Same  for me on Edge. Those 2 extra clicks make the whole experience an exercise in patience.

TBF, Firefox also allows access after two clicks; I have a very ancient version of Safari (just there for emergency backup and because it's Apple) and it says "Not Secure" but still loads.

A father-son name verification/correction:

Ononishiki - ja.wiki confirms Ikegawa as the surname reading, but says the given name is read Yoshio よしお.
Fuyomine - that same article confirms Kiyotaka as the son's given name reading; I would assume that also goes for the time that we have it as part of his shikona.

I recently came across pictures that appear to be results and makuuchi matches from the 1906 Haru basho - link to the gallery.
Unfortunately, the full image has terrible resolution, and the detailed image is not complete. But I guess it's better than nothing.

I'm not a fan of adding isolated stuff to the DB as you can see in the stats: https://sumodb.sumogames.de/Basho.aspx

It's a lot of work, especially when more stuff gets added later. If we can find continuous stuff of several basho in that time frame, that would be fine to add I think.

A bit of an odd one:  Querying for makuuchi yusho playoff participants in Nagoya 2023 only gives loser Hokutofuji as a result but not winner Hoshoryu (torikumi).

Well, Excel or a Google sheet with one match per row would be best. Or just text here of course with lines like

and so on (only once per match, not from both rikishi's perspectives), that's easy enough to import in Excel.

But what do you mean with "more data"? Are there more basho available like this?

Yes, there are more basho available, but they need to be scraped one-by-one, which takes some time and is a bit error-prone. However, I'll go into it and once I have a reasonable amount of data, I will share it here with everyone.

If that's the case, the data can be scraped using a simple script (with some workarounds, as this is not the ideal way to present the data). For example 1909.01, the first missing basho in the database.

Format: Basho_id Day Wrestler1 Wrestler2 Result
Result: W=win, L=lose, D=draw, H=hold, A=absent

The only question is whether the kanji from this site matches the kanji in the database.

Edit - I realized that rikishi with 4 (or more) characters in their shikona are shortened when listed as opponents (e.g. 伊勢ノ濱 becomes 伊勢濱). This creates another set of unwanted duplicates, so I needed to fix it.

So, here is the zip file containing all the missing basho from the Meiji era: from 1909.01 back to 1868.11. When I saw names like Kimenzan or Shiranui, I took it as a sign that this is enough for now.

The archive includes one file (combined_output.txt) with every match, and individual files for each basho. I tried to sanitize the data in every possible way (though it’s still possible I missed something).

- 81 basho
- 16665 matches

@Doitsuyama - I can provide you with a google sheet containing every match privately. Of course, I don’t expect you to process it anytime soon, but if you eventually decide to take a look, please feel free to contact me. I’ll try to help if you run into any issues with this data.

I was just scouring the DB for the youngest-debuting rikishi listed in it, and came across a guy that we briefly talked about a few years ago when the same topic came up (name bolding not in original posts):

I have to say that even though a debut at age 11 was possible in that era, his results strain credulity. As the DB has it, he would have gone 8-0 in jonidan and progressed through most of sandanme as a 12-year-old. It's unfortunate that the profile Yubinhaad turned up back then doesn't have the full birthdate, but age 19 certainly looks a lot more believable. Maybe the original source material is still available that the alleged 1946 birthyear came from?

This is a general matter of the DB handling things differently than the Kyokai for all foreign rikishi who debuted since 2009, not something specific to Aonishiki.
