JAB Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Since my addiction to Sumo has grown, especially since I watched the May Basho on Youtube, I need a fix for the upcoming tourney please!? Anyone got a link to the bouts? Thanks Jake ;-)
Fay Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 There is a link to the live stream at the top of this site and in Kintamiyama's fabulous toolbar. And you can find the bouts in the french forum here. You have to register first.
JAB Posted July 9, 2008 Author Posted July 9, 2008 Thanks Fay! I am not very techno-ledgable.....does the live stream link automatically or do I need to install something on my computer? Thanks Jake
Doitsuyama Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Thanks Fay! I am not very techno-ledgable.....does the live stream link automatically or do I need to install something on my computer? Thanks Jake Well, normally it should start automatically, if you have a Windows-PC. Just be aware that it usually starts at about the time of the last few juryo bouts, and by mid makuuchi the stream can be "full", meaning that the maximum number of possible connections is reached.

Oh really? I admit I do not watch stream regularly, but as far as I remember, it has never happened to me to be kicked out due to maximum number of connections, whatever time I tried to connect.

You are not kicked out but can't get in, which happens all the time when you are too late, although I have he impression it became better recently.

I would have said its normally full by the start of Makunouchi... Thats been my experience anyway. Best get in early to be sure JAB....
JAB Posted July 12, 2008 Author Posted July 12, 2008 Thanks for the help guys! Any other suggestions? No one on Youtube will be posting any?? Thanks Jake (Clapping wildly...)
ryafuji Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 It appears Info Sumo won't let you watch all the bouts for free any more... you have to make a donation before you can see the ozeki and yokozuna matches.
Doyobi Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 I had the same experience, this change kind of sneaked in and got me by surprise. No I either make a paypal account soon, or just call it quits and forget about sumo for a few years.
Takemi Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 I noticed that too. Thast funny because I was wondering when I started to watch todays bout at info-sumo, why put info-sumo logo on the video? It is not their video, in fact it is actually stolen. And then the paypal thing came up, thats like selling stolen stuff. I dont know what info-sumo are thinking about.. this will just add to the reason for the owners to take the vids away. Which is sad.
hidenohana Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Toyasuko RIP.... http://www.youtube.com/index?&session=...g==4x4uEwlV0g== :-(
Gusoyama Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Is the Info-Sumo donation a pay-per-day or pay-per-basho situation?
ryafuji Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Is the Info-Sumo donation a pay-per-day or pay-per-basho situation? Pay ber basho I believe, but as was noted above I feel a bit uneasy that they're effectively asking for payment for material that they obviously don't hold the copyright to. I'm sure they're only trying to cover their costs, but it still doesn't seem right to me.
Asashosakari Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 (edited) Curiously enough, just a few basho ago (in March, I think) the main complaint wasn't so much that all the video viewers were costing him money, but that they weren't contributing anything to the rest of the forum (duh, most probably don't speak much French) and were only doing hit&run visits in the video section. I didn't figure that going for-pay was gonna be the solution to that, but hey, whatever floats their boat. In any case, my moral standards aren't high enough to preclude me from paying. It's not my ass on the line, I figure. Edited July 13, 2008 by Asashosakari
BFlatMinor Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 There's no way I'll enter my credit card number there.
Asashosakari Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 (edited) There's no way I'll enter my credit card number there. It's done via Paypal, the recipient doesn't see your account/card data. Edited July 13, 2008 by Asashosakari
ilovesumo Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Is the Info-Sumo donation a pay-per-day or pay-per-basho situation? One guy told him to delete the old videos- yeah! Why not. Anyway, who needs that anymore. Ciao.
Randomitsuki Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 I can understand that info-sumo is annoyed about the lack of donations. If I understand it correctly, several hundred fans have watched the bouts, but less than 20 have made a donation this year. I guess it would have been better if the videos had been free, but had been interspersed with some video segments appealing to donate some money to the site. Maybe this would have made more people thinking about what incredible service they are taking for granted each and every basho. However, info-sumo has a penchant for sudden changes, and so be it. The biggest problem (already alluded to in this thread) is that the videos now went from "not really legal, but who cares" to "definitely illegal". I wouldn't be surprised if men in suits will be tipped off sooner rather than later.

Kintamayama Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 (edited) I thought the sumo community, regardless of the language spoken, race, or creed was a relatively close knit one, where everyone is everyone else's friend. With all due respect to info-sumo, and I have respect, I can think of a few people who contributed a wee bit more to our community and would never dream of asking for money. Doitsuyama, for example. His database is such an intricate and mind-boggling piece of work that I'm sure many would be willing to pay for access if that ever happens. There are many more fine examples like Jonosuke and Mado-san's rikishi talk (many come to this forum just to read that and don't contribute much else, eh??), Fay and John's pictures, etc.. etc.. Those that can contribute just do it. I'm pretty sure none of them ever dreamed of asking for money. Yes, I know it's time-consuming to upload these fine vids. It's also time-consuming to translate the online articles from Japanese on a daily basis for four years, believe me. Our community is about giving, and it seems to me (how naive) that most of us give with pleasure. I'm not angry with info-sumo, just disappointed, because we always had a great rapport with the French forum and I definitely did not see this coming. I personally will not pay for services rendered, unless we'll have a decent official feed one day. Others surely will, but that's their choice. Dommage. Edited July 13, 2008 by Kintamayama
JAB Posted July 13, 2008 Author Posted July 13, 2008 Thanks Takemi for the Youtube link!(nice avatar too) Hopefully each day is there from here on out. I am not a fan of giving my CC number to anyone, let alone the French (Neener, neener...) Seriously guys, with as much interest on this board, and really worldwide, we cannot figure out a way to view the main basho online for free??? Come on, someone has to have an idea that will work! Cheers Jake (Blowing up furiously...)

slt Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Well, if nothing else, this video situation has managed to get some long-time abstentees (such as myself...) back on here. The live stream has become impossible for me to watch now, because of my schedule... After Dale's goodbye, Info-Sumo was a saving grace. Thanks Takemi for the link, anyway, will have to try and catch what we can on youtube, I guess. Cheers to everyone I haven't spoken to in a while, anyway -
JAB Posted July 14, 2008 Author Posted July 14, 2008 Hello Slt! (Blowing up furiously...) We should all post something if we find it on Youtube. I don't normally peruse the site, but I need my fix (Neener, neener...) Thanks, Jake (Bart...)
