Gusoyama Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 The results this basho were so wacky, I don't think I can make a proper banzuke. Of course, I will give it a shot, but if anyone wants to take a shot at banzukemaking for Salarycap Sumo, I'd be happy to listen to any suggestions. Having a komosubi with 0-15 and a ms2 with 15-0 has really led to hell in mid-low makuuchi. For any takers, I'd be glad to provide results in an excel spreadsheet.
Zeokage Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 (edited) Just in case anyone does have a go (I'm going to, but I suck at banzuke), who has kosho status? There are 3 people at ms20 (mabunkiyo, Akisame, Ruziklao), and Akisame isn't on the banzuke. ms40 is also a little confusing and there's a huge gap to ms50. I think part of the problem is the scoring, how the W/L records are made. They're almost too regular for each record, doesn't the real life sumo have more middling records than the extreme 13-15 wins/losses? Edited December 29, 2007 by Zeokage
Asashosakari Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 (edited) I think part of the problem is the scoring, how the W/L records are made. They're almost too regular for each record, doesn't the real life sumo have more middling records than the extreme 13-15 wins/losses? Yeah. The "problem" is that Salarycap's scores are pretty strongly driven by the points scored by the best-possible picks...sometimes there are only three or four of them (and a couple of those may be rarely selected, like Toyonoshima in January), but this time there were quite a lot of them with seven rikishi scoring 43+ points (Hakuho 84, Baruto 77, Chiyotaikai 62, Tokitenku 48, Ama 45, Dejima 45, Kotoshogiku 43) and I think they were all fairly popular. The best players probably had four or five of them, and the worst perhaps just one or even none, so the scoring spread is very wide this time. And apparently relatively many players fell into one of the extremes. FWIW, the "real" scoring distribution looks like this (1989-2007): W-L Maku Juryo 15-0 0.3% 0.1% 14-1 1.2% 0.2% 13-2 2.2% 0.6% 12-3 2.7% 2.0% 11-4 4.1% 3.9% 10-5 7.8% 8.0% 9-6 13.8% 16.9% 8-7 22.3% 23.6% 7-8 12.6% 14.3% 6-9 12.7% 14.9% 5-10 9.6% 8.0% 4-11 6.9% 3.9% 3-12 2.6% 2.0% 2-13 1.1% 1.0% 1-14 0.3% 0.5% 0-15 0.1% 0.1% Edit: I forgot to mention, these are based on completed basho only, i.e. without all 3-9-3 etc. results. Gusoyama Posted December 31, 2007 Author Posted December 31, 2007 The results were odd this time, unfortunately, I agree. As Doitsuyama said, there's a big tendency for scores to group in SCS when popular rikishi do well or poorly. As far as I know, there are no players with kosho status. And with regards to the ms40-50, the ms50 was a misprint, all new players start at the lowest current rank, in this case, ms40w.
Zeokage Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 Thanks for that Gusoyama, my only other query is to where Akisame should appear on the banzuke. Should I assume that they're a new entry and should be ms40w instead of ms20w? Also, thanks for those numbers Asashosakari. ^-^
Gusoyama Posted January 2, 2008 Author Posted January 2, 2008 Akisame was an error from last basho, where they disappeared due to a query error. ms20w is correct.
Zeokage Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 As Akisame's ms20w on the Aki banzuke, I assume they requested kosho status for that basho. If that's the case, then where should mabunkiyo be? They're listed as Ms20W on the Kyushu banzuke. Does everyone below just shift one place down?
Gusoyama Posted January 7, 2008 Author Posted January 7, 2008 I actually had both of them as ms20w, treat it kind of like a tsukidashi rank, outside of the banzuke, but at that level. There's officially no rush on this, as I am going to cancel SCS for this basho,(see other thread) and I'm going to give it a shot myself.
Zeokage Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I'm rubbish at banzuke, but here's what I came up with for what this banzuke could have been. Some huge holes at the bottom meant some went up with MKs. Randomitsuki Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 (edited) Randomitsuki M8 Takamueda I'd feel slightly annoyed to be demoted from Komusubi to M8 with a 14-1 record. :-) Edited January 10, 2008 by Randomitsuki

I'm demoted from M9 to M15 with a 13-2 record (In a state of confusion...) But the must imporant is : when will we be able to play? Edited January 10, 2008 by charliki

Oh, and I can't complain with my rank here.
