Bealzbob Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Yogurt to be a real man to drink two at the same time. I count four. Two is Irish for four... ;-) Ahh the force is strong in this one (I am not worthy...)
Peterao Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 No. Do I really have to explain what I mean to someone of your intelligence?? Yes. (I am not worthy...) I know it's yogurt, but saying "Kotooushuu yogurts the yusho" would not have had any pseudo-humorous connotations. I understand that it probably was somewhat remotely cumbersomely humorous only to me and my close-knit family, but I always give it a try anyhow.. But it still doesn't rhyme.

Manekineko Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 On request, sour milk/yogurt chat moved to its own thread.
Sashohitowa Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 Is there anyone who can post here (or just give a link) to Kotooshu's interview during the prize-giving ceremony (in English, if possible)?
hidenohana Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 (edited) Is there anyone who can post here (or just give a link) to Kotooshu's interview during the prize-giving ceremony (in English, if possible)? Here's footage of the prize gving ceremony: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xC_tiH1LB4k...feature=related Ask Fay or Harry to translate this for you as an exercise! I think this is the translation of the interview immediately after the bout, but not the prize-giving ceremony though: http://paper.standartnews.com/en/article.p...p;article=23900 But look what I've found! (I dunno...) 114 good quality Kotooshu photos on a single website! JAB Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Congrats to him! Great fights all around! Cheers Jake (I am not worthy...)
That-Satsu-Guy Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 That's not a yogurt, THIS is a yogurt! My apologies to Paul Hogan. How much yogurt is in a years supply? 365kilograms. How is he going to eat it? As soup.
Doyobi Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Wow, do you mean tarator? Lovely, but 2 kg tarator a day implies a lot of garlic too :)
That-Satsu-Guy Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Sorry, that should be eat it with a spoon, not eat it as soup. My humble apologies.
Kintamayama Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Nice summary of his basho: http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/dy/sports/20080621TDY22309.htm
sekihiryu Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Kotooshu got 266 posts in his thread (this thread) last basho, this basho....well its amazing how fickle the winds are in the sumo world. 9-6 - business as usual, could have been 8-7 if Asa had been fit and still in game this basho. Interestingly I was criticised when I made that poll... But where's the most likely alternative? 11-12 wins, no yusho but respectable showing from an ozeki. I think history will record the Natsu Basho of 2008 a fluke.....
Andreas Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 It was not a fluke... he was the only current ozeki without a yusho and ozeki are supposed to yusho now and then (when the yokozuna are kyujo or have a bad basho). Depending on his health and length of ozeki tenure, he might as well get 2-3 career yusho.
HenryK Posted July 27, 2008 Author Posted July 27, 2008 I thought he looked pretty solid, better than the 9-6 record would suggest, and I surely expect more involvement in yusho races from him in future.

Depending on his health and length of ozeki tenure, he might as well get 2-3 career yusho. interesting word there "supposed" lets look at some recent Ozeki. it would appear that the Ozekis of this decade are weaker than the Ozekis of the 90's Musoyama had one yusho and that was before he was on ozeki Miyabiyama never yusho-ed Dejima has one yusho and that was pre- ozeki Kotomitsuki's yusho was long ago while at Maegashira. Of ozeki winners Takanonami got two yusho as on Ozeki, some have questioned the Futogayama factor in his wins but he still won. Chiyotaikai has 2 yusho as on Ozeki in 9 years. Tochiazuma had 3 Kaio is the best with 4 yusho at Ozeki
Andreas Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 (edited) Since 87,5% of all recent ozeki (who didnt become Yokozuna) had at least one Yusho during their career, the Kotooshu Yusho WAS to be expected. Miyabiyama is record-holder for youngest demotion, and he and Dejima are two of the weakest ozeki of all times (according to Doitsuyamas sumo rankings). I said Kotooshu MIGHT win one or two more Yusho, which is at least possible taking in consideration his youth. About the "supposed": it was referring to "ozeki" as to "ozeki in general", meaning that ozeki Yusho arent that rare, since they are most likely to win of the Yokozunas do not win. Currently we have 2 strong Yokozunas, but this situation wont last forever, especially if Asas health doesnt get better again. Edited July 27, 2008 by Andreas
Kotoseiya Yuichi Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Interestingly I was criticised when I made that poll...But where's the most likely alternative? 11-12 wins, no yusho but respectable showing from an ozeki. I simply wondered aloud why that option was missing. Turned out it wasn't the result that took shape, but given another chance, I'd still predict 11-12 to Kotooshu. Actually I predict 11-12 again to him come September.
Sashohitowa Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 (Jumping in ecstasy...) I am sure that when you were writing your post, you were expecting replies like this one: 9-6 - business as usual, could have been 8-7 if Asa had been fit and still in game this basho. "If Asa was fit" is a very broad speculation, , something like these ones: "If Chiyotaikai, Miyabiyama, Kisenosato, Tochinonada and Wakanosato were fit and/or in better shape, Kotooshu should have been 4-11" "If also Futeno, Goeido and Wakanoho" had more experience, he should have been 1-14" also "If Kotooshu was fit and able to do his own sumo, he should have been something like 13-2" "If Kotooshu was more stable mentally, he would have no problems with neither Asashoryu, nor Hakuho - like he did last basho" I think history will record the Natsu Basho of 2008 a fluke..... What exactly you mean by "a fluke"? "A title that was not backed by another one, or at leas a pretender's performance" - I will agree with you. But so many yushos would have been flukes then... Like Asashoryu's Haru win, for example..? "A title that he did not deserve, as his performance was not worthy, and he won only by coincidence" - I will totally disagree with you, as it was obviously not. "It is a fluke because he might never be able to repeat it again" - I wouldn't use the word "fluke" in this situation, but I would agree with you as a possibility. But in the previous posts was mentioned how many of the recent Ozeki were having only one (or not even one) yusho - are all these titles "flukes"?? But anyway, realizing that it might never happnen, I reserve my right to bring this topic to your attention, when he wins his second. Consider this post like mine "Kotooshu's road to 2 yusho update" (Applauding...)
