Asojima Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 (edited) The new streamer is active as of 13:20 JST! Way down in the lower ranks. Not sure where yet. (Showing respect...) :-D (Sign of approval...) Edit: No idea what time it started, but I found it active for at least the last 10 matches in Sandanme. Edited March 12, 2007 by Asojima

sekihiryu Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 hmm just looed out of curiosity - for the past 5 mins the camera has been pointed at the tsuri-yane or around the arena - looks like my son has gotten into the control room and is playing with the cameras!

Cameraman returned from his break at 14:03. Only doing long shots now.
Kintamayama Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 (edited) Excellent. Note:From past experience , it is back luck to complain about cameramen problems and their strange decisions prior to showtime. Usually from the next day on the feed consists of the last bout of Juryo and onwards. Let's stick to optimism and be thankful for what we get. That goes for the sumogames server as well.. yamaneko Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Yeah, last time i saw makushita bouts on the stream, it was the first and last time...when they were testing something out.

That goes for the sumogames sever as well.. this is not truth .... the feed started early because i was sleeping untill mid-juryo. Tomorrow that i will wake up to watch Sandanme, we'll get to see Makuuchi if we're lucky. it the same "luck" that makes all my adopted rikishi go kyujo as soon as i mention them in my signature. :-D (Showing respect...) Oikeassa Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Is there some "secret" to the new feed? I try to connect, get the japanese characters in the bottom left corner of WMP, but then get the network error that "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because a network error occurred. The server might not be available. Verify that you are connected to the network and that your proxy settings are correct." Is it already overloaded--I've been trying and getting the same error message since 3:00 JST. Thanks to any experts out there who can help!

If you are using Windows Media Player version 11, it may not be compatible with the streamer. Discovered this last basho. Options seem to be revert to WPM10 using backout, use Classic Media Player or use VLC. See the discussion here .

What version of WMP do you have? Have you tried entering with Media player Classic or VLC? I'm pretty sure the new format allows for many more connections. I haven't tried, but I have a feeling you can join any time now. Has someone seen the "server is full" sign?
Oikeassa Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Thanks to both of you for the quick replies. Problem not solved, but dealt with: The stream does NOT work with WMP11, but I acessed the stream on the first attempt with another computer using WMP9. Thanks again, Asojima and Kintamayama.

The stream works perfectly with WMP 11 for me. You just have to use the http://sumo.goo.ne.jp/hon_basho/torikumi/e...sx/sumolive.asx url. No problems. Edited March 12, 2007 by Kintamayama
Randomitsuki Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Am I the only one who experienced the laggiest, shakiest stream ever? I use WMP 9, and I have so many video (and sometimes audio) freezes that I could watch less than a third of the bouts. In earlier times I had sometimes short freezes in musubi-no-ichiban or the Takamisakari bouts, but today it's a collection of stills for the most parts...
aderechelsea Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 it was smooth for me, all day .... WMP9 for me too.

Have you been using the Kyokai URL or the other one? It has been totally perfect in every respect here.
Randomitsuki Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Have you been using the Kyokai URL or the other one? It has been totally perfect in every respect here. Not quite sure which one you are referring to. The laggy one is the mms://bpsw00etcblahblah that's posted as "new" stream on top of the Forum links. Then I tried the one you've posted (asx). It crashed my computer in the first try, and brought up a black frame and no audio in the second try.

You probably tried that..
Tikozan Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 ;-) Great stream, and I had no problems with Mediaplayer 11.
Asojima Posted March 12, 2007 Author Posted March 12, 2007 Have you been using the Kyokai URL or the other one? It has been totally perfect in every respect here. I started with the mss link, but got a couple video lockups during makuuchi. Switched to the NSK .asx link after the second lockup. No problem on the .asx connection. Video quality was higher on the mss link. Audio was good on both links. I am using WMP10.
Sakana Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Randomitsuki, yesterday, with mms://........ you mentionned, I had a bad sound and video, but today it was clean on the two points. I think it has something to see with the bandwith when we connect (in the last seat or not ;-))

Customary link to my own fix/magic incantation to deal with frequent freezes. (As you can tell, I have no idea if it'll work, but it can't hurt trying.) That doesn't make any sense to me. Unless they've changed something since last basho, the .asx link is simply a wrapper that redirects to the bpsw00 mms feed. Edited March 12, 2007 by Asashosakari

Unless they've changed something since last basho, the .asx link is simply a wrapper that redirects to the bpsw00 mms feed. Yes, but strangely enough, the .asx link is more stable by far. The sound is also better. As for the quality, I found it better than the mms feed. It could be some filter on the way, but in the Middle East, there is a definite difference between the two. I had them both open for a short while.

I can only speculate that it makes a difference whether the mms URL is passed from browser to media player, or entered into the player directly. ;-) At any rate, this is the entire content of the asx file: <ASX version="3.0"> <Entry> <Ref href="mms://bpsw00.goo.ne.jp/sumolive" /> </Entry> </ASX>
Asojima Posted March 13, 2007 Author Posted March 13, 2007 (edited) Day 3. Up with video at 13:31 JST. For now, audio is limited to an obnoxious solid tone. Probably in last 1/2 of sandanme. Not getting any names. (In jonokuchi...) :-D (Sign of approval...) Edit: Best guess is that they started in the last 5 or 10 of Sandanme with video (but no audio) for all of makushita. Started audio after Juryo dohyo-iri for last 5 Makushita. Edited March 13, 2007 by Asojima
