Thanks to Gusoyama, updated Superbanzuke files are now uploaded.

Natsu 2008 Superbanzuke:

The Natsu Superbanzuke was updated. For the second time in a row Norizo tops the banzuke in front of Doitsuyama.

Congratulations to veteran player Heikotoriki! (On the banzuke...) (Sign of approval...) He made his sanyaku debut three years ago, but after several ups and downs he has finally managed to become Ozeki for the very first time. Moreover, it's the first time that he has more than 5000 Superbanzuke points, a feat that is more and more difficult to accomplish with a dwindling number of players.

No promotions to or demotions from sanyaku.

Records for highest ranks or highest number of points in Makuuchi:

Choshu-yuki crossed 4000 points for the very first time. However, this was not yet enough to improve from her career-high rank of Maegashira 1.

Bafa has improved his career-high rank from M16 to M15 (also a new point record for him).

Bill from Taiwan becomes the 103rd player in history to reach Makuuchi. He propelled himself all the way up to M12, a really great start into Makuuchi. Bill had his first SB appearance back in Hatsu 2004, but until about one year ago he stayed in Makushita. He either started playing more games, or simply became much better, so it took him only four basho to rush through Juryo.

Along with shin-Makuuchi Bill we have two repromotions. Congratulations to Takanorappa and Hakajusakari.

The demotees are Itachi, Kaiowaka (only one basho after becoming shin-Makuuchi), and former Sekiwake Tamanaogijima.

Terarno missed Makuuchi promotion by only 20 points - if he had managed it, it would have been an extremely rare direct promotion from Makushita to Makuuchi! Only five players achieved this feat in the history of the Superbanzuke, and the last one was Konosato almost three years ago. However, being shin-Juryo is nothing to sneeze at. Other shin-Juryo are Bunijiman (who had a gorgeous Natsu Basho, so there's more in store on the next Superbanzuke), Kitakachiyama, and Konizan (hard to believe that this is his sekitori debut because he had already won a Green Mawashi).

Natsu Masters:

No less than five players scored more than 50 points and had a good chance to win the Natsu Masters Series of 2008. In the end it was Andoreasu who managed to win his first Green Mawashi. On the SB Website you can see a nice picture of Andoreasu already wearing the Green Mawashi! Andoreasu achieved three yusho (Tippspiel, ISP, Sumo Game), thereby dominating the daily gaming scene.

The sansho were equally distributed among the three strongest contestants who missed out on the Green Mawashi. Bunijiman gets his first shukun-sho for a yusho in RotoSumo and top 3 finishes in Chaingang, Ozumo Bingo Game, and GISP.

Zenjimoto receives his second gino-sho for balanced performance in both daily games (Tippspiel jun-yusho) and pre-basho games (Juryo Game yusho).

Mysko rounds out the sansho by getting his first kanto-sho. He finished among the top 10 in seven different games.

As for the 19 games themselves, it was already pointed out in another thread that long-time, high-profile gamers Golynohana and Asashosakari finally won their first yushos.

World Championships 2008:

Hey, maybe I should quit computing the Superbanzuke data, it seems to be beneficial for a gaming career. (Laughing...)

After Zenjimoto quit as SB Rijicho, he won his first game yusho (after an eternity). He proceeded to win his first Green Mawashi in Hatsu Basho, and after a great Natsu tournament now has a solid lead in the World Championships as well! New gaming phenomenon Fatakiyama, Andoreasu, Golynohana, and up-and-comer Bunijiman are currently battling for second place.

Superbanzuke-related Changes

I am planning to revamp the Superbanzuke pages sometime soon. There are still lots of mistakes (e.g. I just noticed that Taka's second identity as Kogaratsu has escaped me on the current pages), broken links, missing graphics etc. Moreover, some old files haven't been properly modified after the server change, as a consequence of which they aren't accessible at all. This will change at some time in the future.

Moreover, I plan to change the entry page, and enable easy (and correct) access to the games themselves, similar to Exil's nice wizardry in this Forum.

A future project I am thinking of will be to personalize pages (I haven't even talked to Gusoyama about that, so I do not know if it's technically feasible). However, the Doitsubase, the new Hoshitori pages, the new GTB pages, and Asashosakari's great work on Sekitori-Toto data have set some new standards, so maybe some day we have something similar for the Superbanzuke data (number of bashos on the Superbanzuke, photos, yushos, career high ranks, career high points, yearly performances, you name it).

Whoah, 6th in the Masters! Truly a basho of a lifetime, what with my best results prior to this being only 32nd, 38th and 42nd...

Thanks for all the updates! (Sign of approval...)

Where can one find the rankings for Chain Gang? Apparently, I'm 3rd in those rankings (?!?!?!), but have not been able to figure out where to see them or how they are figured.

Thanks for all the updates! (I am not worthy...)

Definitely a once in a lifetime basho for me as well. My Masters points for all previous basho combined is less than 35, and then to get over 50 in Natsu alone... don't think I'll be able to replicate that any time soon.

Thanks to everyone involved in running the Super Banzuke and all the participating games! (Showing respect...)

Hmmm out on day 1 for the last three basho I have a feeling I am not going to be in the top 42 much longer (I am not worthy...)

I think I should have received 7 more points, so that I may have actually won the Green Mawashi (2 for Oracle and 5 for UDH) !

Oh boy, it looks as if I really botched it big time last basho. A first glimpse at the data sheets shows me that Mysko might indeed be correct - he definitely is correct with regard to his score. The thing is that I have discovered several stupid mistakes in the current results already, so other players might also gain or lose some extra points. I will take a closer look at the Natsu results once I have the time (definitely not in the next two weeks, sorry). Seems that I shouldn't rush the scoring procedure...

A thousand gomen, and sorry for confusion and mayhem that this might have caused.

I will deeply reflect on my errors, and re-consider my approach towards quality assurance in the future... (Blushing...)

OK. It's now confirmed that Mysko is the actual winner of the Natsu Masters Series (Chased by the fans...) . Congratulations to him, but also my deepest apologies to Andoreasu who deemed himself to be the winner of the Green Mawashi due to my apparent inability to enter some simple numbers into a spreadsheet. I have also looked at a couple of prior Masters Series, and fortunately found out that in the past at least I did not make such obvious mistakes. There is always the problem of entering a number into the wrong cell (as happened to 5 points for Mysko that I handed to Misisko), but at least I should check in the future whether the total points for a game add up to 66 points...

Andoreasu receives the shukun-sho, Bunijiman now gets the kanto-sho, while Zenjimoto keeps the gino-sho for Natsu Basho.

I haven't finished the Masters file yet, and maybe I wait with sending it to Gusoyama until the Nagoya Superbanzuke is ready.
