Doitsuyama Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Only two leaders lost today with Hokutoriki and Kotomitsuki, making it seven rikishi remaining undefeated at 5-0. Asashoryu, Hakuho, Kaio and Chiyotaikai are the sanyaku rikishi among them with Asasekiryu, Dejima and Futeno coming from the lower half of makuuchi. Miyabiyama got his first real win, but even against Otsukasa he had real trouble until he shoved him out. Wakanosato is another recent sanyaku regular struggling here, also getting only his second win today. Baruto had the fifth yorikiri win this basho to stay the sole juryo leader with Yoshikaze, Shunketsu and Mokonami following at 4-1. The last time a sekitori started the basho with five yorikiri wins was in Nagoya 1989 as M8w Daijuyama did the same. There could be really many promotions to makuuchi with Tochiazuma retiring, Kyokutenho and Shimotori kyujo and several rikishi in low makuuchi struggling, so some lucky promotions are likely this basho. -- Doitsuyama Day 5 Juryo Ms3w Wakakirin (3-0) fumidashi J13e Wakanoho (3-2) J14w Kyokunankai (3-2) oshidashi J12w Bushuyama (0-5) J11e Shirononami (3-2) oshidashi J14e Chiyohakuho (2-3) J11w Baruto (5-0) yorikiri J10w Asofuji (3-2) J13w Mokonami (4-1) uwatedashinage J9w Daimanazuru (3-2) J8e Hakuba (2-3) yorikiri J12e Kobo (2-3) J10e Tamarikido (2-3) sukuinage J7w Katayama (1-4) J7e Toyozakura (3-2) tsukidashi J9e Takanowaka (0-5) J5w Shunketsu (4-1) tsukiotoshi J8w Koryu (3-2) J5e Kaiho (3-2) watashikomi J6e Jumonji (2-3) J6w Toyohibiki (3-2) uwatedashinage J2w Hakurozan (2-3) J2e Kitazakura (3-2) tsukidashi J4w Ryuho (3-2) J1w Tosanoumi (2-3) yorikiri J4e Masatsukasa (3-2) J1e Yoshikaze (4-1) oshidashi J3w Tochisakae (0-5) Makuuchi M16w Kasuganishiki (2-3) hatakikomi J3e Goeido (1-4) M14w Hochiyama (3-2) okuridashi M16e Hokutoriki (4-1) M15e Ushiomaru (1-4) oshidashi M13w Tochinohana (1-4) M13e Futeno (5-0) yorikiri M15w Iwakiyama (1-4) M14e Ryuo (4-1) oshidashi M12e Tamakasuga (1-4) M10e Dejima (5-0) oshitaoshi M12w Satoyama (1-4) M9w Miyabiyama (2-3) yorikiri M11e Otsukasa (0-5) M8w Asasekiryu (5-0) uwatedashinage M11w Tochinonada (3-2) M7w Wakanosato (2-3) tsukiotoshi M6w Kasugao (2-3) M9e Roho (3-2) oshidashi M5w Kakuryu (2-3) M5e Takekaze (2-3) yorikiri M7e Takamisakari (3-2) M4e Aminishiki (4-1) yorikiri M4w Tochiozan (2-3) M3w Kisenosato (3-2) yorikiri M6e Tokitsuumi (0-5) K1w Kotoshogiku (2-3) yorikiri S1w Ama (3-2) M1w Tokitenku (2-3) hatakikomi S1e Kotomitsuki (4-1) O3w Chiyotaikai (5-0) hatakikomi M2w Tamanoshima (1-4) O2e Kaio (5-0) yorikiri K1e Toyonoshima (0-5) O1w Kotooshu (4-1) yorikiri M3e Kakizoe (0-5) O1e Hakuho (5-0) yorikiri M1e Homasho (1-4) Y1e Asashoryu (5-0) yorikiri M2e Kokkai (0-5) Day 6 Juryo J14e Chiyohakuho (2-3) Ms3e Kitataiki (1-2) J11e Shirononami (3-2) J12e Kobo (2-3) J13e Wakanoho (3-2) J11w Baruto (5-0) J10e Tamarikido (2-3) J14w Kyokunankai (3-2) J13w Mokonami (4-1) J10w Asofuji (3-2) J12w Bushuyama (0-5) J8w Koryu (3-2) J7e Toyozakura (3-2) J9w Daimanazuru (3-2) J6e Jumonji (2-3) J9e Takanowaka (0-5) J8e Hakuba (2-3) J6w Toyohibiki (3-2) J5e Kaiho (3-2) J7w Katayama (1-4) J3e Goeido (1-4) J4e Masatsukasa (3-2) J2e Kitazakura (3-2) J5w Shunketsu (4-1) J3w Tochisakae (0-5) J2w Hakurozan (2-3) J1e Yoshikaze (4-1) J4w Ryuho (3-2) Makuuchi M15e Ushiomaru (1-4) J1w Tosanoumi (2-3) M16w Kasuganishiki (2-3) M15w Iwakiyama (1-4) M14e Ryuo (4-1) M14w Hochiyama (3-2) M13e Futeno (5-0) M13w Tochinohana (1-4) M12e Tamakasuga (1-4) M16e Hokutoriki (4-1) M12w Satoyama (1-4) M11w Tochinonada (3-2) M7e Takamisakari (3-2) M11e Otsukasa (0-5) M10e Dejima (5-0) M7w Wakanosato (2-3) M6e Tokitsuumi (0-5) M9w Miyabiyama (2-3) M9e Roho (3-2) M6w Kasugao (2-3) M8w Asasekiryu (5-0) M5w Kakuryu (2-3) M5e Takekaze (2-3) M3w Kisenosato (3-2) M4w Tochiozan (2-3) M1w Tokitenku (2-3) K1e Toyonoshima (0-5) K1w Kotoshogiku (2-3) S1e Kotomitsuki (4-1) M1e Homasho (1-4) O1e Hakuho (5-0) S1w Ama (3-2) M4e Aminishiki (4-1) O3w Chiyotaikai (5-0) O2e Kaio (5-0) M2w Tamanoshima (1-4) M2e Kokkai (0-5) O1w Kotooshu (4-1) Y1e Asashoryu (5-0) M3e Kakizoe (0-5)

Asashosakari Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 (edited) ... seven [Makuuchi] rikishi remaining undefeated at 5-0. Is this a new record? It ties the record set in Haru 1989. The last time a sekitori started the basho with five yorikiri wins was in Nagoya 1989 as M8w Daijuyama did the same. Daijyuyama lost on Day 5 in Nagoya 1989, so if Baruto wins tomorrow(Day6) by Yorikiri, will it be a new record? No, the record is Kitanoumi starting with 8 yorikiri victories in Natsu 1978. Gacktoh Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Thank you so much! (Clapping wildly...) Asashosakari Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 In jyuuryou, is this a new record? There's not enough kimarite data available to say for sure. (Clapping wildly...) But for the Heisei era it's a record, at least for consecutive yorikiri from shonichi. Consecutive yorikiri, Juryo (1989-2007) Shikona Basho Days 5: Dairyu 1990.05 9-13 Kyokutenho 1996.03 3-7 Wakashoyo 1996.11 2-6 Dewaarashi 1999.03 4-8 Baruto 2007.05 1-5 Tokitsuumi had yorikiri wins on Days 1-4 in Nagoya 2006. Four-yorikiri streaks happen relatively often in Juryo, 27 times total in Heisei (including Tokitsuumi's). Also, if anyone's interested: Consecutive yorikiri, Makuuchi (1927-2007) Shikona Basho Days 9: Takanohana 2001.01 6-14 8: Kitanoumi 1978.05 1-8 Futahaguro 1987.11 2-9 7: Wakanohana 1979.01 4-10 Takanosato 1983.09 1-7 Konishiki 1987.03 8-14 6: Mienoumi 1975.09 1-6 Asahikuni 1976.03 8-13 Mienoumi 1980.01 10-15 Chiyonofuji 1983.11 10-15 Chiyonofuji 1984.01 1-6 Onokuni 1986.01 8-13 Onokuni 1987.11 5-10 Konishiki 1992.03 2-7 Takahanada 1993.01 2-7 Oginishiki 1993.11 10-15 Takanohana 1994.07 9-14 Takanohana 1998.09 4-9
aderechelsea Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Futeno and Ryuo keep on delivering good sumo this basho. I am very excited about their performance. Especially Futeno was stellar today. He defended great with the right hand and with the perfect timing he achieved a deep morozashi grip and carefully ousted Iwaki out. I hope he keeps on "delivering" and that he'll be awarded a sansho in the end ...
Doitsuyama Posted May 17, 2007 Author Posted May 17, 2007 In jyuuryou, is this a new record? Thanks to Asashosakari for filling in with the answers. For juryo I only had kimarite for Heisei. In the last weeks I have added juryo kimarite for 27 basho between 1966 and 1988 which is not much, but still a beginning.
Asashosakari Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Thanks to Asashosakari for filling in with the answers. I'm but a humble student of your query interface. (Clapping wildly...)
Gacktoh Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Thank you for answering, both of you, Doitsuyama-san and Asashosakari-san. (Clapping wildly...) I hope that I am not demanding to much.

Koneko Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Just wanted to say thank you to Doitsuyama-san for providing us with the results. I don't have the chance to see the bouts until sometime in June (when Eurosport finds the time) - I check these results slavishly every day; thanks again! (Sign of approval...)
