Looked more like a friendly slap on the shoulder to me.

It wasn't all that bad. Probably Asashoryu was annoyed at Tamonoshima taking forever to get to the shikiri line.

It was bad. It was very bad. It was a slap to the face, not the shoulder, and long after the "shoubu ari" by the gyoza.

I will stop here, before I show my true colors again.

nah, nothing in that at all, it barely made contact ( I watched multiple TV replays) and was no worse than any of fthe little extra shoves or arm sweeping - "get the hell out of here" motions that he often makes.

OTOH, Nikkan posted this pic, with the caption saying-"Asashouryuu delivers a dame-push to 'persistent' Tamanoshima's face".. :

Translation-He got a slap in after the decision.

And, it is obvious it's not a "friendly tap on the shoulder". Lucky thing Tamanoshima has no chin.

It's a typical Asa finish! Nothing new... (Sign of disapproval...) Too bad someone doesn't do that to him. But then that "someone" would be "severely punished," though. :-P No one is dumb enough to that to Asa. Only those bad examples can be set by the Yokozuna Asashoryu. (or Roho sometimes... ) (Whistling...)

Upon further review of the replay .... It was a less than friendly slap and he kinda missed the shoulder, but it still did not look like a particularly nasty or untoward shot. :-P

"I don't let up till it's really all over..", explained Asashouryuu when asked about the extra slap. He revealed that what really gets him irritated is when someone is slow throwing the salt. "It gets me real 'hot' and that's good. It just makes me want to do good sumo!!", he added.

I'm far from the biggest Asashoryu fan here, but I pretty much agree with Asojima's comment.

I am a biggest Asashouryuu fan here, but I beg to differ. All major online papers have mentioned this in "sensation" mode, even saying Asa admitted he went a bit wild, because " Tamanoshima delayed his last shikiri on purpose and kept him waiting". This incident got far more attention in the online press than his prior little dame-oshis. The mere fact that Sanspo had three photos and an article is not usual. Nikkan mentioned it twice in two different articles. Others all mentioned it. If it was a "less than friendly slap" it would not have taken up bandwidth..

It isn't doing it for me either, truth be said. In any case, I will terminate myself in this thread (unless I return) by saying, to me, it was a serious, intentional, badass slap to the face after the match, and I like it!!
