madorosumaru Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Yokozuna Hakuho will be returning home to Mongolia after Aki Basho. On September 28, a Yokozuna Promotion Party will be held with an anticipated guest list of 500 people including President Nambaryn Enkhbayar. At the party, Hakuho will perform the Shiranui-style dohyo-iri. As for the sword carrier and the dew sweeper, his heya-mate Ryuo will perform one function and the other will be carried out by Kyokutenho, who will also be back in Mongolia at that time. Oshima Oyakata is okay with that: "Hey, we're all part of the Tatsunami Ichimon, so I have no objections." Hakuho will be bringing back several of his tsukebito so there will be no problem with the yokozuna tying. A member of NSK PR Department mentioned that the schedule of the tate-gyoji and yobidashi may have to be re-arranged, but the Kyokai has no problem with Hakuho doing the dohyo-iri on a private basis. Kumagatani Oyakata, Hakuho's shisho, said, "The Mongolian people should be very pleased with all this." Hakuho holding part of the bundle he is going to spend on his party. "Ya gotta spend money to make money." "BTW, there's sure a lot more money for the rest of us without Ryu around . . ."
Torideyama Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 (edited) "BTW, there's sure a lot more money for the rest of us without Ryu around . . ." I only did a quick glance at the kensho standings from this basho and last (Kensho Standings AKI 07 Kensho Standings Nagoya 2007 The apparent truth is that while Asashoryu is not winning any kenshos, there are less kenshos available overall because of his absence. So perhaps the above statement is not true. Does anyone have the totals for kenshos for Nagoya and Aki? It should also be noted that in Natsu, Hakuho beat Asa 243-178. Jonosuke Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Hakuho in Ulaanbaator on September 28: (On the Aki basho) "The weight of loss is so much different from when you were an ozeki and yokozuna. I was preparing to win the yusho at all costs so once I suffered my second loss, I became really tense." (On a report in Mongolia he is about acquire Japanese citizenship) "My family is very important to me. I love both Mongolia and sumo. I beleive what one does with his own life is up to himself."
