philafuji Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 How is it that when there is a clash of heads coming together no one seems to get cut? Usually in many other sports if heads clash one or both players suffer cuts.
ilovesumo Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 Cuts happen but less often with the years cause the skin at that area changes cause of the scars. You see many Rikishi having a bald area at their head- that is where the tachiai bang happens. It destroys the hair folikel.

It seems like he is always shedding blood from forehead cuts.

Hmmm I haven't seen any noticeable unusual baldness or pattern on heads of any rikishi, except maybe Hakurozan. He must be a monster at tachai with that great impact coverage area on his head then... ;-) (Whistling...)

Gusoyama Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 My "reward" was a sanban-geiko session with Taira-san (Whistling...) Forgive my ignorance, but I do not recognize the name Taira. Who is he?

Former juryo Dewataira. He retired 2000 at age 25. At 32 years old he should still be fit enough for our Irish hero. ;-)
