what is with the singing in english?

i thought there was a rule that songs for eurovision had to be sung mainly in one of the country's official languages - but the russian, german and greek entries are all in english....

Edit:

The Icelandic 'Wiggle, Wiggle Dance' appears to be in English too - although i think they have cheated a bit, by just updating 'the hokey-cokey'.

They dropped that rule a few years ago after they got fed up with Ireland winning again and again. English is certainly more popular in pop music than Albanian.

i hope Ireland gets voted by millions and millions of people. Then the eurovision organizers will realize this is a total travesty and just stop doing this "competition" altogether.

IRELAND DOUZE POINTS !!

I was forced to watch this rubbish at my friends but when it became clear that the Russian song(I use the term broadly)was going to win,I left for fear that I might be physically sick when the result was announced.

If this was Sumo it would be pure yaocho.

I wrote this exactly two years ago, and it is getting worse every year..

'The Eurovision Song Contest voting is becoming increasingly outrageous. I guessed 90% of the top three votes of every country. Cyprus will always give Greece 12 points and vice versa. Same goes for Ukraine-Russia. Finland/Sweden/Denmark/Norway in a never-ending orgy of automatic point swapping. All parts of ex-Yugoslavia-ditto, goes without saying. Moldova-Romania. Germany-always 12 points for Turkey. Guess why.

It's a frigging farce. No one listens to the songs. And the announcer always says "And 12 points go to our lovely neighbor XXX!!". They don't even attempt to cover up the yaocho.

Makes me want to throw up.'

Add Belarus and Georgia to the Russians etc.. and we get a veritable frucht-saladen.

Barfy.

Only 10 this time!

I find the yearly outrage over crappy pop music very entertaining. Whiny headlines ("Why does Europe hate us?")

in the tabloids included. Well, Germany had a 100% yaocho ratio this time and still finished joint last ;-)

Our singer was the best (it doesn't happen a lot) but unfortunatly we don't have lovely neighbours.
