Bealzbob Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 I don't know if you guys/girls like this kind of thread but .. When was the last time all yokozuna, ozeki & sekiwake were 3-0 going into day 4 ? I can't remember it. But then I've a terrible memory :) Certainly seems as though we've a solid and motivated pair of sekiwake on our hands which is great to see and should give the ozeki a kick in the backside (metaphorically!).
Doitsuyama Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Good question, and worked the answer into my daily report. In short, it's not your memory at fault except you are more than 80 years old.
Gacktoh Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 1997 kyushu, all Yokozuna & ozki were 3-0. but I have no ideas all Yokozuna, Ozeki, and Sekiwke..... I would like to know it as well, Doitsuyama-san! I'm looking forward "daily report". Onegaishimasu. :-)

Fukurou Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Of course, the streak stops on Day 4, courtesy of Ama and Chiotaikai.
Bealzbob Posted May 15, 2007 Author Posted May 15, 2007 OK then to pre-empt the new topic tomorrow - Have the top 3 ranks ever gone to day 4 undefeated ?
Asashosakari Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 OK then to pre-empt the new topic tomorrow - Have the top 3 ranks ever gone to day 4 undefeated ? Yes, in the 1934 case Doitsuyama mentioned. Two of the three active top rankers in that basho received their first loss on Day 5, the other one on Day 7.
yamaneko Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 when was the last time a sekitori started his first 5 matches with yorikiri victories?
Doitsuyama Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 when was the last time a sekitori started his first 5 matches with yorikiri victories? It was in Nagoya 1989. M8w Daijuyama started with five yorikiri wins and finished the basho 11-4. There were six more between 1982 and 1985 (Chiyonofuji two times, Kitanoumi, Kurama, Takanosato and Kotokaze).
Bealzbob Posted May 17, 2007 Author Posted May 17, 2007 and hopefully to put an end to my annoying questions. Is there a website that can be used to find this kind of thing out - one where queries can be added. I know of hakkeyoi, is there another ? Or do you just have a gnarly array of spreadsheets :)
