Kintamayama Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 (edited) Asashouryuu won the one day tournament for the second straight time, and for the third overall time, netting the 2,500,000 yen purse. He beat Tochiazuma by tsuridashi in the semis and beat his do-beya Asasekiryuu by yorikiri in the finals. Hakuhou was beaten in the semis by Asasekiryuu, Chiyotaikai went out in the third round, and KaioU and Osh both were eliminated in the second round, which was actually their first match. In Juryo, Oga won the tournament, completing a total sweep by the Takasago boys. In an interview later, Asa said: "I have forgotten all the unpleasant stuff..". Asasekiryuu: "I don't care if he's my senpai in the heya.. On the dohyo, I'm a devil". All Makushita and under from Takasago will be going on a trip to Thailand tomorrow. "Great way to spend the prize money. I'll just give them some expense money!", said the Yokozuna. Edited February 4, 2007 by Kintamayama

yamaneko Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Did wakanoho get to participate in the juryo one?
ilovesumo Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Yes, Wakanoho was there-until the Banzuke is out, he is Sekitori. I'll give a report later, now is work time- but it was absolutely amazing even that the bouts were hollywood stuff. ;-)
Phoenix Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 For the first time I got to go and watch sumo in person! ;-) I really enjoyed watching the children fight Tochiazuma and Kotooshu! Some of the littler ones only came up to their Mawashi. The whole day was great, but I have to say I miss the instant replay of TV. Still they look much bigger in person than on TV.

Must have been a lot of fun... How was the Asasekiryu / Hakuho match, btw ? I love to see Asasekiryu fight, although he often flies under the radar. But Hakuho ? Not half bad. And ashitori ?!?!
Otokonoyama Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Yes, Wakanoho was there-until the Banzuke is out, he is Sekitori.I'll give a report later, now is work time- but it was absolutely amazing even that the bouts were hollywood stuff. ;-) Thought I saw you & maybe Nishi-san on TV...y'all were there, right? Anyone else from SF?

Petr Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 They write only that Ossetian World Champion Alan Gabaraev will be in Jonokuchi next basho and that he has already demostrated his strenght by winning 2 out of 5 bouts previous basho.

Your logic defies logic which is never good, not even in Israel. 2 out of 5 is better than 5 out of 15. King of the world is better than "demostrating strength" so please withdraw your statement before further actions will be taken. Options for further actions are: 1. Embassy contact of serious kind 2. Call to Israeli musician hiring parties to in order to get you sacked 3. Contacting your manager and telling him you are crucifiying his reputation with your public immoral activities

Gernobono Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 I think the tabloids might be right....alomost all bouts yesterday looked like yaocho. i guess they are not worth the yaocho, if someone sees it..... so maybe making it look like fixed, makes them even more serious , because, you know.....if it would be fixed, they would never let you know...... (Bomb about to be blown...)
ilovesumo Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 I went there early in the morning to get tickets...and waited and waited and waited...when they startet selling them at 10, I had 12 people waiting behind me... (Blushing...) but what, I was the first in a row...even a small one....goood feeling (in reality I felt embarrased). Later my friend came and we went in and settled down in a box not to near the dohyo, but it wasn't full so it happened that we could stay there for all the time. But people left before the finals, so we could go down a bit and came near the dohyo. When the Juryo Dohyo iri happened, the Honbasho feeling was back... :-) Later at Makuuchi, they were so many guys in the Ring-some had to stand INTO the circle! I dunno how that could happen, I think the west group was just bigger then the east group? That was one of 3 "hidden" jokes I noticed. Number 2 was, that Roho was landing at Takamisakari getting into the position (while falling) of strangling him. And this position was staying for at least 5 seconds. :-) Number 3, the Gyoji stopped the bout of Hakuho versus Kokkai, Hakuho's first bout, to fix his Mawashi. But Roho had his hand on Hakuho's Mawashi knot again and again and the Gyoji took his hand and moved it away (Laughing...) Many guys like Kotomitsuki played their bouts without the usual bandages. I had to look twice cause I just saw him from behind-these ellbow bandages are part of the Kotomitsuki picture burned into my brain... Also most of them had their weird Mawashi. Like Miyabiyama the awsome orange one he never wears, or Ama in violet. Oitekaze finally back as Shinpan!? I have never seen him as shinpan, not in Aki Basho nor in Hatsu Basho. Koryu had his birthday yesterday Lucky Oga was allowed to win After the Juryo Yusho winner was crowned, I expected Hokutoriki to win cause he looked very sereous in the plays, these 2 entered the Dohyo. Oh it was fun. I can't write down all of what they sayd, but one of the first comment of the japanese "Who's gonna be a Millionair"-moderator was "So many good looking people here!"- so he got the crowd. This guy is cool. (Nodding yes...) And a smart Fujishima Oyakata always having the right portion of irony to give back to the jokes of the other guy. It was so funny...and this guy made a joke about the Yaocho scandal also........ooooooooh I was shocked but it was a good one-I am sure Shoryu liked it. Cool: "So, who will fight with the kids?" Fujishima Oyakata: "Tochiazuma zeki and Kotooshu zeki" Cool: "Kawaiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" (cute) Tochiazuma and Kotooshu had to fight with foreign Kids and the coolest of all japanese moderators was commentig it. The first laughter was when the kids didn't understand the comment "rei" - bow! just 1/3 of them did the first time. Then little groups of them had to fight the Ozeki. Next group was + one kid and so on. One of the boys had a bit long hair, so the japanese G
Kaikitsune Makoto Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 I think the tabloids might be right....alomost all bouts yesterday looked like yaocho. (Bomb about to be blown...) And what even strengthens the tabloids' view is that the young and nai'ive Kisenosato was as gachinko as they get based on reports. I bet Dejima had steam coming out of his orifices too.
Fay Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Thanks for the report and the pics Verena :-) (Bomb about to be blown...) . . . Noooooooo, I am not jealous, noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo (Sign of approval...)

Gacktoh Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 the people sitting beside just looking at me like "Eeeeh? She can understand?" then they gave me a japanese cracker (maybe to make me shut up while chewing?!) :-) Thank you for uploding nice photos. I am happy for you to spend good time there with other sumo fans. (Bomb about to be blown...)
