Does anyone have any info on the charity sumo tournament that is going to held Sat 6 Oct? I assume you will be able to buy tickets the actual day of the tourney, or would it be a pre-order only thing??? If any of you guys have been to these in years past and could share some info, it would be greatly appreciated.

Actually that's where I saw it first... Just wanted to try and find a little more info before I spent two hours on the train only to find out it's sold out... (In a state of confusion...)

Guess what?? I spent two hours on the train only to see a big "Sold Out" sign on the KK ticket window... :-O Oh well, I spent about 4 hours "rikishi spotting..." It was enjoyable in its own right. Except for the Asahi TV crew trying to interview every Makuuchi rikishi... I'm assuming over the Tokitsukaze issue.

On another note, I thought I read on some thread rikishi don't usually wear yukata with their own name on it.. supposed to be in bad taste or something. Today Wakanoho had his own shikona emblazoned all over himself.

The tourney was broadcast on TV Tokyo later in the day. (I'm assuming we're talking about the same one-day event.)

Hakuho won. Ama got the jun-yusho.

I didn't see the whole show, but there were a couple of features that were kind of interesting. In the hanamichi they asked a few rikishi to blow into a machine to test their lung capacity. Kotooshu pushed the device to its maximum reading: 7000cc! Takamisakari, on the other hand, logged 2700cc and complained that the mouthpiece didn't fit his mouth properly.

They also handed a few rikishi a hand-strength measuring device. Basically you squeeze it and it tells you how strong your grip is. Of the few I saw, Hakurozan was the strongest, followed by Hakuho. Kotomitsuki got caught cheating. He turned the dial up about 10 or 15 kg before even starting.

Upon further review it was just his obi that had his name on it...

Actually many of them wear the one with their own shikona. I've seen Kaio, Wakanosato, Tosanoumi, Tochinonada, Tochiozan all wearing with their shikona last basho.

Incidentally Wakanoho is known to be among the most proficient Japanese speakers among all currently active rikishi. He is certainly the one who mastered the language quickest.

Hearing him speak in interviews, if I had not known to be him, I cannot tell if he is native or not. His pronounciatiion is that perfect.
