HenryK Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 (edited) This is a new and fairly simple game inspired by a discussion in the current forum. Typically, 2-3 sanyaku ranked fighters (including Y, O) fail to make kk in each basho -- although there have been cases when only one made mk or even none. The question is: Which sanyaku-ranked rikishi will fail to make kk at Haru 2008? Just list the names of the rikishi that you believe will fall short (write "none" if you think all will make kk). The evaluation is simple -- one point for each correct pick, one point deduced for each incorrect pick, and one extra point is available if you get the number of rikishi with mk right (even if the names don't match). If a rikishi drops out with an injury and ends up with mk as a consequence, this counts just as well. Picks can be modified until the Saturday before the basho starts. I start this off -- here are my picks: Kaio Chiyotaikai Takekaze .... will end up mk at Haru 2008. Edited March 25, 2008 by HenryK
higginbotham Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 This game will likely end in a draw... (Sign of disapproval...) taikai takekaze
HenryK Posted February 29, 2008 Author Posted February 29, 2008 This game will likely end in a draw... :-) A tiebreaker could be the average rank of the nominated rikishi. The player who nominated higher-ranked rikishi gets the nod (as he made the arguably riskier bet). Once this game is played over several rounds, there should be more differentiation anyway. I'm also thinking of extending this down to the meatgrinder (M1-M3), but let's see first how it works like this. Cheers, H
Holleshoryu Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 i think so ... Kaio Chiyotaikai Kotoshogiku Takekaze lets see (Nodding yes...)
HenryK Posted March 7, 2008 Author Posted March 7, 2008 Any more takers? It's a simple game but could become quite interesting, especially if played over several bashos.
HenryK Posted March 24, 2008 Author Posted March 24, 2008 Kootooshu and Takekaze went MK, while no less than 6 sanyaku ranked fighters just edged out an 8-7. The winner of the first ever game of "who will bite the dust" with a perfect score of +3 is Washuyama. Four other players managed to get positive scores -- Sokkenkayama with a minimalist pick of Takekaze; Vikanohara, Profomisakari and Higginbotham because they got Takekze right, another rikishi wrong, but correctly guessed that 2 sanyaku would be MK.There are also 4 losers who ended up with negative scores. Here is the full ranking. Washuyama +3 Vikanohara +1 Profomisakari +1 Sokkenaiyama +1 Higginbotham +1 Gusoyama -1 Hidariashiyama -1 HenryK -1 Holleshoryu -2
Washuyama Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Thank You... I humbly accept this (First prize...) and promise to gambarize at Natsu. :-P
Jejima Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 Interesting game - I will play in May. (Shaking head...)
HenryK Posted April 3, 2008 Author Posted April 3, 2008 (edited) Interesting game - I will play in May. ;-) Very welcome. I think about extending it to include M1-M3 -- thoughts? Edited April 3, 2008 by HenryK
Vikanohara Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 This one won't be run again ? (Blushing...) A pity, as I quite liked it.
