Doitsuyama Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Asashoryu appeared with a taped elbow today which wasn't necessary as he beat winless Futeno. Tomorrow he'll face Toyonoshima who is still hot, following the 12-3 last basho with a 3-0 start as he sent shin-sekiwake Kotoshogiku to 0-3. Tochiazuma stays undefeated, along with Kotomitsuki, Toyonoshima, Dejima, Kokkai, 21 years old Kakuryu and Shimotori. Shimotori is a surprise here, beating Wakanosato with uwatenage. The former komusubi isn't that old as he will have his 29th birthday on Nakabi - maybe he can revive his career. Kaio was the sole losing ozeki today, falling to 1-2. It was the first win for Tokitenku against Kaio after three losses. Hakuho needed a tori-naoshi to beat Miyabiyama and is 2-1 as are Chiyotaikai and Kotooshu with wins over Kasugao and Takekaze. Tamakasuga is the oldest makuuchi rikishi now as Otsukasa fell to the top of juryo, but Otsukasa is looking to regain that title as he already is 3-0 and still in contention for a third juryo yusho. Satoyama, Goeido and Tamarikido also are 3-0 with eight rikishi at 2-1. -- Doitsuyama Day 3 Juryo J13w Shirononami (2-1) utchari Ms2e Wakanoho (1-1) J12w Tamarikido (3-0) yorikiri J14e Hokutoiwa (1-2) J14w Oga (1-2) katasukashi J11w Kyokunankai (1-2) J13e Takamifuji (1-2) oshidashi J10w Hakuba (2-1) J9w Goeido (3-0) yorikiri J12e Daimanazuru (1-2) J11e Koryu (1-2) uwatedashinage J8w Toyohibiki (1-2) J10e Bushuyama (2-1) yoritaoshi J7w Ryuho (1-2) J9e Kobo (1-2) tsukiotoshi J6w Katayama (2-1) J8e Shunketsu (2-1) tsukiotoshi J6e Tochisakae (1-2) J4w Hokutoriki (2-1) tsukidashi J7e Asofuji (0-3) J4e Satoyama (3-0) yorikiri J5w Kitazakura (1-2) J3e Ryuo (2-1) tsukiotoshi J5e Toyozakura (1-2) J3w Masatsukasa (2-1) tsukiotoshi J1w Hochiyama (1-2) J1e Otsukasa (3-0) oshidashi J2w Takanowaka (0-3) Makuuchi J2e Kaiho (1-2) yorikiri M15w Tochinohana (0-3) M15e Shimotori (3-0) uwatenage M16e Wakanosato (2-1) M14w Tosanoumi (2-1) hikiotoshi M16w Jumonji (1-2) M14e Tochiozan (2-1) yorikiri M12e Ushiomaru (1-2) M11w Kakuryu (3-0) uwatedashinage M13e Hakurozan (1-2) M12w Yoshikaze (1-2) hikiotoshi M10w Tokitsuumi (1-2) M9w Tochinonada (2-1) yorikiri M11e Iwakiyama (1-2) M8e Dejima (3-0) oshidashi M10e Kasuganishiki (0-3) M7e Kokkai (3-0) katasukashi M9e Aminishiki (0-3) M8w Tamanoshima (2-1) sokubiotoshi M6w Kakizoe (2-1) M6e Takamisakari (1-2) hikiotoshi M5w Tamakasuga (1-2) M7w Roho (1-2) shitatehineri M5e Homasho (1-2) M1e Kisenosato (2-1) yorikiri M2e Kyokutenho (0-3) M1w Toyonoshima (3-0) oshidashi S1w Kotoshogiku (0-3) S1e Kotomitsuki (3-0) yorikiri M2w Asasekiryu (0-3) O1w Hakuho (2-1) oshidashi M3e Miyabiyama (1-2) O1e Chiyotaikai (2-1) oshidashi M3w Kasugao (2-1) O3w Tochiazuma (3-0) yoritaoshi K1e Ama (1-2) K1w Tokitenku (2-1) oshidashi O2w Kaio (1-2) O2e Kotooshu (2-1) hatakikomi M4w Takekaze (2-1) Y1e Asashoryu (1-2) yorikiri M4e Futeno (0-3) Day 4 Juryo Ms2w Sakaizawa (2-0) J14w Oga (1-2) J13e Takamifuji (1-2) J14e Hokutoiwa (1-2) J12e Daimanazuru (1-2) J13w Shirononami (2-1) J11e Koryu (1-2) J12w Tamarikido (3-0) J10e Bushuyama (2-1) J11w Kyokunankai (1-2) J9e Kobo (1-2) J10w Hakuba (2-1) J8e Shunketsu (2-1) J9w Goeido (3-0) J7e Asofuji (0-3) J8w Toyohibiki (1-2) J6e Tochisakae (1-2) J7w Ryuho (1-2) J6w Katayama (2-1) J5w Kitazakura (1-2) J4e Satoyama (3-0) J5e Toyozakura (1-2) J3e Ryuo (2-1) J4w Hokutoriki (2-1) J2e Kaiho (1-2) J3w Masatsukasa (2-1) J1e Otsukasa (3-0) J1w Hochiyama (1-2) Makuuchi J2w Takanowaka (0-3) M16w Jumonji (1-2) M14e Tochiozan (2-1) M16e Wakanosato (2-1) M13e Hakurozan (1-2) M15w Tochinohana (0-3) M12e Ushiomaru (1-2) M15e Shimotori (3-0) M14w Tosanoumi (2-1) M12w Yoshikaze (1-2) M10e Kasuganishiki (0-3) M11w Kakuryu (3-0) M11e Iwakiyama (1-2) M10w Tokitsuumi (1-2) M8e Dejima (3-0) M9w Tochinonada (2-1) M7e Kokkai (3-0) M8w Tamanoshima (2-1) M6e Takamisakari (1-2) M7w Roho (1-2) M9e Aminishiki (0-3) M6w Kakizoe (2-1) M4e Futeno (0-3) M5w Tamakasuga (1-2) M5e Homasho (1-2) M4w Takekaze (2-1) M3e Miyabiyama (1-2) M3w Kasugao (2-1) M2w Asasekiryu (0-3) K1w Tokitenku (2-1) O2e Kotooshu (2-1) M2e Kyokutenho (0-3) K1e Ama (1-2) O1w Hakuho (2-1) O1e Chiyotaikai (2-1) M1e Kisenosato (2-1) S1e Kotomitsuki (3-0) O3w Tochiazuma (3-0) S1w Kotoshogiku (0-3) O2w Kaio (1-2) Y1e Asashoryu (1-2) M1w Toyonoshima (3-0)
aderechelsea Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 i guess we are back to normality ... - Asashoryu is winning - Kaio is losing - Kaiho is fighting in Makuuchi - Tochisakae is disappointing - Kobo (either he wins or loses) remains "invisible" only things we need to change is : - Ask the aliens to bring back the real Iwakiyama ... this homunkulus they gave us is not working properly. - Tell Wakanosato that he CANNOT lose to Shimotori when he has morozashi .... ;-)
Asashosakari Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 (edited) - Ask the aliens to bring back the real Iwakiyama ... this homunkulus they gave us is not working properly. I can't say I'm surprised...the guy has had exactly one good tournament in the last year and a half, that being the 10-5 half a year ago (and even that struck me as pretty lucky at the time). Everything else since the end of 2005 has been totally blah. Even when he was still struggling towards 7 or 8 wins near the meatgrinder in early 2006 he looked quite different from the Komusubi-level Iwakiyama from 2004. His results have finally caught up with his current skill level as far I'm concerned, and I wouldn't surprised if he doesn't see another Yokozuna bout for the rest of his career. (And if that sounds harsh, keep in mind I'm a fan of the big lug. ;-) It's pretty sad that he's become so immobile and easy to figure out for his opponents.) Edited March 13, 2007 by Asashosakari
Jakusotsu Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 It's pretty sad that he's become so immobile and easy to figure out for his opponents. Somebody close to him told me he's harbouring a nagging pain in the shoulder for quite some time now. He's obviously not the type to wave his injuries in everyone's face, but it's there.

Somebody close to him told me he's harbouring a nagging pain in the shoulder for quite some time now. He's obviously not the type to wave his injuries in everyone's face, but it's there. Yes, for sure it's injury-related. (But then one could say that for almost everyone.) Shoulder problems would be consistent with his usual helplessness when opponents attack him from the side, I think, which has been his major weakness this past year. He's actually pretty lucky he hasn't succumbed to the more usual "heavy guy whose knees can't carry him anymore" problem of 170+ kg guys. If that ever starts adding to his troubles, it'll be drop-to-Makushita-and-intai within a year, I suspect. He's no spring chicken anyway, just turned 31.
Kaikitsune Makoto Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Comments: Kisenosato defended well against Tenho's grip change today. That was promising. Exactly similar move as Hakuho did against Kise but this time Kise tightened his armpit and didn't let Tenho get into morozashi. Then good finish from right hand outside grip. Now Kise is 3-1 in last 4 bouts against Tenho. Another difficult foe left behind in head to head. Tochiozan had another solid bout with good power and pivot from right hand outside grip and off went Ushiomary. Every bout is an adventure. Homasho vs Roho was entertaining. Beefy sumo that ended in anticlimax when Homasho fell on his own. Kasugao didn't lose by tsukitaoshi :-D Tochiazuma was calm and sharp. Ama showed once again why he is such a valuable sanyaku rikishi. Valiant. Azuma looks genki enough. Hasn't been fully tested yet though. Body seems to move well and seems intact. In juryo Goeido continues his power-yotsu and is now 3-0 against yotsu-rikishi. Promising. Toyohibiki is genki but footing was off today for the second day in a row. He'll be back though. Wakanosato losing like that is a definite sign of diminished power. He will have a tough bout tomorrow against Tochiozan who has beaten him twice in a row without much effort. Tomorrow some good bouts again! Second half is full of them and Tochiozan-Wakanosato, Roho-Sakke on first half are pearls. Roho-Sakke is usually a muscle duel which looks strenuous. Kokkai-Tamanoshima too. Kokkai looks good. Oh and speaking of genki rikishi, Onoe sure has a bunch of those. Shirononami's utchari was classic and Sakaizawa makes impressions in makushita. Satoyama is 3-0 with strong sumo.
Tikozan Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Day 4Ms2w Sakaizawa (2-0) J14w Oga (1-2) ... and Sakaizawa is still on the way up. In this tournament he beats the former Maegashira Buyuzan and the former Juryo Mokonami. Now his career record ist 35-2 Let's see what he can do tomorrow against Oga. His third victory in this basho?
