Hakaso Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Hi all This is my first post to the Sumo Forum, and I am afraid it
Kotonosato Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 The same thing happened to me. Apparently Joe Klemmer's server was rejecting certain email addresses. If you write to him directly maybe he can do something to sign you back up again. As for me, going without the SML for a whole basho was enough to wean me from it forever. The format is different here, but you can get all the info you need right here. I doubt I will ever go back to the SML at this point.
Asashosakari Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 I was wondering the same thing, actually. I unsub'ed two months ago, but was still checking in now and then via the webtrek.com web interface. That server stopped working sometime during the basho (around the middle weekend, IIRC, give or take a few days)...has the SML itself been up and running in the meantime, or is it totally AWOL?

I am still getting mail on it as of this afternoon, but I am really wondering why I bother. Will give it one more basho, and then probably drop it.
ilovesumo Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 I havn't even noticed.... (Jumping in ecstasy...)
Asojima Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 But anyway, does anyone know if the Sumo Mailing List is up and running again. I haven
Yubiquitoyama Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 I have it registered to two mail adresses, and it stopped coming to one of them, but continued to the other. Something is apparently amiss, but I have no idea what...
Jonosuke Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 Many news items I have been cross posting to SML but some have gone totally astray. I asked Joe Kle but he only told me he was aware of it and said something about the server gets denial of service one time or another. Actually more and more I find less out of SML and I am still there only becauase I have a few good friends who don't want to experience the life in here. I probably think if things remain as they are, I may just drop it soon.

No mails to a GMX.NET address since September 16th and mails sent to the SML returning as undeliverable. Now the cold turkey is over and I do not miss it anymore. I would unsubscribe, but www.webtrek.com is unreachable too.

Gernobono Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 i get messages on my gmail account but not on my isp-account until some minutes ago when i received thist very strange message ############################################### Your membership in the mailing list Sumo has been disabled due to excessive bounces The last bounce received from you was dated 30-Sep-2007. Happy Sumo philafuji Hoping not to prolong this thread to the detriment of those who don't care...but for those who do: Phil, I did NOT get your test message to the SML but I DID get the one you just sent about Barbara's sumo news. Since I am one who thought they had been receiving all the posts to SML, this tells me there are some that I probably have not received after all (using only one server, BTW). So I think the list server has yet to solve whatever their problem is. I hope they fix it. Personally, I use both SML and SF, and enjoy both. I look at each as just another way to get info, and since there are some who - for their own reasons - only use one, you miss out on their input. The format of the SML does have one appeal for me...since the first thing I do after logging on is check my e-mail - and my message rules put all the SML stuff in a separate folder - it doesn't clog my inbox and I can flow through all of it right away if I want, or choose to come back later (yes I'm lazy - now confirmed). I think the things that bug some people (flaming, inane stuff, etc.) are about equal on both ...I can delete on the other side as easy as I can ignore over here, it's all the same. My 20 yen...
sashimaru Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 I have received the same message like Gernobono. I can't reach the webtrek.com domain. Neither with http nor with email. I have send a message to Joe's gmail-Account last week, but no response. I hope he is allright.

Shomishuu, Thank you for the response. I try to learn as much about sumo regardless of who the source is. Like you I use the SML and the FORUM. Happy Sumo philafuji
ilovesumo Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 Checked. Havn't noticed it cause, no problem at all here. Latest mails from today.
Senpai Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 Same problem here. Haven't got any mail since 8th october and also got that mail Gernobono mentioned. tried then to connect to webtrek but serves is gone. So hopefully somebody will know how to fix the problem .. otherwise I have to announce SML's TOD.
Hakaso Posted October 12, 2007 Author Posted October 12, 2007 I am in again. Yesterday I received a couple of posts, and same today. I have really enjoyed the SML during the last, maybe, 10 years, so I am happy to be back. Also I am happy to be a new member of the Sumo Forum. I
Hakaso Posted October 14, 2007 Author Posted October 14, 2007 Well, it only lasted for a couple of days. No posts for the last 2 days.
Asojima Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 Joe reports that the SML is alive and well again. There was a server problem that was short circuiting those in Europe and Asia. It has hopefully been fixed.
Millwood Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Joe Klemmer has asked someone to post that he has, he hopes, fixed the sumo mailing list problems. So posted.
Asashosakari Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 I'm not trying to be snarky here, but I'm stuck pondering which is more surreal - the above being your first post after three years of apparent lurkerdom, or Joe's request even though he's got an account of his own that he last used only two days ago... Seriously though, thanks for the heads-up. :-)
Hakaso Posted October 18, 2007 Author Posted October 18, 2007 The SML worked for me a couple of days, but now it is gone again. Still hope for the SML to come back. Also I am very happy for this Forum wich has a lot of news and good topics.
