Again, Doitsuyama hasn't posted yet today so I thought I'd put something up. Here is day 9 juryo:

E-J11 Kyokunankai 5-4 hatakikomi W-J13 Kirinowaka 5-4 ○

○ E-J14 Kimurayama 8-1 oshidashi W-J10 Ushiomaru 5-4

E-J10 Kitataiki 7-2 oshidashi W-J14 Sagatsukasa 6-3 ○

○ W-J11 Shunketsu 3-6 yorikiri W-J9 Shimotori 4-5

○ E-J9 Masatsukasa 5-4 shitatedashinage E-J12 Hokutokuni 3-6

○ W-J12 Tosayutaka 3-6 uwatenage W-J8 Kasuganishiki 5-4

E-J13 Katayama 2-7 tsukitaoshi W-J7 Toyozakura 4-5 ○

E-J8 Shirononami 4-5 hikiotoshi W-J4 Kitazakura 5-4 ○

E-J7 Tamawashi 3-6 sotogake W-J3 Hakuba 4-5 ○

○ E-J3 Kotokasuga 5-4 yorikiri W-J6 Hochiyama 1-8

E-J6 Chiyohakuho 4-5 oshidashi W-J2 Koryu 3-6 ○

E-J2 Hakurozan 5-4 yorikiri W-J5 Mokonami 4-5 ○

○ E-J5 Tamanoshima 7-2 oshidashi W-J1 Hoshihikari 3-6

E-J1 Tosanoumi 6-3 katasukashi E-J4 Tochinoshin 7-2 ○

Sagatsukasa 7-2 put on a good show in oshidashi'ing Kitataiki out to go to 6-3.

The smaller Shunketsu 3-6 put on a clinic in how to take out a bigger opponent, this time Shimotori who is now 4-5.

Masatsukasa 5-4 a nice shitatedashinage over Hokutokuni 3-6.

Gorilla boy Tosayutaka a desperate uwatenage for a needed win 3-6.

Toyozukara 4-5 a good tsukiotashi over Katayama 2-7.

Kitazakura 5-4 overpowered Shirononami 4-5 to his knees for the honest to goodness hikiotoshi win.

Hakuba 4-5 got a desperate sotogake on Tamawashi 3-6.

Kotokasuga 5-4 overpowered out by yorikiri Hochiyama 1-8.

Took a while but in full control throughout except for one almost fall on too much forward momentum, Koryu 3-6 beat Chiyohakuho 4-5 by oshidashi.

The aforementioned long bout after a tachiai henka hiki attempt by Hakurozan, finally ended by Mokonami via yorikiri.

Tamanoshima 7-2 an easy win over Hoshihikari, oshidashi.

Battle of the 6-2's won by Tochinoshin to go to 7-2 via katasukashi against Tosanoumi. Tosanoumi came out strong, pushing Tochinoshin near the brink but good edge defense kept him in the ring; Tosa lost his footing in the end giving Tochi the easy win.

Tomorrow:

E-ms2 Wakakoyu 3-2 W-J12 Tosayutaka 3-6

E-J11 Kyokunankai 5-4 E-J13 Katayama 2-7

Yes Tosayutaka's victory was very hard fought. But he's still in with a slim chance of KK if he can find his feet. With a 3-6 he will hopefully avoid the more winning rikishi for the remainder of the tourney (although Kimurayama might be inevitable).

The trickle-down of (edit oops, missed a K) Kotooshu's withdrawal means Tosayutaka gets to meet a makushita pull-up tomorrow.

He's already faced (and lost to) one this basho though ..... Sometimes it's better to face an MK-destined juryo rikishi than a promotion chasing makushita !! Anyhoo, I'll cross the fingers for him. Tochinoshin is coasting into makuuchi and I still think he will yusho. He has yet to face Kimurayama.

What was Hakurozan doing just after he lost against Mokonami ?

If looks could kill, both of them were dead now. (Chucking salt...)

Which he is not going to do - unless there is a kettei-sen involving the two - as they are both from Kasugano beya. (Chucking salt...)

Wakakoyu is 3-2, don't know much about him.

Tochninoshin probably should have lost today's match after Tosanoumi's very strong tachiai but he showed very strong defense and a good heart against a closely matched aite so I agree that good things should be coming for him. Would be good to see him in makuuchi in Tokyo in May.

Ahhh, didn't spot that. Good point well made :)
