madorosumaru Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 Hakuho: (Winning second consecutive yusho despite being unceremoniously dumped by Kotomitsuki) I am happy, but . . .. Well, I do lose sometimes. I would like to try for three straight [yusho next basho]. Asashoryu-zeki will be back for Hatsu Basho, so I am looking forward to a good bout with him. More Hakuho: (Did you let down after Chiyotaikai's kyujo) I suppose it was there somewhere. [Despite the yusho] the outcome doesn't leave me with a good feeling. Kumagatani Oyakata: (On his deshi's lackluster performance) His sumo today was half-arsed. I guess when he found out about Chiyotaikai's kyujo, all the intensity dissipated. In any case, that kid sure is blessed with good fortune. Kitanoumi Rijicho: (Hakuho is first yokozuna to win yusho with 12-3 record since Musashimaru eight years ago) I really wanted him to win on senshuraku. Perhaps, he relaxed too much when the yusho was decided prior to his bout. Winning or losing today puts a totally different value on the yusho. Kokonoe Oyakata: (Speaking his mind as usual) There is a big difference between winning and having a parade and [yusho] despite getting flung across the dohyo. Well, I suppose there are times like this. Numero Uno (Asashoryu) will be back next basho, so he better get his act together more so than now. Chiyotaikai: (Appearing at the senshuraku party with his arm in a sling) If I get on the dohyo unable to do my sumo, it would be an insult to both Kaio and the fans. I am more upset [about the kyujo] than anyone else. More Taikai: (Planning to go on winter tour after some rest) I want to get into proper condition so that I can aim for yusho again next year. Kotomitsuki: (Post-basho gallstone surgery for the ozeki) I was concerned I might end this tournament on a losing streak, but I was able to finish the final bout of the year in fine fashion. I was promoted to ozeki this year. It was the finest of all years. Kaio: (Apparently, no crow dinner for certain SF member) I am sorry to cause concern to all of you [with intai rumors]. I haven't given up [on my sumo] yet. I am going to prepare myself physically for next basho and perform better than I did in Kyushu. Yes, I am going to continue with my career [and will participate in the Winter Jungyo]. Ama: (Not satisfied with himself despite another Shukun-Sho) [Winning] double digits was my goal, but I had chances for more wins. More Ama: (As for ozeki-tori aspirations) I just need to gambarize some more. I want to do my sumo more thoroughly. Kotoshogiku: (Pleased with his second Gino-Sho) Winning against Hakuho on shonich was really big. I was able [throughout the basho] to do tachi-ai at my pace and timing. Any award they give me is welcome. I won today so I am doubly happy. Sakaizawa: (Defeating Ichihara for the yuryo championship) I am sincerely happy. I was able to get through a lot of adversity this basho. At the beginning, I was not in good form, but I kept focusing on my sumo and that turned out well. Ichihara: (Possible makuuchi promotion after only one basho in juryo) Things went better than I expected. I was able to do sumo in my flow this basho. I had a hard time [getting promoted to juryo] so a [quick promotion to makuuchi] may be God's way of evening it for me. Kyokushuho: (Capturing jonidan yusho after a three-way playoff) I was able to attack forward this basho. I have great confidence when I get into migi-yotsu stance. My role models are Hakuho-zeki and Kyokutenho-zeki. I would like to become a sekitori as soon as possible. Yakigaya: (Tears gushing as KK means probable sekitorihood after eight long years) I've just missed [juryo promotion] twice before so I am overjoyed. I am going to keep on gambarizing. Kirinowaka: (Yakigaya contemporary may also have qualified for juryo on a gyoji sashi-chigae) My feeling was that all I could do is to give it all I have. Now, I only have to wait for the decision [of the banzuke committee]. Buyuzan: (Retiring to assume Onaruto toshiyoriship) I just can't do my oshi sumo anymore. I don't think I have left anything undone. Kyokutenzan: (Pioneer Mongolian rikishi will retire and settle in Germany with his new wife) At first, everything was difficult, but now I am grateful to sumo. I am really pleased that fellow Mongolians that followed us here have become strong and two of them have even become yokozuna. Dewanofuji: (Former juryo retires at age 30) Right now, I feel like I got a load off my back. I made it to juryo. I think I did all that I could do. Kitanoumi Rijicho: (Upon the termination of Asashoryu's suspension and kinshin period) I would like him to reflect deeply on the errors of his ways, get himself back into proper physical condition and endeavor towards improving himself. Quote of the Day Encore Rijicho: (On the effect of Ryu's suspension on the honbasho) If he were doing sumo now, I think the outcome of yusho would have been different. Bart Sez Baruto: (Rewarded with Kanto-Sho for an excellent basho) I didn't think I would win this many. I was glad I was part of the yusho race. I am truly happy. This is great. Just awesome!
ilovesumo Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 Thank you very much. I hope Kaio retires at latest after the Jungyou. To take part there is my personal reason for him still going on, but please please, no Basho anymore. Over and out.
Mikiro Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 Thank you tons for all your effort Madorosumaru in collecting these quotes from your sources as I would never know about them without you and they add greatly to enjoyment of the sumo forum. Personally I do not want to see Kaio retire and any quotes you can glean from him are muchly appreciated.
Asojima Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 Personally I do not want to see Kaio retire and any quotes you can glean from him are muchly appreciated. Kaio is like a grand and glorious sea bass. It is admired and appreciated as long as it is viable, but it eventually starts to decompose and turn fetid. Kyushu was his turning point.

madorosumaru Posted November 26, 2007 Author Posted November 26, 2007 Kyokutenzan Batmunhin Enkhbat is married with Mongolian woman Kh. Od who study/ live in Germany. As I understood from his interview B. Enkhbat is proud to be sumo pioneer of Mongols/ happy about his life in sumo and ready to start new life. as I heard or read, Kyokutenzan is quite respectful figure among Mongolian sumo wrestlers . Where he is going to settle in Germany is not clear yet. When is he going to quit sumo? Kyokutenzan officially announced his retirement on senshuraku. Along with Kyokushuzan and Kyokutenho, he was one of the original six Mongolians to join sumo in 1992. There is the famous story that soon after joining, five of them ran away from the heya to the Mongolian Embassy. Tenzan was the only one who remained at the heya. He was the one that adapted the best and quickest to the Japanese and sumo ways. By the time of the influx of Mongolian rikishi, Shu and Tenho were already sekitori and difficult to approach by the youngsters. Tenzan served as their mentor in every way. He was an instructor at the sumo school and troubleshot for them whenever they needed assistance. He was and is indeed trusted and respected by the Mongolian rikishi that followed him.
Blue_Wolf Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 In short words as i can say thank you very much Kyokutenzan. Without you there would not been any Kyukushuzan, Kyokutenho not even great Asashoryu or Hakuho. You were the bridge that they all crossed.

Kintamayama Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 In short words as i can say thank you very much Kyokutenzan. Without you there would not been any Kyukushuzan, Kyokutenho not even great Asashoryu or Hakuho. You were the bridge that they all crossed. Kyokutenzan will be moving to Berlin and running a house -cleaning company. It was thought that he would remain with Ooshima beya after he retires and be the eventual Ooshima Oyakata's (Kyokutenhou) helper. "I really wanted to train young rikishi, but all the wakaimonogashira and sewanin posts are taken for at least 10 years and I can't wait that long.." was his official excuse. The truth seems to lie somewhere else. He was married last July to a half Mongolian/half German movie producer who lives in Berlin. The Asashouryuu Yaocho allegation scandal didn't do him good either-he was said to have been the go-between in all the shady deals. That surely didn't get him motivated to remain in the Kakkai. Still he is part of the trial against the Gendai for naming him in this affair. "I'm deeply in debt to the Sumo world for what it has done for me. I will fly in from Berlin any time I'm asked to to testify at the trial!!", he declared. But his leaving at this time is a big blow for the Kyokai's case and image-he is a central figure in the trial and if he's bailing out now, it does not look good. His danpatsushiki, a rare thing for a Makushita rikishi, will be held on December 16th at the KKan banquet hall.
