ilovesumo Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 (edited) That was fun...I thought Danpatsu Shiki are only sad, but I had tears of laugh and tears of "that's it for him"... Let me describe a bit :-) I went there at 8 in the morning cause I had no idea how many "freaks" would wait for tickets. Until 10:30, just a few more came, so I got mine with ease...(Blushing...) (Whistling...) Wakanoyama and his wife stood there at the blooming entrance of the Kokugikan, everybody had to pass them. Beside his Oyakata and Okamisan. I just felt my heart rushing...the same as usual, Rikishi/Oyakata near- :-O , let's run away... (Bye, bye...) but no chance, the active Musashigawa Sekitori stood at the other side, giving autographes, smiling... I just saw Buyuzan, I am a big fan of, knowing about his result and fall down to Makushita, I had the first :-)...so I shit myself and just ran into the hall, searching for my seat... (Blushing...) It was just amazing... (Nodding yes...) starting like the Dohyo Matsuri with drumming the little one, climbing up the Dohyo and singing what will be today+ the Shikona of Rikishi taking part. Then 10 Makushita Rikishi (including Shibuya and Tochinoyama) came in and had to fight, each of them had 2 bouts. No fun sumo yet, but everybody could see they didn't fight real bouts. Dunno what was wrong with Shibuya, he couldn't stop smiling. Now a group including Kitazakura came and sang a jinku. It was 15 minutes long and I can tell you, WOAH! They have great voices! :-( Amazing! They sang about Wakanoyama's life, that is what I catched, my Japanese is still... (Whistling...) After that 15 minutes of Hanazumo (fun Sumo), hope I can get the video uploaded...I died of (Laughing...) . Musashigawa's Musashiryu and some other guy performed something great...hihihi (Sign of approval) . Both had an O icho, that was interesting... They had a kind of fight "how to do good Sumo". Spit chikara mizu in their faces, had a dance and so on... Kakizoe played model and he + Musashigawa's first Tokoyama (Tokoken) showed how to do an O icho. Zoe was in a funny mood...had interactings with a fan snapping him. Too funny... Now the Juryo Dohyo iri. I had no Idea how a Danpatsu Shiki works (I mean beside the Mage snipp), so I was surprised to see some faces (and bandaged legs). The crowd went wild, seeing Buyuzan, cause he will be Makushita in Kyushu as I mentioned before. Same group was Kaiho... (Tears forming...) damn damn damn injuries... So 2 Shinpan came in and the Juryo Rikishi "played" their bouts like the Makushita Rikishi, but each of them had only one bout. The winner was clear before stepping on the Dohyo I am sure. So it happened that Buyuzan had to fight Kaiho and won. He was about to cry...that was a feeling looking at him. *sniff*. Like a good bye, he could be the next...Maybe he had that in his mind. (Tears forming...) Kaiho just went out, but he was moved too. After it the hairsnipping started. Wakanoyama came in, hardly able to hold his mimic. His Koenkai head held a speech, then guys out of economy and TV came to snipp the hair for one hour. The important people were just Asashoryu, Miyabiyama, Kaio, Chiyotaikai, Tochiazuma, Takanohana, Kitanoumi, Wakanoyama's son, Father and Shisho ...did I miss somebody...guess not. No Musashimaru was seen... (Shaking head...) So I wondered, that's it now? NO! (Sign of approval) The drummer-yobidashi came and drummed at the Dohyo, then the Makkuuchi division had Dohyo iri, the Musashigawa guys with little kids in Kesho Mawashis. Dejima lifted the kid and it was nude...oops (Whistling...) ...Kakizoe was kinda in love with his little fellow, just see the cute pictures. :-) They fought same way the Juryo did, winner/looser was clear before the bout, but it was fun to watch them. So many smiles near the Dohyo... versus Shoryu made a real show out of it. He had to fight Hakuho. The Ozeki tried first to look uninterested sitting at the Dohyo, but he had to smile too, when the whole hause laughed about something goofy Taikai did. (No bout of Kaio for sure) . Shoryu was at the edge, staring at the crowd like before his usual bouts. He had salt in his hand and gave little portions of it down the Dohyo...funny (Laughing...) , same was his face...i wonder why Hakuho didn't laugh all out...I mean...in that situation... (Laughing...) (Happy goodbyes...) (Laughing...) Shoryu rox! (Punk rocker...) See his leg we discussed before...ouch... In the end this Takanohana guy tried the Yumitori shiki...made a mistake and had to grin... Oga...please stay (Laughing...) . The Kokugikan speaker said, "usually Oga is doing the Yumitori Shiki...", so I guess and hope he will not stop doing it So, that was it...just amazing... (Nodding yes...) (Bye, bye...) Chiyomaru Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 Interesting reading! Nice report! :-( Thank you ilovesumo! Now I have a better idea what takes place during a danpatsu shiki. What was the goofy thing Taikai did?

Yubiquitoyama Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Thanks, great report and pics! One question though (to anyone who might be able to answer). If I understood you correctly neither Fujishima (Musouyama) nor Musashimaru was there. I haven't contemplated it before, but it struck me that I can't recall lesser oyakata (being mentioned) taking a snip unless they were former shisho or the like. Is there some kind of practice or even unwritten rule that only the shisho takes a snip as representative of the oyakatas of the heya? Can someone recall how common it is for some run-of-the-mill oyakata of the same heya to do a snip at a danpatsu-shiki? (Laughing...)
ilovesumo Posted October 4, 2006 Author Posted October 4, 2006 Fujishima WAS there, he was one Shinpan for the Makkuuchi bouts. Musashimaru was seen in this blue security clothes after Hayateumi's Danpatsu Shiki on Sunday. So he was around but not for the fans. I don't know the rules who is why allowed to cut a mage, but one of the japanese fans told me, both are not allowed cause they are intai...ahem, but at least Fujishima having a kabu...hm, I don't know. (Laughing...)
Itachiyama Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 (edited) Musashigawa-beya has also a lot of great pictures (63) on their homepage. Link Edited October 16, 2006 by Itachiyama
