aderechelsea Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 was Chiyohakuho trying to use ipponzoei as a last resort against Iwakiyama ? hilarious !!!! in Juryo i liked the Koryu-Satoyama bout the most. Lively one.
Asojima Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Day 6 - Looked like Ichihara was planning on doing an Utchari against Mokonami. Didn't even come close to pulling it off.
Washuyama Posted November 16, 2007 Author Posted November 16, 2007 No zensho for Baruto!!!! (I am not worthy...)
aderechelsea Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 someone tell Tamanoshima that if your opponent has his head buried in your chest and you try to pull ... you have a 90% probability of losing the bout ... nice fight overall ...
Jakusotsu Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Great how Tochiozan punished Hokutoriki for his sloppy tachiai - well done! ;-) Hoku looked like he wanted to complain afterwards but eventually realized how silly that would be. :-) Totally useless observation: Tamanoshima's knee bandage came off after the tachiai.
Bealzbob Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Here's one. Has anyone else noticed how Toyonoshima's bouts rarely end quickly ? They usually end up with a period of stalemate and inactivity in the centre of the dohyo. I don't have stats or timings to prove my point but I have just started noticing that he ends up in an inordinate amount of longer bouts than anyone else.
Jakusotsu Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Apart from the original Mr.Minute, Kotonowaka, I got the same impression from Asasekiryu and Tokitenku. A match between those two is usually good for a coffee break.
Bealzbob Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 I haven't noticed that one, but it doesn't seem to matter who Toyo is fighting ...
Jakusotsu Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 No, I didn't mean they have to fight each other for long bouts - any opponent will do. Although Tokitenku is usually quite quick when he loses. ;-)
Asashosakari Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Daishodai used to be the Juryo-Kotonowaka in his 12-basho or so stint, with usually at least two or three longish (let's say, >45 seconds) bouts each basho. And yeah, I've also had Asasekiryu pegged as the new Kotonowaka, but Toyonoshima has been making inroads of late...
aderechelsea Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 Toyonoshima and Asasekiryu are the definite leaders in this category this period. I miss Kotonowaka though and my bathroom breaks after the morning coffee ... (Blushing...) hehehe
Asashosakari Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 Incidentally, today's torikumi reminded me that Futeno has also had a number of fairly long bouts. Though maybe those were all against Asasekiryu. (Blushing...)
aderechelsea Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 (edited) --> Dairaido must be really injured ... today he just collapsed even though he looked in charge of the fight. Pitty .... i like this guy ... he is like a "rounder Takekaze" (Holiday feeling...) --> Sagatsukasa is not Juryo material at this point. His wins are not convincing and his loses are emphatic. Today against Ichihara he was outmuscled/outclassed easily Edited November 18, 2007 by aderechelsea
Asashosakari Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Time to start a Jumonji intai watch? Down to 1-7 now and pretty much has his back to the wall already...
aderechelsea Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 (edited) and he looked bad too ... that "timbeeeeer !!!!" imitation today was not good for any possible injury he might be carrying. . . . i really need to see a replay of the Satoyama-Kitataiki bout .... what the hell was that? (Holiday feeling...) edit: just noticed that Daiyubu faced Raiko for the 3rd time in his career and all these times were at a Nakabi ... interesting (or not?) ... anyway .... nice win and 1 step closer to a valuable KK ... :-) Edited November 18, 2007 by aderechelsea
aderechelsea Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Kakizoe forgot to take his money ... hehe Today was another display of poor sumo from Wakanoho. Pulling down a guy who has his head and hands on your chest .... really wise ... (Holiday feeling...)
Asojima Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 i really need to see a replay of the Satoyama-Kitataiki bout .... what the hell was that? (Holiday feeling...) Looked like an attempted tsutaezori to me. It was a lot of work for a credited hatakikomi.
Asashosakari Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 i really need to see a replay of the Satoyama-Kitataiki bout .... what the hell was that? (Holiday feeling...) Kimarite announcement seemed to take a while longer than usual, too...I was expecting whoknowswhat, and then it's just hatakikomi, sheesh. :-)
sekihiryu Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 17th lowest scoring day ever in Sumo Game: average score was 4.4ish. I won with a score of 4. Brutal day today for games - harder to pick than a broken nose!
Asojima Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 i really need to see a replay of the Satoyama-Kitataiki bout .... what the hell was that? :-O Looked like an attempted tsutaezori to me. It was a lot of work for a credited hatakikomi. He did it again on day 10 against Tochinohana... Took the gyojis ten minutes and several phone calls to decide it was a ???Tottari ???.

yamaneko Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Wow, some of the baruto brute strength of old was on display today, overpowering wakanosato despite giving up morozashi grip.
Jakusotsu Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 (edited) ...and not the first Tsutaezori by Satoyama! I just recently dug up this gem to spice up my Bench Sumo comments for Nakabi. Edited November 20, 2007 by Jakusotsu
yamaneko Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Right before the wakanoho bout started today, i was just about to post, "watch wakanoho try a henka and get thrown into the 3rd row by toyohibiki." But before i could type that, the bout was about to start, and sure enough just that happened. I hope that wakanoho now has learned his lesson after probably one of the more embarrasing defeats in his career. Today was even more embarrasing than his utchari losses, IMO.
