kaiguma Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 (edited) Day 3. Up with video at 13:31 JST. For now, audio is limited to an obnoxious solid tone. Probably in last 1/2 of sandanme. Not getting any names. (In jonokuchi...) :-D (Sign of approval...) Edit: Best guess is that they started in the last 5 or 10 of Sandanme with video (but no audio) for all of makushita. Sound started with Daishoyama v. Wakatoba, but it's still fabulous to see the earlier bouts! [Edit: sorry, misunderstood your edit, Asojima] Edited March 13, 2007 by kaiguma
Asashosakari Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 (edited) Got a chance to record/view the stream for the first time today, and I'm pretty disappointed...I don't think it's ever been this blurry before, really hard to watch for any length of time. Granted, the image quality was never the greatest, but the blocky image artifacts from before were much easier on the eyes than the new wobbly ones, IMO. Edit: And comparing it to older stream captures, the main difference seems to be in moving pictures...nearly static scenes like a shikiri don't look much different in quality. I doubt it's just the drop from 80 kbit to 72 kbit... Edited March 13, 2007 by Asashosakari

I don't know if you've seen the stream today, but at least on my computer (which is from the Ming dynasty) the quality of the stream was like in previous basho (blurry, but functional) and distinctly unlike the previous days (which were crisp, but with lots of freezes). But since it seemed that yesterday I was the only one having problems with the stream I did not dare to mention the change in quality today since I thought it might have been on my end only. :-)

I didn't catch any of the first two days. Definitely still more blurry than in previous basho though in my opinion, at least once you increase the picture size to something viewable like 400%. (Just compare today's two cuts by Doitsuyama to Kyushu Day 11, for example.)
Kintamayama Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 I think they are experimenting. Today was definitely totally different from the last two. On my comp at least, the last two days had a larger screen (and no, I didn't touch anything..) and it even seemed like the format was a 16/9 clone. Audio-wise, it was excellent the first two days (sounded to me like stereo, but what do I know..), but back to the basics today. Today's video was back to the usual fuzzy wuzzy that we so love.

Kintamayama Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Not like this though, right? No, as you can see that's in the usual 4/3 format. Mine was 16/9.

aderechelsea Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 there's something weird going on with the stream ... one views it blurry, another in 16/9 format, a third has many pauses, etc .... For me the stream was the same in all the 3 days and was more or less the same as the one in previous bashos. Only thing different i noticed was the sound on day 1 being better than usual. On days 2 and 3 it was a bit worse but still better than last basho. The quality of the picture was always the same .... :-)
Asojima Posted March 14, 2007 Author Posted March 14, 2007 (edited) Day 4. Up with video by 13:30 JST. Again, starting with audio limited to an obnoxious solid tone. :-) Edit: Covered almost all of makushita with the cameraman taking a few breaks with the camera pointed away from the action. Again, no audio until the last five makushita matches. With no sound and occasional video breaks, it is difficult tracking which match is being fought. But still better than nothing. Asojima Posted March 15, 2007 Author Posted March 15, 2007 (edited) Day 5: Up with both audio and Video at 12:45 JST. That is almost an hour earlier! Edit: Started with about 15 Sandanme to go. High quality sound again. Video better. Caught the maezumo presentation! Sound off at about 13:10. getting solid tone. Edit: Most of Makushita done with no audio and a long cheap seats shot of the dohyo. Sound on and normal coverage resumed during Juryo dohyo-iri as on previous days Edited March 15, 2007 by Asojima

Asojima Posted March 16, 2007 Author Posted March 16, 2007 (edited) Day 6: Active at 13:35. Video with steady tone on audio. Edit: No audio until after Juryo Dohyo-iri. Long range video for all be the first 8-10 makushita matches. Coverage started very near the first MS match. Edited March 16, 2007 by Asojima
kaiguma Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 (edited) FEED ME, SEYMORE, FEED ME! Even with no sound, I was able to identify the current match quite easily - it's the Amurous Russian at Ms56 as of 13:40. Oops, missed the result; now it is: W-ms53 Toyohikari (1-1) vs W-ms51 Fukunaga (1-1) as of 13:44. [EDIT] Okay then, too slow: E-ms52 Ryukiyama (0-2) vs W-ms50 Kotonomine (0-2) as of 13:45.
