Doitsuyama Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 (edited) Wakakoyu won against Shunketsu in juryo to make sure of one more exchange. Daiyubu also is a certain juryo promotion as he won the yusho with his seventh win, beating young Fujimoto. Kotoyutaka and Kanbayashi finish a good basho with the fifth win, moving close to the promotion zone. Hoshikaze got the important fourth win, beating Nakanishi for it. Terashita and Shibuya are two more talents in lower makushita getting kachi-koshi today. Lead makushita Satoyama cushioned his free-fall with two wins after the 0-5 start, beating Takunishiki who probably loses most of the banzuke ground made with six consecutive 4-3 as he fiished 1-6 this basho. 17 years old Masunoyama from Chiganoura-beya won against Asanotosa and is the second rikishi born in Heisei to win a yusho after Wakaryoma last basho, and it's even a division higher in sandanme. He can thank Terukaze for the absence of a kettei-sen as the veteran beat low sandanme Dewahayate. Terukaze will face 17 years old Kotowatanabe in the kettei-sen for the jonidan yusho. The rikishi at 6-1 in jonidan with a win today are all young with Fujimori, Iitani, Shogo and Taiseizan who has his 16th birthday today. Fukao won the jonokuchi yusho decider against Chiyonishiki, beating the oft-injured Kokonoe-beya rikishi with hikiotoshi. ilovesumo Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Masunoyama....(sniff sniff) (I am not worthy...) (Applauding...) (Applauding...)
messi19 Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 (I am not worthy...) First ever yusho and a huge jump on the banzuke for Masunoyama! Possibly upper half of makushita. He'll miss out on becoming Chiganoura's heya-gashira, but as the youngest rikishi in makushita there's time for everything else yet. (Applauding...)

messi19 Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Note to self: Send his mother flowers, and proceed to stage four of plan to adopt a future yokozuna in order to live out latter years in sponging wealth. Just another future yokozuna who will never make it ... You get to watch a lot of lower division bouts so AFAIAC your opinion is well-respected, but I wouldn't be too sure about that:-)
messi19 Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 (edited) Lower division Yusho Interview + deciding bouts are now on youtube thanks to tosayuko. Daiyubu just ecaped defeat there, Masunoyama dominated his bout, Fukao looks even bigger than I thought and probably will have little trouble achieving a good record in jonidan. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpWZiqAKSNA Edited March 21, 2008 by messi19
Bealzbob Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 (edited) FUKAO (Showing off...) (Praying...) Congratulations. Low to mid Jd20's awaits. Masunoyama looked very impressive in his win. Powerful and forward moving. Incredible for a 17 year old. I think he'll fair better in makushita than Ryuden did. Edited March 21, 2008 by Bealzbob
messi19 Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 I agree with you! Powerful and forward-moving are the perfect words to describe Masunoyama's sumo (Showing off...) This was his 10th basho and now that he enters makushita he still has never lost by yorikiri or yoritaoshi and only once by oshidashi. I've been hard-pressed to find a rikishi with similar statistics after 10 career basho. As you say, very impressive for someone who only turned 17 not too long ago. (Praying...)
