Kintamayama Posted December 4, 2007 Author Posted December 4, 2007 "Aw, Uncle Asa, please play soccer with us.. Please???"
Kintamayama Posted December 4, 2007 Author Posted December 4, 2007 (edited) In an unprecedented move, journalists were asked to buy tickets for the jungyo today, 10,000 yen per company. The cheapest normal seats cost 5000 yen. Early sales were poor, so the local promoters decided on this 10 days ago, probably knowing that more than a usual amount of journalists will be on hand to see the return of Asashouryuu. There was a subsequent uproar at the venue, and the journalists finally entered after a delay of an hour and a half. The venue can hold 2700 people, but only 1900 tickets were sold. This decision has nothing to with the Kyokai, as the jungyo are rented out to local promoters who decide these things. Edited December 12, 2007 by Kintamayama
Kintamayama Posted December 4, 2007 Author Posted December 4, 2007 3rd day. Asa had 14 bouts, all against Kakuryuu, won them all. Tsuriotoshi, Yaguranage, etc.. "Well, it's tasty.. It's like I want to eat it.. that's how much I love it..", he said when asked about his feeling on the dohyo. He is having a bit of a problem with his right ankle which is taped firmly. " It will be cured.. If I get on the dohyo I'll get used to it..", he said. "This is the way to make a comeback.. I couldn't do the thing I like to do the most.. It's been a while since I participated in a jungyo and it felt good", he added. He was seen smiling and waving at fans who shouted encouraging words at him. "The fans have been very nice to me and have received me with applause, which is great.", he concluded. His plans are to return to Tokyo, rest a few days, and start training at Takasago beya.

kaiguma Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 3rd day. Asa had 14 bouts, all against Kakuryuu, won them all. Yesssssss, perfect training for my boy :-D Looks like Asa is making a good show again and everybody is happy, he really is a clever guy. Not only is Asashoryu clever, but we might wonder if the NSK conducts better business and PR than we think. Now jungyo footage is being shown every night on the main news broadcasts (or so it seems) so they have milked an ugly tragedy and gained tons of new exposure on the flip side. Now jungyo news has made it past the sports section of the paper and onto the screen. Whether they intended it or not, seems like the positives are outweighing the negatives.,,
Kintamayama Posted December 5, 2007 Author Posted December 5, 2007 Injured Takamisakari has been participating in the jungyo. No keiko, but lending of chest to young rikishi and doing the torikumi afternoon matches. "As long as the fans are happy, it's great. When I get back to Tokyo I'll go to a hospital and rest my body. I'd be happy if I could start keiko with Sekitori when the banzuke is announced (December 20th)..", he said.
Kintamayama Posted December 5, 2007 Author Posted December 5, 2007 Yesterday it was Hakuhou's turn to win by yorikiri. In any case, there were three days of winter jungyo this year. With all the publicity, there has been a soar in interest, and there will be at least 20 days of jungyo next year, say people in the know. Phone calls are coming in from all over the place asking to save a spot for their city or town for next year. A truly unexpected turn of events from what started off as a big problem.
