Jakusotsu Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 The other three will probably be from Roho, Miyabiyama, Dejima Kisenosato and Honmasho. Do You know more than we do? By the way, Honmasho, I like it. :-D
yamaneko Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 I sensed just a LITTLE drop off in the determination level today, not sure what it was, nervousness as the reality gets closer, or perhaps too much self confidence. I hope that he turns it back tomorrow, because im sure hakuho will be fired up for this bout as well. Perhaps kotomitsuki will take a page out of hakuho's "how to get promoted" book and do a henka on a yokozuna. :)

Shomishuu Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 When he becomes Kotozakura, will Mickey then be Zack?? (Sigh...)
Asojima Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 When he becomes Kotozakura, will Mickey then be Zack?? (Sigh...) In my crowd, Kotozakura was known as Jack or Koto Jack.
Kotonosato Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Mickey has five fights left after Hakuho tomorrow. Asashoryu and Chiyotaikai for sure. I think he will lose to both Yokozuna and beat the ozeki. If he's prepared for the henka from Oshu and 'backing-up sumo' from Kaio, maybe you're right.

nirumaruyama Posted July 17, 2007 Author Posted July 17, 2007 What a sweet win for Kotomitsuki! one yokkozuna down only his nemsis to go!
Shimpu Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 He did it. Now or never. Death or Glory ! ! ! (Clapping wildly...)
fmjs Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 What a sweet win for Kotomitsuki! one yokkozuna down only his nemsis to go! HE CAN DO IT! HE CAN DO IT! (Clapping wildly...) (Holiday feeling...) (Showing respect...) (Clapping wildly...) (On the banzuke...) (Yusho winner...) *fists pumping ungraciously*
nirumaruyama Posted July 17, 2007 Author Posted July 17, 2007 Is it my imagination or is the Kotomitsuki bandwagon getting bigger? I enjoyed his fist pump after the superb winning throw. I thought he'd lost it at one stage when his feet seemed to get stuck under him but he really showed his desire.
Kotonosato Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Probably no one here wants to hear this, but did anybody else think his tachiai was a henka? It was clear to me that he only barely absorbed the initial charge and then slid around to his left to get the grip. Anybody else think so?
Bealzbob Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 I think after today's win we are now seeing the next Ozeki. I also think the chasing pack of Asashoryu and Homasho can not be ruled out for the yusho. Asa for obvious reasons but many feel Homasho is the NEXT Ozeki after Mickey and he seems to be firing well. Can't wait for the closing few days. This is turning into an awesome basho and I'd love to see Mickey claim the yusho. Can't really see him beating Asashoryu though.
yamaneko Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 maybe its just me, and for SURE its only because of recent yaocho news every few seconds, but after watching the replays it seemed strange the way hakuho lost. Like he was already flying throuh the air before mickey had even gone all the way through his move...and its hard enough to throw hakuho like that at any time. Maybe he just got hakuho off balance, but watching slow motion on the big screen, it looked very close to a dive. This is why i hate those yaocho rumors. Its got me looking for things like this, and now i cant enjoy moments such as this as much.

Maybe he just got hakuho off balance, but watching slow motion on the big screen, it looked very close to a dive. Never. Hakuho's a new yokozuna, he has a lot to prove and it's infinitely more lucrative for him to stack up wins than to keel over for a quick buck. Plus Mickey could get his wins off other people, so why would Hakuho do him the favour? I put the 'flying' down to simple momentum. Probably no one here wants to hear this, but did anybody else think his tachiai was a henka? It was clear to me that he only barely absorbed the initial charge and then slid around to his left to get the grip. Mickey has been going slightly to the side in a few of his bouts but never enough to declare it a henka. In fact it's tricky to pull off because someone striking you at full force could simply tip you off kilter. I think this slightly-off manoeuvre is partly behind his stack of wins; he now knows how to angle for the belt whilst absorbing his opponent's force. Just my flawed opinion. ^_^;; Is it my imagination or is the Kotomitsuki bandwagon getting bigger? Us that have been on it a long time deserve company! :D ;)
Peterao Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Well, Kotomitsuki is obviously losing tomorrow. But he still has a shot if he wins out from there, and meets Hakuho in a yusho playoff.

I think he might beat Asashoryu. It's a little feeling I have. Of course his knees will become like jelly and his focus will become like jelly and he will be toppled from the dohyo by Asa like a jelly baby. That's teh big feeling I have but I hope the bandwagon keeps on rolling.

Keep the fires of belief burning! :) Asashoryu has not become weaker by any means but he's definitely unsettled... which may allow for mistakes to occur. All we can do is bellow at the TV (or directly at the dohyo, for the lucky ones...) Sausage fingers crossed.

It was clear to me that he only barely absorbed the initial charge and then slid around to his left to get the grip.Anybody else think so? Not me. Hard to henka to the left when you lead with your right shoulder. It was a yotsu-type tachiai, though, meant to get superior position rather than knock the other guy back. He led with the right shoulder while grabbing for the uwate with his left and as soon as he got it he was moving to the left, working the angle. I knew he was going to win when they showed a close-up of his face just before tachiai. It was perfect focus; not the overly aggressive contempt Kisenosato sometimes shows, or the vacant stare of Wakanosato on a bad day. Kotomitsuki was like, "I'm going to beat you, but I don't really care about it. It's just the thing I have to do at the moment." If he maintains the same focus tomorrow, Asashoryu is toast.
Jakusotsu Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 If he maintains the same focus tomorrow, Asashoryu is toast. That's a very, very big if...

The only way a yaocho scheme works is if Asashoryu, along with the rest of Hakuho's opponents, have already agreed to take a dive against Hakuho so it doesn't cost him the yusho. Then, somebody has to pay Hakuho whatever he would have demanded as compensation for giving up his rensho. I believe everyone can fully enjoy this moment just as much as I did. (I am not worthy...)
