Fay Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 The new japanese hope Ichihara had his first fight today and won quite convincingly against Yakigaya from Onomatsu Beya.
Gusoyama Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 In ilovesumo's video(thank you thank you thank you!!!) He looked a little slow at tachiai, but he was very solid, and worked hard to get the win.
aderechelsea Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 he was probably overcautious. He looks good though and it would be nice if he became a sekitori next basho.
ilovesumo Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 Guess all the Ichihara stuff should be here for a longtime tread. (I am not worthy...) VIDEO of his first bout. (Clapping wildly...)
Naganoyama Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 He needs to work on his shiko. His balance would benefit.
Fay Posted January 10, 2007 Author Posted January 10, 2007 Day 4 and second bout for Ichihara, today against Buyuzan, he won, 2-0
Asashosakari Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 Amazing that nobody has posted it yet - Ichihara went to 3-0 with an okuridashi win over ex-Juryo Wakakirin today.
Asojima Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 He took out Wakakirin on day 5. Starting to look interesting.
aderechelsea Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 and you decided to post this simoultaneously ..... ;-) ok let me say it again ... he is now 3-0 after beating Wakakirin.
Fay Posted January 11, 2007 Author Posted January 11, 2007 As already was said, Ichihara won against Wakakirin in todays bout - 3-0 I think a video from Verena will follow later. So here are the usual pics:
Ginkgo Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 As already was said, Ichihara won against Wakakirin in todays bout - 3-0I think a video from Verena will follow later. So here are the usual pics: Younger brother of Iwakiyama or just the same type of wall-crash? Ginkgo
sekihiryu Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 The banzuke.com video will show a slow motion replay for all you Ichihara fans, he has "healthy swagger" about him - The John Wayne of Sumo
aderechelsea Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 After beating Buy12uzan if i am not seing things this is one of your best ever.
kaiguma Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 (edited) After beating Buy12uzan if i am not seing things this is one of your best ever. What does a dozen uzan go for these days? Edited January 11, 2007 by kaiguma
Kintamayama Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 After beating Buy12uzan if i am not seing things this is one of your best ever. Well, I'm glad it did not fall on deaf ears..
Kotoku Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 With a bod like that, he gets to Juryo, maybe low Maigashira, tops... YMMV
Jonosuke Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Just seeing Verena's video again and again, I am becoming more and more impressed. He is big so he certainly has a dohyo presence but he possesses a poise of sekitori already. Wakakirin did everything but to throw a kitchen sink at him yesterday and he looked like he was bothered by a fly or something. This guy is for real. And he will improve each time he gets on the dohyo. It will be almost scary. He could bazooka up the banzuke like Musoyama, soon to be known as the Monster from Nichi-dai or something.
Petr Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 He needs to work on his shiko. His balance would benefit. you're funny
yamaneko Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Still dont know how aran, who is having a heck of a time in maezumo could beat him twice in the worlds, if aran is so bad, and ichihara is so good.

Who says Aran is bad? If we hypothesize that both he and the three other hyped maezumo guys are at least of mid-Makushita strength already, 2-3 is a perfectly fine record considering that these guys have a lot more competitive experience than him simply because there are a lot more tournaments for amateurs in Japan.

That, and a major psychological disadvantage perhaps. At Worlds he was backed up by his team and all out to give "those Japanese" a beating. That attitude is definitely missing in the current situation where he's all alone by himself in a foreign world and needs to adapt to "those Japanese" rather than annoying them.
