Doitsuyama Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 The field of undefeated rikishi is shrinking to four as Kaio lost to sekiwake Ama and didn't look good, never getting his sumo going. Still, four 8-0 rikishi at Nakabi with Asashoryu, Hakuho, Dejima and Futeno is quite a lot. Only Haru 1989 had more undefeated rikishi at Nakabi with six as all active (as of day 8) yokozuna and ozeki were 8-0. Even beyond the undefeated rikishi this is a pretty lopsided basho in the makuuchi division as five rikishi are 7-1 with four sanyaku among them, completed with Asasekiryu who quickly beat Ryuo. Three rikishi already are make-koshi with Kakizoe, Tokitsuumi and Otsukasa. Otsukasa is getting into demotion danger, but the closest to demotion is Kasuganishiki with three straight losses and 2-6 at the lowest makuuchi rank. Juryo also has two 0-8 rikishi with Tochisakae and Bushuyama, as Takanowaka won his first bout today. Five sekitori at 0-8 is an alltime record, beating Kyushu 2006, Haru 1964 and Natsu 1944 with four rikishi at 0-8 (in all three cases it was four makuuchi and none in juryo). Masatsukasa had to go kyujo, surrendering the good promotion opportunity this basho. Kitazakura gets the free win and is in a good position with 5-3 at J2e. Only lead juryo Yoshikaze is ahead of him as he also is 5-3 with a win (oshitaoshi over Goeido). Baruto still leads the juryo yusho race at 7-1 with a hikiotoshi over Jumonji. The number of pursuers split in half as only Shunketsu, Koryu and Toyohibiki won today. -- Doitsuyama Day 8 Juryo Ms4e Wakatenro (2-3) oshidashi J12w Bushuyama (0-8) J11e Shirononami (5-3) shitatenage J13w Mokonami (5-3) J10e Tamarikido (4-4) kakenage J13e Wakanoho (4-4) J9w Daimanazuru (5-3) oshidashi J14e Chiyohakuho (3-5) J8e Hakuba (3-5) yorikiri J14w Kyokunankai (5-3) J7e Toyozakura (4-4) oshidashi J12e Kobo (3-5) J9e Takanowaka (1-7) sukuinage J7w Katayama (2-6) J11w Baruto (7-1) hikiotoshi J6e Jumonji (3-5) J6w Toyohibiki (6-2) oshidashi J10w Asofuji (4-4) J8w Koryu (6-2) tsukidashi J5e Kaiho (5-3) J2e Kitazakura (5-3) fusen J4e Masatsukasa (4-4) J5w Shunketsu (6-2) yoritaoshi J2w Hakurozan (4-4) J1e Yoshikaze (5-3) oshitaoshi J3e Goeido (2-6) J1w Tosanoumi (3-5) oshidashi J3w Tochisakae (0-8) Makuuchi M15e Ushiomaru (3-5) oshitaoshi J4w Ryuho (4-4) M15w Iwakiyama (4-4) hatakikomi M13w Tochinohana (2-6) M12e Tamakasuga (3-5) oshitaoshi M16w Kasuganishiki (2-6) M12w Satoyama (2-6) hatakikomi M14w Hochiyama (3-5) M13e Futeno (8-0) uwatenage M11w Tochinonada (4-4) M10e Dejima (8-0) hikiotoshi M16e Hokutoriki (6-2) M8w Asasekiryu (7-1) hikiotoshi M14e Ryuo (6-2) M7w Wakanosato (4-4) okuridashi M11e Otsukasa (0-8) M9e Roho (5-3) yorikiri M5e Takekaze (3-5) M5w Kakuryu (3-5) hatakikomi M9w Miyabiyama (3-5) M7e Takamisakari (6-2) yorikiri M4e Aminishiki (5-3) M4w Tochiozan (4-4) uwatenage M6w Kasugao (3-5) M2w Tamanoshima (2-6) oshitaoshi M6e Tokitsuumi (0-8) M1e Homasho (2-6) yorikiri K1e Toyonoshima (1-7) S1e Kotomitsuki (7-1) shitatenage M2e Kokkai (1-7) S1w Ama (4-4) oshidashi O2e Kaio (7-1) O1w Kotooshu (7-1) uwatenage M1w Tokitenku (3-5) O1e Hakuho (8-0) oshidashi M3w Kisenosato (4-4) O3w Chiyotaikai (7-1) oshitaoshi M3e Kakizoe (0-8) Y1e Asashoryu (8-0) sukuinage K1w Kotoshogiku (3-5) Day 9 Juryo J14w Kyokunankai (5-3) J13w Mokonami (5-3) J12e Kobo (3-5) J10w Asofuji (4-4) J10e Tamarikido (4-4) J14e Chiyohakuho (3-5) J13e Wakanoho (4-4) J8w Koryu (6-2) J8e Hakuba (3-5) J11e Shirononami (5-3) J12w Bushuyama (0-8) J7w Katayama (2-6) J11w Baruto (7-1) J6w Toyohibiki (6-2) J6e Jumonji (3-5) J9w Daimanazuru (5-3) J9e Takanowaka (1-7) J5w Shunketsu (6-2) J3e Goeido (2-6) J3w Tochisakae (0-8) J7e Toyozakura (4-4) J2w Hakurozan (4-4) J4w Ryuho (4-4) J1w Tosanoumi (3-5) J1e Yoshikaze (5-3) J5e Kaiho (5-3) Makuuchi J2e Kitazakura (5-3) M16w Kasuganishiki (2-6) M14e Ryuo (6-2) M15e Ushiomaru (3-5) M14w Hochiyama (3-5) M13w Tochinohana (2-6) M12e Tamakasuga (3-5) M12w Satoyama (2-6) M15w Iwakiyama (4-4) M11w Tochinonada (4-4) M13e Futeno (8-0) M9w Miyabiyama (3-5) M9e Roho (5-3) M10e Dejima (8-0) M16e Hokutoriki (6-2) M7w Wakanosato (4-4) M7e Takamisakari (6-2) M8w Asasekiryu (7-1) M6e Tokitsuumi (0-8) M11e Otsukasa (0-8) M5e Takekaze (3-5) M6w Kasugao (3-5) M2e Kokkai (1-7) M5w Kakuryu (3-5) M3e Kakizoe (0-8) M1w Tokitenku (3-5) M2w Tamanoshima (2-6) K1w Kotoshogiku (3-5) S1e Kotomitsuki (7-1) M4w Tochiozan (4-4) M1e Homasho (2-6) O3w Chiyotaikai (7-1) O2e Kaio (7-1) M3w Kisenosato (4-4) M4e Aminishiki (5-3) O1w Kotooshu (7-1) O1e Hakuho (8-0) K1e Toyonoshima (1-7) Y1e Asashoryu (8-0) S1w Ama (4-4)
