yamaneko Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Personally, unless something else strange happens, i think its asa's tournament to lose, until we see loss number 3. But, lets say that does happen, or lets say you already think hes not going to win this tournament. Who will take it? I figured kotooshu or hakuho, but kotooshu is pretty much out of contention already, barring a run that he hasnt done in almost 2 years. And hakuho, really doesnt look like the dominating guy he was yet, as he was before injury. Kaio looks the worst of the ozeki so far. Chiyotaikai looks strong for him, but i dont think strong enough to win the rest of his bouts. That leaves us with ozeki, with tochiazuma who is looking good so far, but even before his condition was so bad he even had talked intai this basho if he had a certain record after day 5. So im not sure his body can allow him to continue winning every day. If asashoryu doesnt win this basho, its REALLY wide open. I cant think of any favorites at this time.
Fay Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Kakuryu of course. Yes, he could if he wanted to (Laughing...) but he wants to wait until next year and liberally leaves the yusho to Asashoryu, otherwise I would have to buy an expensive flight for the last two days to Osaka ..........
Gernobono Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Tochiazuma, he looked good today... just guessing, but tochiazuma only needs 8 to stay ozeki interesting to see how again the usual news work......the oh-so-genki kaio is 1-3 and the intai-talking tochiazuma is 4-0.......business as usual.... i have to admit that for me there is no other rikishi but asashoryu in sight to win the yusho.....(i would be glad to be wrong)
aderechelsea Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 the oh-so-genki kaio is 1-3 when was Kaio genki? when he had losing records in keiko to practically everyone? the surprize here is Azuma winning but i don't think his bandwagon will reach the final stop (after win no8 he will cool it down a bit) so don't rush just yet to jump on it .... i say it's Asashoryu's yusho with "a sprinkle of Hakuho" (if he wakes up by nakabi) ....

Business as usual. In Hatsu 2006 i also expected, that Tochiazuma will stop after eight wins. Maybe, if he still has a chance for a Yusho after 8 wins, he will take it ?
Andreas Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Tochiazuma, Asashoryu and Hakuho got the best chances, maybe we will get a nice 3-man kettei-sen (throw in Kakuryu to make a 4th). But time will tell. I suspect that Tochiazuma talked about retirement if he doesnt win two out of the first five because he knew he was in good shape so it was impossible to lose that many.

Knowing, that he will definitely win much more than the minimum number and talking of intai otherwise is not very Yokuzuna-like. I personally do not like sandbaggers and even though they are quite common today, Tochiazuma should not have said so (if this is really the case)
Asashosakari Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 the oh-so-genki kaio is 1-3 when was Kaio genki? when he had losing records in keiko to practically everyone? Yeah, he had one decent keiko day against Maegashira opponents, said something like "My body feels as good as it's going to feel nowadays so I guess that's alright", then got thumped by Osh to the tune of 9-3 or so a few days later. Trying to read genkiness into that would be...strange. (I doubt anybody puts stock into keiko reports for guys who are clearly on the way down anyway. I mean, would you believe Chiyotenzan's coming back to Juryo if I told you he dominated the keiko sessions?)
Gusoyama Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Kotomitsuki 3/1 Keep the dream alive, Nishi, keep the dream alive. I'd say more like 10-1. (Laughing...)
AsaMoe Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 My oddsHakuho: even money Asashoryu: 3/2 Tochiazuma 3/1 Kotomitsuki 3/1 Everyone else: No chance No fair chances, i mus say. To win 100 for sure (and assume, that none of the others can win) i still have to pay 133. Fair dealers offer for 107. Looking at the odds right now, it looks like Tochiazuma still has only a small chance. In this day ISP Tochiazuma-Kotomitsuki match 2 third voted against Tochiazuma.
