Bealzbob Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 .... Will Kotomitsuki finally get promotion to the rank of Ozeki in Nagoya ?
Bealzbob Posted June 13, 2007 Author Posted June 13, 2007 My heart says yes but my head says no. I really want him to do it though.
aderechelsea Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 i'll go with the safe bet and say .... "No". i won't have a problem if he proves me wrong :-S
Gusoyama Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 like I said before, 3-1 or 4-1 odds says he doesn't do it.
Sasanishiki Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 (edited) I am hoping mightily, but I'm not confident enough to put any money on it! Hopefully some of the attention on Hakuho's basho as shin-yokozuna will take the heat off Kotomitsuki so that he can get into his groove. Edited June 13, 2007 by Sasanishiki
Gusoyama Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 2 healthy yokozunae = only room for 1 loss. I understand this is exactly what he did last basho, but still, I think its doubtful. I'd like to make a request of Doitsuyama, and/or any other stattos out there. What is Mickey's "strength rating" compared to others when they were making their Ozeki bid? Or even to when he was making his previous 34 over 3 bid? I don't have access to any databases anymore so I can't really check this out.

These should be most of the "interesting" basho for recent rikishi...I don't think that necessarily all of these were considered ozeki runs at the time, but I've decided to leave a few more in the list. W2 is the win total of the previous two basho, R is Doitsuyama's Heisei-based basho rating for the rikishi, and R# is the ordinal rank of his rating for that basho. Gusoyama Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Thanks for the numbers. I still don't think he'll do it, but I think it would be great if he did. :)
ilovesumo Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Now that I look in this poll again, it is 50/50 with 14 to 14 votes...kinda interesting (Sigh...)
Jakusotsu Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Those throwing around probability numbers are probably missing the point of the question. Me too thinks the odds aren't favourable for his promotion, but I still believe he'll go against them, so I voted yes.
slt Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Maybe he'll manage it, by dissolving his losing streak v. Asashoryu !! ... or perhaps not. I say he crumbles, after an 7-0 start.
