nirumaruyama Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 If Baruto was to be promoted to Makuuchi for Kyushu is there a possibility he could refuse by saying he needs another tournament in Juryu to get his fitness back? Is there a precedent?
Jejima Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 If Baruto was to be promoted to Makuuchi for Kyushu is there a possibility he could refuse by saying he needs another tournament in Juryu to get his fitness back? Is there a precedent? No, to the first, and I suspect no to the second question. The new banzuke is being made at this time. Once made (and kept secret), it is then handed to the calligraphy expert gyoji who then writes it up (this takes a few days). It is kept locked away, until it is time to print up the copies. Then two weeks before the new basho, the banzuke is released. It would be too late to recall all the printed banzukes, and to ask the gyoji to rewrite etc.

Is there a precedent? No precedent, no chance. The banzuke is the law, and you cannot escape it. Of course, Baruto could request kyujo, and be in Juryo again for Hatsu Basho...
ilovesumo Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 (edited) In lower Makuuchi he can do his fix and out Sumo as well. Edited September 24, 2007 by ilovesumo
yamaneko Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 he didnt the last time though. Also, lower makuuchi is going to be full of big powerful guys this time around: Roho, kokkai, wakanoho, and more
Kuroyama Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 he didnt the last time though. Also, lower makuuchi is going to be full of big powerful guys this time around: Roho, kokkai, wakanoho, and more Roho - biggest risk is straining a thigh after tachi-ai trying to check forward momentum following the henka Kokkai - Make-koshi at M12. Does shaving deprive him of his strength? He frankly doesn't look like much of a threat to someone like Baruto at this point, even if he was injured. Wakanoho - Well, OK. (Whatever above, it is funny...)
yamaneko Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 but arent the guys he is in danger of getting injured, the ones that actually are big and semi brusing? Like the last two injuries he got was back pedaling against tosanoumi and miyabiyama. I think a 2 month rested kokkai and roho can generate similar power to those two. And if you watched the wakanoho match last, it almost looked like baruto got injured again the way he was back pedaling, and wakanoho pushed him out.
Sasanishiki Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Let us not forget that Baruto has another 6 weeks to gain fitness, and there is probably nothing like getting match fitness by actually having matches. Now, rehabilitating or "fixing" his injury is another matter, and one that I fear can only be rectified with surgery. Yes, going against big bodies in lower Makunouchi may aggravate the condition, but is it any different than competing in juryo and doing keiko? (I mean in terms of re-injuring himself)

(I mean in terms of re-injuring himself) ...except that if he does well in Juryo there is no chance he'll face Sanyaku... As we saw just a few days ago with Goeido, if you do well in Makuuchi, you get to see Yokozuna and Ozeki on the other side of the dohyo from you... Not good for recuperating. A healthy Baruto could hold his own, but that's sumo...
