philafuji Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 What was your largest disapointment this basho? Mine was the long awaited rematch between an injury free Asashoryu and Hakuo. It didn't happen sorry to say. Philafuji
Kintamayama Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 (edited) Mine was when I wasn't chosen for "Israel Idol 4" during the basho. Darn. I thought I was good. As for Sumo, I'd say Kisenosato. I'm expecting so much of him. I've been saying that for so long. Kisenosato, yes. Definitely. And Houmashou. I was pretty sure he would make sanyaku. Oh, and Wackymountain. I never expected him to get demoted. Which reminds me of Goueidou. I was sure he'd walk through Juryo backwards. Not to mention Toyozakura, who should have won at least 9. And then there's Tosanoumi..I expected at least 11. Well.. Edited May 28, 2007 by Kintamayama

Goeido's collapse came out of nowhere considering his ability and keiko prowess and extremely good progress in Haru basho. She never disappointed: http://www.mainichi.co.jp/event/art/news/2...104-175857.html

You forgot Kokkai (won only 2 bouts), Kasuganishiki (4-11 coming after another 4-11 last basho) and Katayama (5-10 after three straight make-koshi). Why wasn't you chosen for "Israel Idol 4"? Every sumo fan should have you as idol. :-)
Kintamayama Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Why wasn't you chosen for "Israel Idol 4"? Every sumo fan should have you as idol. :-) They said I was much too young and the compulsive way I spell the shikonae pisses them off.
Azumashida Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Definitely Goeido for me too. He looks so "easy" when he wins that I have a hard time understanding how come he lost so much this basho. And as a whole, the basho was very disappointing for all the young Japanese sekitori, with the notable exception of Toyohibiki...
aderechelsea Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Asashoryu's injury... (Zabuton flying...) Tochisakae not getting the juryo yusho. (Showing respect...) Kaiho not getting double digits. Ichihara staying for another basho in Makushita. Homasho .... how is he going to be an Ozeki when he cannot get a KK from M1 ??? (First prize...)
Jonosuke Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Sugishita retiring...I lost all my interest in Jonokuchi bouts. And a likely retirement of Tochisakae....
aderechelsea Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Sugishita retiring...I lost all my interest in Jonokuchi bouts. ditto .... (Showing respect...) another reason for that was the promotion of Morikawa to Jonidan ....
Asashosakari Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 another reason for that was the promotion of Morikawa to Jonidan .... C'mon, he'll be back soon enough. (Showing respect...)
Kotononami Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 1 Iwakiyama 's 4th consecutive MK (20-40 on the last 4 basho) 2 Buyuzan MK in higher makushita , his sekitori come-back seems to be difficult now... 3 Tochinonada' KK on senshuraku , to become again sanyaku or joi-jin will be difficult for him. 4 Takanowaka back to makushita?

Kotononami and any one else. How old is Iwakiyama? He appears to be one of the biggest rikishi's in sumo and appears very strong. In other words If I was walking down the street and saw him walking toward's me I would definately cross the street. I can't understand why he isn't much better at sumo than he is showing now? Has he had a major injury in the past that still affects him now?
Kotonosato Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 My biggest disappointment was the SML's inability to put aside their childest flaming (Showing respect...) during one the most exciting basho I've seen in years. The good news is that that was enough incentive to bring me to this Forum on a regular basis. (Zabuton flying...) Thanks for allowing this sumo refugee into your homes.
ilovesumo Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 2 Buyuzan MK in higher makushita , his sekitori come-back seems to be difficult now... Buyuzan's knee is so bad, he can't even walk without problems. It's instable. But I saw him at Musashigawa's keiko before the Basho and how much he wanted to do the very best. He is no disappointment at all. He and his fans can be proud- I am such a proud fan and wish him all the best. The same with Kaiho. His loss on Shonichi showed perfectly that it's not enough just to see the result. Sure, only that counts in the end, but he really did his best all the time. When he faced Baruto...oh my. Simply overpowered by a giant not even an other giant can move easily. 9-6 is great and just to see him on the Dohyo is awsome. (Showing respect...) (First prize...) (Zabuton flying...)

philafuji Posted May 28, 2007 Author Posted May 28, 2007 Thanks. I will check that out very soon. Philafuji

I'm sure he's doing his best but his knee and his age (33 years old in july) make the things more difficult. Gambatte Buyu!

philafuji Posted May 29, 2007 Author Posted May 29, 2007 Your English is just fine. No apology needed. IMHO Philafuji
s0101 Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Homashou - I was hoping he'd make Komusubi at least. No playoff - the healthier Asa better the chances to have a playoff.
Otokonoyama Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 I was disappointed that we couldn't see an injury free ball-of-fire Toyonoshima rock the sumo world in his san'yaku debut. Even injured, he never embarrassed himself, showing fine fighting spirit and true grit & determination. He'll be back (In a state of confusion...)
philafuji Posted May 29, 2007 Author Posted May 29, 2007 Your English is just fine. No apology needed. IMHO Philafuji Phil-san why do you write your name at the bottom of every post? It's not a signature line so you must be typing it every time. Is it a habit from writing letters? You know something, your right. I got in to a habit of doing this on a forum other than sumo. There was a member on the forum whose name was close to mine and members were getting us confused. So I started using my forum name at the end of each e mail to cut down on the confusion. I just now realized I no longer have to do that. Thank you for bringing that up.
sashimaru Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Why wasn't you chosen for "Israel Idol 4"? Every sumo fan should have you as idol. (Clapping wildly...) They said I was much too young and the compulsive way I spell the shikonae pisses them off. Too many U, like in KaioU? (I am not worthy...) My biggest disapointment this basho was that the juryo-fights weren't shown on the stream. (In a state of confusion...) I would have paid for it!
Bealzbob Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Biggest disappointment(s) Asa's injury robbing us of a more interesting climax. Still think Hakuho would have promoted though. Kyokutenho's absense (In a state of confusion...) The M9 ranks (Roho & Miyabiyama) not tearing it up quite as much as I thought they would, although both did get comfortable KK's. Homasho & more surprisingly Tochiozan at the lower rank hitting the MK wall. Kotooshu - but then he's a big disappointment in every basho. Not a fan I'm afraid. Baruto just missing his 2nd zensho juryo yusho.
