Randomitsuki Posted July 13, 2008 Author Posted July 13, 2008 Here is the scoreboard for Nagoya Basho: Wow, that's how I love those waves. Nine out of the top 10 players were using different picks. While Manekineko will try to stay in Juryo, her closest pursuers rely on quite different strategies, among them Gernobono's gambit of not picking at all (who knows, it might turn out to be a clever move). Gernobono Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 i forgot to pick one..... as the first day makushita is not on the run at the moment it might be possible to still pick a rikishi if so, i would pick hokutokuni.....
Jejima Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 I didn't forget to pick - I just left it until too late (Singing drunk...) Very sorry that I am not entered in any of the Surfing Waves this basho, but I will buy a new board, and come out even stronger in September :)
Randomitsuki Posted July 13, 2008 Author Posted July 13, 2008 i forgot to pick one.....as the first day makushita is not on the run at the moment it might be possible to still pick a rikishi if so, i would pick hokutokuni..... I'm sorry, but that's too late. I know that the top Makushita bouts hadn't started when you posted this, but I don't want to set too many precedents for late entries. I would not want the extra work to determine at what point in time a given bout was held, whether the stream was available at that time etc.. Banzuke Surfing definitely begins when the first Jonokuchi bout on shonichi has begun. The time between the deadline and the begin of Jonokuchi is a grey area where I usually take a late entry into regard (see sekihiryu's late entry), but I won't make any exceptions for later entries. If I have ever done this in the past, it was a mistake.

Randomitsuki Posted July 18, 2008 Author Posted July 18, 2008 Standings after day 6: Sorry, no time for estimated standings today. I have a good feeling that Manekineko will stay in Juryo. As it looks right now, Tosayutaka would have been an even better pick, but who would have known that in advance? Makushita is quite difficult this time, and half of all picks in that division went downhill so far. That's good news for Gernobono whose undesigned kyujo keeps him in second place. At the moment, Jakusotsu takes over third place in virtual standings. Rank Shikona Surfs Position Standing 1. Manekineko Aran J14e 4-2 2. Gernobono* DNP (1st) ms3w N/A 3. Randomitsuki Posted July 22, 2008 Author Posted July 22, 2008 Standings after day 10: If I remember correctly we had four forays into Juryo in the history of Banzuke Surfing. However, until now nobody managed to stay in the division. Subjectively I have the feeling as if J9 or J10 is the crucial spot. Once you are in that territory, it might be relatively easy to stay in Juryo or move up towards Makuuchi. However, nobody has managed to escape the bottleneck of low Juryo. This might change this basho with Manekineko cruising towards single-digit Juryo. Apart from her progress, little has changed in the last four days, i.e. most picks went 1-1 and the situation is as before. The notable exception near the top of the standings is Azumaryu whose Satoyama advanced from 2-1 to 4-1. That amounts to fourth place in virtual standings (behind Manekineko, Gernobono, and Jakusotsu). Rank Shikona Surfs Position Standing 1. Manekineko Aran J14e 7-3 2. Gernobono* DNP (1st) ms3w N/A 3. Randomitsuki Posted July 27, 2008 Author Posted July 27, 2008 Final standings and estimated positions on Aki Banzuke: Manekineko has entered single-digit Juryo. I think that provides excellent chances to survive in Juryo for good. Second place is way too close to tell. In a cointoss I decided to go with Zentoryu who henka'd himself from 2-3 to 4-3 in a nice turnaround. But it could as well be Azumaryu and his Makushita yusho winner Satoyama. Zentoryu Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Zentoryu who henka'd himself from 2-3 to 4-3 in a nice turnaround. Hey, I didn't do the henka'ing. I can't be held responsible for the quality of sumo displayed by my pick. :-)
