Phoenix Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Is the making of the Tsuna going to be filmed? And will his Dohyo-iri at the shrine also be filmed? I'd really like to see both. I'm moving back to the states soon and I may not get to watch the next basho. :-)
Jejima Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 I am sure they will be filmed. Not 100% sure if they will be televised or not, but I would suspect that at least a small segment will make the news.

I'm moving back to the states soon and I may not get to watch the next basho. :-) According to the Yomiuri sumo guy I spoke to today, the tsuna making and the practice are both Thursday at Miyagino and will be in front of a select few... (that means not me (Sign of approval...) ) I believe the tv and press cameras will be there, but the reporters are being limited to some old hands - a choice selection from the kisha club. Although I am sure it is written somewhere else here, the man doing the teaching is Ajigawa oyakata AKA ex Asahifuji AKA uncle of Asofuji and Aminishiki AKA practitioner of shiranui style. Meiji Jingu ring ceremony is Friday at any time between 2.30 and 3.30, depending on who you ask. Edited May 29, 2007 by James H

A great picture for you from the making of the tsuna (check out the weird boobies on the guy behind them..): Whoa! That's the worst set of man-boobs I ever saw! Sorry for the off-topic...
Takamizakura Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Whoa! That's the worst set of man-boobs I ever saw! Sorry for the off-topic... And also the first set of National Geographic man boobs, too.
Quintalomaru Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 I am sure they will be filmed. Not 100% sure if they will be televised or not, but I would suspect that at least a small segment will make the news. Aren't they making a tarawa rather than a tsuna on those pictures?

Caption says tsuna. Actually , it's hemp. It's called asa-momi. They unfasten something from something else to make a new something, a sort of tsuna-ish sandwich. Joe can probably explain this much better. I thought it was mom in the morning. Anyhow, doesn't Asamomi belong to Takasago? EDIT: I just had a thought- maybe they're making a special bra for Tittinoumi? Edited May 29, 2007 by Kintamayama
Jakusotsu Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 (check out the weird boobies on the guy behind them..): If I'm not mistaken, that guy is Anju from Ajigawa-beya. Ever since I saw him on the dohyo I wonder when he'll be wearing his nipples below the belly button...

I 2nd that motion, those are nasty! I see you've been enjoying our "plastic" this afternoon, sir.. You are always welcome. Can you tell the folks around here your famous story of your tachiai- against Akebono??
Jakusotsu Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Can you tell the folks around here your famous story of your tachiai- against Akebono?? No need to. Must of us have probably read "Gaijin Yokozuna" by now. (I am not worthy...)
kawika Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 (edited) Can you tell the folks around here your famous story of your tachiai- against Akebono?? Maybe later, but the story can be found in the book, Gaijin Yokozuna. Edited May 31, 2007 by Manekineko quotes again :P
Kaikitsune Makoto Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 (edited) "Better than me!" said Ajigawa-oyakata after Hakuho had deeply impressed the surroundings with his majestetic shiranuigata at yokozuna dohyo-iri practise today. Before the training could begin some difficulties were faced when making tsuna as in Tatsunami-ichimon no yokozuna in some while so not much experienced tsuna makers. Former tsukebito of Asahifuji's was brought to scene too in addition to up to 60 people including a bunch of sekitori. Hakuho's performance was indeed good and shiranuigata's highlight part of rising from the squat hands spread was particularly enticing. Edited May 31, 2007 by Kaikitsune Makoto
sekihiryu Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 FYI his Meiji Jingu thingy will be on the box at 7pm tonight on NHK. I will make a 'torrent' of it for those who usually get them. Also I recorded a couple of news items on Wednesday, the first along story on NHK news (with english translations, the second one another long article on Fuji Tv sport show (Japanese). (will also make torrents) I have been having the good wife scour the TV listing each day to find me tidbits (In jonokuchi...) For those who really want to see the videos, PM me and will make a highly compressed versions and upload to a file hosting site for you.
