Couple questions...

For a country to have a guy/gal there, do they need a complete team? Light/middle/heavy/open? Or if there is only 1 heavyweight for example, can they enter?

What is the age limit? Is it under 18 by Jan1 of this year, or something like that?

What are the weight categories for light/heavy/middle for boys and girls at the world junior level?

Thanks.

You don't have to enter a team. Individuals can enter separate weight classes, but no more than one from each country in each weight class. Also, individual competitors don't have to be in the team competition, and vice versa.

The weight categories are:

Lightweight - under 75kg

Middleweight - under 100kg

Heavyweight - over 100kg

Openweight - unrestricted

The age is under 18, but I'm not sure of the exact date which they take (it might well be 1 Jan, or it might be the date of each touranment or by the date of registration, I can't remember).

All of these things are explained clearly in the registration information that will be sent to your national federation.

Going from information from Estonia last year:

Lightweight is - 80kg not -75kg

and 18 year olds are allowed to compete. it is the year of birth that is taken into account.

so juniors this year must be born in 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993 or 1994.

This is based on what was "legal" last year in rakvere,

ISF will send exact details later this year.

Unfortunatly up til now junior girls did not compete.

Don't know if this is going to change as Swiss Fed has asked ISF if it was possible to organise 1st junior women's world championship. (Olympic Spirit obliges)

I can remember hearing( not word of mouth) that it would be considered including a young womens event after the 10th SJWC for young men, many countries have been requesting its inclusion for years.

BTW CH - rikishi the T shirt still looks and feels good.

If junior women were allowed to compete in world championships, what would the weight categories be?

Hmmm, never been done before so it is difficult to say. The IFS might use the European standards that they have set for their kadets and juniors in the women's divisions. I don't know what these are but kenzo should. In Japan they have under and over 60kg (from memory) for their "junior girls" but that is only for junior high school students (roughly 13-15 year olds) as they classify senior high school students as adults in Japanese shinsumo.
