Asojima Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 (edited) Day 1 - Live stream up at at least 13:15 JST. Full audio and normal video. (Clapping wildly...) (Holiday feeling...) (Sign of approval...) 13:21 Getting a reduced picture size and very weak audio. 13:45 - Sound fixed. Looks like they are doing video adjustments. Edited May 25, 2008 by Asojima
Asashosakari Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 (edited) Looks like they've reduced the bitrate again, though. (Clapping wildly...) Now just 68 kbit/s...and it definitely shows. Edited May 12, 2008 by Asashosakari
Asojima Posted May 11, 2008 Author Posted May 11, 2008 Day 1 13:37 JST - Starting first Makushita match.
Sokkenaiyama Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 I hope they do something about it, though. It's far worse than last basho.
ilovesumo Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 (edited) is the camera man foolig us? Zooming out, swinging away just at Tachiai (Sign of approval...) But thanks. (Clapping wildly...) I saw Kyokushuho. :-) Sadly he lost. He is still injured- some painful neck strain. (Holiday feeling...) please recover soon... Edited May 11, 2008 by ilovesumo
Asojima Posted May 11, 2008 Author Posted May 11, 2008 And Kyokushuho fails in his Live Stream debut.
messi19 Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 Any chance of them increasing the bitrate for makuuchi at least (cause that's when the link to the stream appears on the kyokai site)..68 kbit/s is... well...

You see Dayubu facing Sakaiwaza and don't know which is which ?
Golynohana Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Anyone successful with the stream today? I am trying to connect for 30 minutes now but no success so far
Asojima Posted May 12, 2008 Author Posted May 12, 2008 Anyone successful with the stream today?I am trying to connect for 30 minutes now but no success so far Suspect they are back to the schedule where they come up for the last one or two Juryo matches. We shall see in about 20 minutes.

You see Dayubu facing Sakaiwaza and don't know which is which ? I wondered what was wrong. I had to watch the action in a very small box yesterday in order to get reasonable detail. ilovesumo Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 No Hoshihikari, No Kaiho. THANKS... it's not that those are the 2 guys I wanna see the most...(Welcome...) But at least they WON.
ilovesumo Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 With WMP I got only sound, no picture at all. With VLC a very bad picture, hacking, kinda like slow motion...
Jejima Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Day 2 - Up at 15:50 JST with last of Juryo. But again low quality, I think (Welcome...). But better than nothing :-)
Mark Buckton Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 I really think you'll see sumo moving towards PPV in the months / years ahead. It effectively is stateside now from what I understand. How this plays out in the various EU / other nations sumo fandom is centered......... perhaps a few letters to the local SKY providers might help. There IS sumo on SKY here on Japan - 2300 onwards IIRC. (may be payable channel - can't recall but I have it) It is also on NHK - standard and BS (both payable IIANM) so with NHK wielding so much influence, and having so much debt, perhaps they'd see this as a potential and viable income source and are winding down accordingly. I sometimes watch on my mobile phone (has TV) if out and about and there is talk of how to charge these users in Japan so anything is possible.
Asojima Posted May 13, 2008 Author Posted May 13, 2008 (edited) Day 3 - Up normal at 15:47 JST with last 5 matches of Juryo.. Edited May 13, 2008 by Asojima

ilovesumo Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Day 4 - Up at 15:40 JST with last 5 Juryo matches. Have you seen Hoshihikari? My stream started with Kaiho.

Asojima Posted May 15, 2008 Author Posted May 15, 2008 Day 5 - Up at least by 15:42 JST with the last 5 Juryo matches.
Asashosakari Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Just noticed that they quietly increased the bitrate to ~75k again...good to see.
messi19 Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 75 is what it had been up to this basho, right? Or were they changing the bit rate the last couple of basho too (without me noticing it) ?

I think it had been 75 for quite a while, though it was even higher in the past (80 before, and ~90 several years ago IIRC). At any rate, back down to 68 kbit today...sigh.
