aderechelsea Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 so the shusshin for Nakamura is actually "Phillipines"? ..... Doesn't that make him another foreigner for Miyagino ?
Shibouyama Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 I'd be so happy if I only could find a shindeshi from Tottori-ken. The only prefecture with no rikishi and this is where I live.
Doitsuyama Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 so the shusshin for Nakamura is actually "Phillipines"? ..... Doesn't that make him another foreigner for Miyagino ? The data on the rather hidden database pages from the NSK site surely should be seen as totally unofficial. Changes, especially shusshin changes until they appear on the banzuke for the first time (which will be next basho if they appear in mae-zumo) are quite normal.

Changes, especially shusshin changes until they appear on the banzuke for the first time (which will be next basho if they appear in mae-zumo) are quite normal. I think they usually make those changes to the database right after the shindeshi-shusse presentation(s)...so we'll know sometime next week.
Asashosakari Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 (edited) Buncha aggregated stats... Shindeshi by birth year: 1984 - 3 1985 - 1 1986 - 1 1987 - 0 1988 - 7 1989 - 6 1990 - 4 1991 - 40 1992 - 11 Fewer collegiate rikishi than last year, when there were 9 (without a Makushita tsukedashi, even). And there are almost as many middle-school shindeshi this year as there were total shindeshi last year, which looks quite encouraging. aderechelsea Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 interesting stats .... thanks a lot. Onokuni is not doing much of a recruitment for Shibatayama beya. Only one new rikishi to add in his little stable. Hmmm .... Daiyubu isn't doing any hard keiko.
Doitsuyama Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Where is the hidden kyokai page where I can access all this in Japanese? Its's here: http://sumo.goo.ne.jp/ozumo_meikan/rikishi...ishi.php?A=3038 3038 is the last number for now. Work your way back to 2966 to get the original info for all 73 new deshi (and further for more rikishi of course). Actually, you might have some new website in the near future where you can access that info more easily. :-(
Yuriyama Ren Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 (edited) Hmmm.. I dug around the archives a bit and managed to assemble the following table: Hatsu Haru Natsu Nagoya Aki Kyushu Total 2007873 2006759111368720051470115851132004257713367131Looks like 2007 will recruitment wise be better year than 2006, we\'re just 6 shindeshi short with 4 bashos to go.. But is there a site with bit more statistics? I\'m curious as to what the numbers looked like before 2004.. Edit: Fixed Natsu 2004 Edited March 11, 2007 by Yuriyama Ren
Asashosakari Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 (edited) Adding 2002 and 2003...prior to that the Kyokai database isn't complete, so I don't have those either. Hatsu Haru Natsu Nagoya Aki Kyushu Total 2003 14 62 20 4 3 11 114 2002 9 49 17 6 6 4 91 Natsu 2004 should be 13, BTW. Edited March 11, 2007 by Asashosakari

Yuriyama Ren Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Ah.. Yes that's exactly it. Thank you both Asashosakari, Doitsuyama.
Asashosakari Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Hmm, time to hit the Delete button on my post. (Whistling...) (Back to Hatsu 1988 now? Interesting. :-))
Doitsuyama Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 (Back to Hatsu 1988 now? Interesting. (Whistling...)) No, not really. But I have the Hatsu-dohyo for all rikishi in 1988.07. Ok, I am missing all rikishi who had Hatsu-dohyo in 1988 and disappered from the banzuke forever before Nagoya. Can't be many.
Yuriyama Ren Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Well, few hours ago I was about to post an energetic reply to this thread about how nice the 73 fold increase in the number of shindeshi compared to Nagoya 2006 was but now after reading the statistics of the past 20 years I've kinda lost the enthusiasm. The number of recruits has been pretty much constant for the past 10 years (with few ups and downs). Seems only 92 - 96 were a more active period..
Fay Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Maezumo started yesterday and all Tomozuna shindeshi won their bouts!
Andreas Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 (edited) It seems that tomozuna beya is looking more actively for a replacement for Kaiou. I wish them good luck... Edit: and Tamanoi beya also got two recruits with promising size, looking for the next heyagashira? Edited March 14, 2007 by Andreas
Asashosakari Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 (edited) The first group of shindeshi was presented today. 16 rikishi won two bouts within their first two days of competition (they're not necessarily 2-0, though), and in order of presentation they are: Sakamoto, Tagonoura-beya Morishita, Tokitsukaze-beya Kainomiya (Kogure Sadahiro), Tomozuna-beya Hisayama, Kataonami-beya Shiratsuka, Kise-beya Terashita, Onomatsu-beya Takanomiya (Kogure Masahiro), Takashima-beya Wakaryuma (Hirose), Onomatsu-beya Ota, Sakaigawa-beya Mise, Tamanoi-beya Kotokashiwadani (Kashiwadani), Sadogatake-beya Hokazan (Fujita), Miyagino-beya Kotetsu (Sano), Hanaregoma-beya Kita, Chiganoura-beya Aiyama, Kitanoumi-beya Fukamachi, Onomatsu-beya Ichiban-shusse video Edit: Updated video link to better-quality version by sekihiryu. They look like a buch of strong lads! Very well-proportioned, lots of muscular shoulders up on the dohyo. Any idea who is the oldest among this group, and how many are only 15? EDIT: Sorry, first question was pretty easy. Shiratsuka and Terashita will bith turn 23 in a couple of months, with Terashita about 1 week older. So I guess Shiratsuka isn't much of a 'growing boy' anymore. He's already one of the three heaviest of the whole bunch. I guess as long as they keep feeding him, though . . .
