suddenly turn. Looking at my own results I experienced this in 2006 when I gained not much ranks on the Banzuke with a KK, in 2007 a mere 9-6 was enough to give me 7 ranks... It took me two full years from Makushita 87 to Juryo despite two Jun Yushos, 6 double digits and only two Make koshi...

Kyushu 2005 E Makushita 87 12 - 3

Hatsu 2006 W Makushita 56 10 - 5

Haru 2006 E Makushita 48 12 - 3

Natsu 2006 W Makushita 36 5 - 10

Nagoya 2006 E Makushita 42 8 - 7

Aki 2006 W Makushita 41 9 - 6

Kyushu 2006 W Makushita 34 7 - 8

Hatsu 2007 E Makushita 35 8 - 7

Haru 2007 E Makushita 30 10 - 5

Natsu 2007 W Makushita 22 9 - 6

Nagoya 2007 W Makushita 15 12 - 3

Aki 2007 E Makushita 4 10 - 5

Kyushu 2007 W Juryo 11

Just checked your record and to be honest I do not understand why you complain. Your banzuke jumps after a 9-6 or 10-5 are rather above average.

Perhaps he's not criticizing his own situation, but the general tendency of Sumo Game to create banzukes whose dynamics are odd in comparison to those of real ozumo.

Exactly what I meant.

I'm sure aware that my own results aren't among the best. After all, I already had some MK.

But I meant that you don't make a high jump when having a 10-5 basho. Certainly not at the top of Makushita.

I guess it's easier when scoring 12-3 or better, but that's easier said than done.

But actually, I also don't mind too much that it goes slow. If I ever would reach Juryo, the joy will be much higher. :-|

Befitting my abysmal performance this basho, I emailed my picks in, and managed to lose 5-7. :-| :-|

Are you saying they counted your emailed picks?

You must be the only one, what do you have the rest of us dont.

Nagoya 2006 E Makushita 42 8 - 7

Aki 2006 W Makushita 41 9 - 6

Since that was the most intriguing one, I've grabbed Ms36-Ms46 from the Aki banzuke for illustration:

Hashira (Ms35e, kosho) Ms36 Qijiryu (Ms45w, 12-3)
Sanyiazuma (Ms29w, 4-11) Ms37 Kaihoyama (Ms28e, 3-12)
Chiyosifuji (Ms34w, 6-9) Ms38 Kaiomitsuki (Ms41e, 9-6)
Akisame (Ms33e, 5-10)	Ms39 Hironoumi (Ms47w, 12-3)
Meyeryu (Ms37w, 7-8) Ms40 Takami (Ms38w, kosho)
Zeokage (Ms39e, 7-8) Ms41 Ganzohnesushi (Ms42e, 8-7)
Shatomuto (Ms38e, 6-9) Ms42 Gunterao (Ms41w, kosho)
Damimonay (Ms48w, 10-5) Ms43 Mikawosatoii (Ms45e, 8-7)
Basashihime (Ms43e, 7-8) Ms44 Takanosushi (Ms44e, 7-8)
Kiwishiki (Ms31w, 0-0-7) Ms45 Berunohana (Ms42w, 5-10)
Gusoyama (Ms40w, 4-11) Ms46 Wakanotakawaka (Ms53e, 10-5)

Ouch, that's rather undynamic. I know there's only so much you can do sometimes, but there are several spots just in those 11 ranks that illustrate why 1 win = 2 ranks is rather crazy this far down on a banzuke. The biggest offense to my banzuke-making sensibilities is probably Wakanotakawaka at Ms46w...that has to be at least Ms44w or Ms44e. But of course, "1 win = 2 ranks" says that Ms42w 5-10 and Ms40w 4-11 are better than Ms53e 10-5, so the 5-10 and 4-11 guys get a minuscule demotion and the guy with the double-digit wins gets served with only a 6.5 rank move. Flabbergasting.

Edited to add:

There are plenty of players who perform well and when you have a few of them around you in the current Banzuke you will have difficulties to achieve more than a 8-7 or a 9-6 - even when your performance is above Makuuchi average and climbing the Banzuke is rather slow. Which is exactly why (in my opinion, anyway) the goal of a banzuke maker should be to "bubble up" the truly good players (such as yourself) as quickly as possible. The SG banzuke-making is pretty much the opposite of that, however.

Just out of curiosity, what would you expect to be the average promotions/demotions for the real banzuke in Makushita and below? For example a 7-0 would give you... 14 or 21 ranks up?
