Bealzbob Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Who do you expect big things from in January's tournament ? Will Baruto continue his march? Or Goeido ? Will Homasho bounce back with big numbers or will Dejima nosedive from sanyaku? OK well I've given a glimpse into what I expect just there :) I do expect comfortable double figures from Baruto as he is still outside the joi-jin. I expect double figures from Ichihara too. I hope Roho has a nightmare (and his record is patchy at these heights) and I hope Miyabiyama can make an assault on the sanyaku positions. I don't like wishing people not to do well but I do actually admit to hoping Kotooshu fails to hold on to his ozeki rank as, frankly in my opinion, he doesn't deserve to hold on to it and it'll shake up the upper ranks which is never a bad thing. I think Dejima will struggle to hold on to komusubi but I want him to succeed. I'm looking forward to seeing Goeido perform at his new career high and he's technically joi-jin at rank number 15. He was one of the more impressive rikishi in Kyushu and a definite star of the future imo. Homasho should be looking at double figures from M7. I think Wakanoho will struggle a little this time around as his sumo is not developed enough. Having said that I think he'll be in and around the 7/8 win mark. Happy New Year to all :-O
messi19 Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Happy new year to you, Bealzbob! If healthy I expect strong, possible 10+ wins performances from Homasho, Toyohibiki and Tamanoshima. I fear Goeido and Dejima will just fall short while Kaiho and Yoshikaze may find themselves in juryo when Haru rolls on as they will really have their work cut out for them with a pretty solid cast of rikishi surrounding them on the banzuke.
ilovesumo Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 In the end of 2008 Kyokushuho will be Sekitori. Now in January I hope Koryu can make it. I am bad in expecting big moves...tooo many different factors...
higginbotham Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 (edited) a couple of unpretentious words>>> Baruto is on his limit if , only if, you think he is not a match for joi jin rikishi. Do you really believe it ? Roho, barring health issues, can do relatively decently from where he is, but no better than 8 wins. As for Tamanoshima, the very problem he has is nothing but his health, worse than Roho's as well as previsions; no foresightedness sense required here. To make matters worse, Tamanoshima doesn't have Roho's "tactics" to overcome physical weaknesses. Edited December 29, 2007 by higginbotham
kaiguma Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 Well, looking at my pre-banzuke oracle worksheet, and new news notwithstanding, I see: * Kotooshu holding on with 9 and no surprises * Ama pushing for 11 to set up for 12 in March * 1st 3 West Maegashira sinking hard (Tengu, Flobby, and Nada) * Roho barely maintaining with 8 (6 hataki and hiki) * Goeido maintaining with a solid 8 * Baruto and Asasekiryu both getting lucky and clawing for KE spot w/ 10 and 9 repsectively * Homasho pushing to M1 with 9 wins * Ichihara revised from 10 to 9. It is a very tough bottom on this barrel. * Yoshikaze is barely in with 7 * Tamanoshima pulls out his intestines to reach 8 * Tosanoumi flops out quite unceremoniously * Shimoootorii nearly stays in with 6, providing a boring Haru promotion slate >>> * Only Sakaizawa newly promoted and Hakurozan repromoted, each with 9 * Actually, Sakaizawa's debut should be exciting after all! * Kaiho may well be thrown to the lions, which would make room for Kasuganishiki as well Bear in mind, this is all pre-banzuke, pre-injury reports, pre-training reports etc. Now to work out all those details... B-) I should have another shot at Makuuchi promotion in Oracle this basho, so I must gambarize! :-O
Blue_Wolf Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 Kaoi kuijo? Asashoryu jun yusho with 11-12wins?
Bealzbob Posted December 29, 2007 Author Posted December 29, 2007 Baruto is on his limit if , only if, you think he is not a match for joi jin rikishi. Do you really believe it ? I don't believe he is at his limit at all. What I meant was the people he will face will not be a challenge. When he is in sanyaku he will be challenged far more and it will be more difficult to get double figures.

Yes, I understood, but Baruto's topics as a general rule give some material for discussion and it is good to hear it. (Sign of approval...)
HenryK Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 (edited) 10+ for: Asashoryu Hakuho Kotooshu if he is fit Ama Baruto Takamisakari Ichihara Baruto injury-free should make it to Sanyaku within two tournaments. Edited December 30, 2007 by HenryK
aderechelsea Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Daiyubu getting a surprise Yusho and becoming Onokuni's first sekitori rikishi. Hoshihikari pilling up another KK... Kaiho getting 10 wins and moving clear from the bottom. I hope Hoshihikari's rise in the banzuke will motivate him too. Hewouldn't want to be below his much younger heyamate. Being below Hokutoriki is bad enough... (In a state of confusion...)
