Doitsuyama Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Both yokozuna won their first bout this year, both with uwatenage against opponents with a good de-ashi. The ozeki won as well with the exception of possibly still injured Chiyotaikai who gave away the first loss in the eleventh bout against Kisenosato. The two sekiwake from Isegahama-beya had split results with Aminishiki beating young Goeido and Ama losing control over Tochinonada. There were some surprises in mid makuuchi with favorites Baruto, Roho and Homasho losing. Shin-makuuchi Ichihara had a good debut with a convincing kotenage win over Kaiho. Mongolian Koryu only needs a kachi-koshi to reach makuuchi and he made the first step with a win against Kasuganishiki. Sakaizawa surely wants to join Ichihara in the top division and he had a quick win over Hakurozan today. It was a good day for Mongolians in juryo as Hoshihikari, Mokonami and Hakuba won as well. Only the Mongolian shin-juryo Tamawashi lost, to Hakuba's heya-mate Kirinowaka, also a shin-sekitori. There are even three more shin-juryo with Wakakoyu beating Tochinohana in a spirited bout, Georgian Tochinoshin showing good strength in a win over Satoyama, and Kimurayama losing to a good Kitataiki. messi19 Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Shimootori still possesses great ability to finish a bout off via yorikiri whenever he obtains hidari-uwate. Robocop was on the defensive end immediately. Lower makuuchi is really exciting this time. :-)
Mark Buckton Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Georgian Tochinoshin showing good strength in a win over Satoyama, Was fortunate to see asageiko on Sunday with Washuyama and Tochinoshin looked good - beating 03 quite a few times in the 20-30? mins we watched. With the arm - left or right similarly effective - inside and on the mawashi, he looked to be in charge a lot. Fingers crossed for a decent basho. BTW - 03 has an odd habit pre tachiai with his feet - 'cleans' the shikirisen but with one foot then sweeps forward over the line towards his foe. Never noticed that before on any other
Peterao Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Was Kotooshu's hatakikomi a henka ? No It was the result of a mono-ii though. THe gunbai originally went to Miyabiyama.
