Fukurou Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 (edited) The NSK website now shows the absences for Day 1 for Makuuchi and Juryo. Assuming things go as usual, absences in the other divisions will be added to the website in the next 12-48 hours.... The only sekitori rikishi announced as being absent on Day 1 is: Ozeki West 2 HAKUHO. Edited November 12, 2006 by Fukurou
SonofCyrus Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Smartest decision I have seen in a while.
Fukurou Posted November 10, 2006 Author Posted November 10, 2006 And Baruto should follow... If his knee was really as bad as it was said, he should follow, but I have this sneaking suspicion that he's going to give it a go.
Fukurou Posted November 11, 2006 Author Posted November 11, 2006 (edited) The Day 1 absences from the non-sekitori divisions have been posted on the NSK website. Asashosakari Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 (edited) Thanks, Fukurou! Makushita East 28 TAKAHAMAMakushita West 39 HARUNOYAMA Sandanme West 8 ICHINOTANI I smell intai from these.. I do for Harunoyama, Ichinotani, and Dewanofuji down in Jonidan. I think Takahama will (in vain, IMHO) continue to try to get his final five sekitori basho together to qualify for a toshiyori, after all he's still just 30 years old. Unless this kyujo is a sign of a really bad injury, of course. Edit: Hakutoarashi should be Hokutoarashi and Ochinoumi should be Osanoumi, btw. Edited November 11, 2006 by Asashosakari
aderechelsea Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 (edited) well ... things get better and better .... Kaiho in Juryo Hakuho kyujo Asashoryu with questionable keiko Chiyonoshima kyujo Azumi kyujo Sekitori Quadrumvirate not working (Holiday feeling...) and the list is getting longer and longer day by day Edited November 11, 2006 by aderechelsea

aderechelsea Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 i don't care about that .... (Holiday feeling...)
Fukurou Posted November 11, 2006 Author Posted November 11, 2006 Thanks, Fukurou! You're welcome (Holiday feeling...) Makushita East 28 TAKAHAMA Makushita West 39 HARUNOYAMA Sandanme West 8 ICHINOTANI I smell intai from these.. I was thinking intai for all four of them. Even if he got those five sekitori basho, does Takahama even have a shot at getting a toshiyori share? (or am I confusing my shares, and a toshiyori is automatic?) Edit: Hakutoarashi should be Hokutoarashi and Ochinoumi should be Osanoumi, btw. Thank you for the corrections.
Asashosakari Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 I was thinking intai for all four of them. Even if he got those five sekitori basho, does Takahama even have a shot at getting a toshiyori share? As long as they put together 30 sekitori basho, everyone has a realistic shot at getting one. It's all just a matter of the relative availability of shares (whether for borrowing or buying), and finding the money (in the case of buying). (or am I confusing my shares, and a toshiyori is automatic?) Jun-toshiyori is the automatic one (good for one year after retirement, if the rikishi qualifies), providing that at least one of the five spots is available. Since I've unwittingly managed to hijack the thread anyway...I'm really wondering why we haven't heard anything about Gojoro yet. His jun-toshiyori spot expires this week, and there's even a perfect toshiyori available for borrowing (Oshiogawa...same ichimon, and not even owned by an active rikishi, hence little danger of it being pulled back unexpectedly), so I'm quite confused by the lack of any positive announcement. I guess he's not gonna stick around Ozumo...
Fukurou Posted November 12, 2006 Author Posted November 12, 2006 The only rikishi who did not appear for his Day 1 match was Jonidan West 54 OOMIYAMOTO Jonidan East 55 KOTONARITA was the receipient of the automatic win.
Manekineko Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Isegahama-beya thread split and moved to Ozumo Discussions.
Asashosakari Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 The only rikishi who did not appear for his Day 1 match wasJonidan West 54 OOMIYAMOTO He apparently did not go kyujo as has now competed on Day 4 and won.

I haven't checked for day 4 no-shows or day 5 withdrawals yet, but the most recent kyujo was Jonidan East 100 FUJIAZUMA (0-1) on Day 3. There's a picture of him in one of the recent Tamanoi Blogs. I think it said he'd sprained an ankle or something.
Naganoyama Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Might make sense to change the Topic Title to 'Absences' (if you want to use it every day). N
Fay Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 And our lost son Omiyamoto had his second win today (Neener, neener...)
