I've packed out my sumo book and I don't know what its called to do a google search. Several rikishi wear what looks like a white sock on the dohyo. What is this and why do they wear it? I thought maybe to help with traction but to me its seems as if it would hinder traction.

Thanks! and I know how cracked heels feel, they are no fun. Being a diabetic I have to be careful not to let them get infected!
