Doitsuyama Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 (edited) Here it is at last, although a little bit late. Well, it's still there before the GISP results are published from Gunga as the day 15 is still missing. The banzuke was quite hard to make as the top players down to mid juryo had lots of kachi-koshi, no less than fifteen 11-4 or better! This made makuuchi very crowded while not many players volunteered to fill the huge gap from middle of juryo downwards as most makushita players were make-koshi. The new banzuke therefore has eight komusubi (all actually very deserved in their own right), making the maegashira ranks look better. As announced with the results already, Norizo is promoted to ozeki with a 13-2, 9-6, 9-6 record in the last three basho while Choshu-yuki is down to sekiwake and can regain the ozeki rank with a 10-5 or better - after day 14 she was a bit below that mark so the suspense is still there. Flohru is up to sekiwake east and is on an ozeki run with 10-5 and 11-4 - doesn't look too good right now though as he is struggling for kachi-koshi after day 14. The two top komusubi should get to sekiwake first, but Zenjimoto has a chance for ozeki promotion with a 13-2 yusho as he is only one behind the lead after day 14, so let's see how this turned out.
