Doitsuyama Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Yokozuna Asashoryu won against Ama to get a positive score for the first time this basho at 3-2. He didn't gain any ground in the yusho race though as all five ozeki and sekiwake Kotomitsuki won as well. The maegashira rikishi weren't making big splashes today with Kakuryu getting his first loss, and shin-nyumaku Tochiozan and Georgian Kokkai among the rikishi to get the second loss. Only two maegashira advanced to 4-1 with Tamanoshima and Shimotori (with a kubihineri). In juryo all three leaders won to get to 5-0 with young Goeido, small Satoyama and old Otsukasa. Ryuo won in a makuuchi visit against Tochinohana to prepare an exchange of these two and is the only juryo rikishi at 4-1 as Hakuba and Tamarikido lost. -- Doitsuyama Day 5 Juryo Ms3e Buyuzan (2-1) oshitaoshi J13e Takamifuji (2-3) J14w Oga (2-3) hatakikomi J12w Tamarikido (3-2) J13w Shirononami (3-2) oshidashi J11w Kyokunankai (2-3) J10e Bushuyama (3-2) hikiotoshi J14e Hokutoiwa (1-4) J8w Toyohibiki (2-3) oshidashi J12e Daimanazuru (2-3) J8e Shunketsu (3-2) sukuinage J10w Hakuba (3-2) J11e Koryu (3-2) yorikiri J7w Ryuho (1-4) J7e Asofuji (2-3) uwatedashinage J9e Kobo (1-4) J9w Goeido (5-0) tsukiotoshi J6w Katayama (2-3) J6e Tochisakae (3-2) oshidashi J3w Masatsukasa (2-3) J2w Takanowaka (1-4) okuridashi J4w Hokutoriki (2-3) J2e Kaiho (3-2) hikiotoshi J5w Kitazakura (2-3) J4e Satoyama (5-0) okuridashi J1w Hochiyama (1-4) J1e Otsukasa (5-0) abisetaoshi J5e Toyozakura (1-4) Makuuchi J3e Ryuo (4-1) oshidashi M15w Tochinohana (1-4) M16e Wakanosato (3-2) uwatenage M14w Tosanoumi (3-2) M15e Shimotori (4-1) kubihineri M12w Yoshikaze (1-4) M16w Jumonji (3-2) oshidashi M11e Iwakiyama (2-3) M10w Tokitsuumi (2-3) yorikiri M14e Tochiozan (3-2) M13e Hakurozan (2-3) yorikiri M10e Kasuganishiki (0-5) M9e Aminishiki (2-3) uwatedashinage M12e Ushiomaru (2-3) M8w Tamanoshima (4-1) oshidashi M11w Kakuryu (4-1) M6w Kakizoe (3-2) okuritaoshi M9w Tochinonada (3-2) M6e Takamisakari (3-2) uwatenage M8e Dejima (3-2) M7w Roho (2-3) hikiotoshi M5w Tamakasuga (1-4) M5e Homasho (3-2) yorikiri M7e Kokkai (3-2) M3w Kasugao (3-2) yorikiri M2e Kyokutenho (1-4) M1e Kisenosato (3-2) yorikiri M4w Takekaze (2-3) S1e Kotomitsuki (4-1) sukuinage K1w Tokitenku (2-3) O2w Kaio (2-3) oshitaoshi M1w Toyonoshima (3-2) O2e Kotooshu (3-2) yoritaoshi M4e Futeno (1-4) O1w Hakuho (4-1) uwatenage M2w Asasekiryu (1-4) O1e Chiyotaikai (4-1) hatakikomi S1w Kotoshogiku (1-4) O3w Tochiazuma (5-0) tsukiotoshi M3e Miyabiyama (2-3) Y1e Asashoryu (3-2) yorikiri K1e Ama (1-4) Day 6 Juryo J13e Takamifuji (2-3) Ms3w Musashiryu (1-2) J13w Shirononami (3-2) J12w Tamarikido (3-2) J14e Hokutoiwa (1-4) J11w Kyokunankai (2-3) J10e Bushuyama (3-2) J14w Oga (2-3) J12e Daimanazuru (2-3) J10w Hakuba (3-2) J9e Kobo (1-4) J11e Koryu (3-2) J8w Toyohibiki (2-3) J7w Ryuho (1-4) J6e Tochisakae (3-2) J9w Goeido (5-0) J8e Shunketsu (3-2) J6w Katayama (2-3) J7e Asofuji (2-3) J5w Kitazakura (2-3) J4w Hokutoriki (2-3) J3w Masatsukasa (2-3) J2e Kaiho (3-2) J5e Toyozakura (1-4) J1e Otsukasa (5-0) J3e Ryuo (4-1) J2w Takanowaka (1-4) J1w Hochiyama (1-4) Makuuchi M16e Wakanosato (3-2) M16w Jumonji (3-2) M15e Shimotori (4-1) M15w Tochinohana (1-4) M13e Hakurozan (2-3) J4e Satoyama (5-0) M14e Tochiozan (3-2) M12w Yoshikaze (1-4) M14w Tosanoumi (3-2) M11w Kakuryu (4-1) M9e Aminishiki (2-3) M10e Kasuganishiki (0-5) M12e Ushiomaru (2-3) M9w Tochinonada (3-2) M8e Dejima (3-2) M11e Iwakiyama (2-3) M7e Kokkai (3-2) M10w Tokitsuumi (2-3) M6e Takamisakari (3-2) M8w Tamanoshima (4-1) M5e Homasho (3-2) M6w Kakizoe (3-2) M7w Roho (2-3) M4w Takekaze (2-3) M1e Kisenosato (3-2) M5w Tamakasuga (1-4) M4e Futeno (1-4) M1w Toyonoshima (3-2) K1e Ama (1-4) M3w Kasugao (3-2) K1w Tokitenku (2-3) O3w Tochiazuma (5-0) S1e Kotomitsuki (4-1) O2w Kaio (2-3) O2e Kotooshu (3-2) M2w Asasekiryu (1-4) S1w Kotoshogiku (1-4) O1w Hakuho (4-1) O1e Chiyotaikai (4-1) M3e Miyabiyama (2-3) Y1e Asashoryu (3-2) M2e Kyokutenho (1-4)
aderechelsea Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 today i expected more of a show considering the bouts we had in store, but it was a small let down. Hakuho was again a bit reluctant to finish off a bout going his way, even when he got into hidari-yotsu position. He is winning bad, but at least he is not losing. A good idea in general would be if he quit those useless tsuppari of his. Anyway .... Homasho had an easy day against Kokkai because he could stand his ground during the initial tsuppari attack and then Kokkai got frustrated (as always) and started flying his arms everywhere. This resulted in an opening in his defense (sort of speaking), that Homasho saw and took advantage of. Kokkai is really helpless when he gets frustrated. if i had to pick one performance today as the most exciting, it would be (Surprise !!!) Shirononami in his bout against Kyokunankai. I loved Shiro's move with the shoulder and the elbow to break Nankai's right uwate grip and then oust him out with yorikiri.
Pikenoyama Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 today i expected more of a show considering the bouts we had in store, but it was a small let down. Today I give full credit to Mickeys blitzkrieg against Tenku. I love Mickey in matches like this one :-) . What I hate is that all the time I just have to ask for more (Showing respect...) .
Jakusotsu Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Seasoned veteran Tokitsuumi's splendid footwork and ringsense (is that a word?) against young upstart Tochiozan was a picturebook example of experience prevailing over ambition. Watch how Zoomy is always candidly shifting into center position, never allowing for Ozone to push him out.
Jonosuke Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Jumonji has been always an enigma for me but this basho he is showing really good "genki" as Makoto-kun says. I am more than pleasantly surprised with his good showing. Wakanosato may gradually creep up in ranking but we shouldn't expect his past glory as sekiwake as he lost so much of mojo.
Hananotaka Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Wakanosato may gradually creep up in ranking but we shouldn't expect his past glory as sekiwake as he lost so much of mojo. It pains me to say it, but I have to agree. So far he hasn't really shown that necessary ability to hold his ground against his opponent's charge. Today's match versus Tosanoumi was a good example. He should have stopped Tosa's deashi, and gone for the belt. Instead he retreated, and went with a forced uwate-nage. Not Wakanosato-sumo. (I am not worthy...) We'll be 31 this year, and while there's time for a late renaissance, obviously we've passed his peak. I'm with him till the end, though! When Wakanosato and Homasho match up, I'll be rooting for Wakanosato all the way.
kaiguma Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 (edited) if i had to pick one performance today as the most exciting, it would be (Surprise !!!) Shirononami in his bout against Kyokunankai. I loved Shiro's move with the shoulder and the elbow to break Nankai's right uwate grip and then oust him out with yorikiri. Good call! In general, if I have to call out a 'best technique' moment among each day's sekitori bouts, it would go to a juryo rikishi almost every time. And for me, a lover of good utchari, Shirononami has really impressed with two excellent showings in the first five days. I see a good future for him. (I am not worthy...) And Goeido looks good even when executing a pull-down. This is definitely his seki-breakout basho. Edited March 15, 2007 by kaiguma
