Joeblack Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 (edited) Chiyonofuji >>>>> Asashoryu. The body is just incredible. Nobody can beat a guy with that kind of conditioning. Chiyonofuji was able to out muscle stronger guy. I think Asashoryu would have problem dealing with a stronger guy. A strong guy like Akebono would easily push Asashoryu out but not Chiyonofuji. s0101 Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 (edited) Wow (Happy goodbyes...) what a great rikishi he was. :-( thank you for the links. Do you have for Taiho??? Chiyonofuji >>>>> Asashoryu. The body is just incredible. Nobody can beat a guy with that kind of conditioning. Chiyonofuji was able to out muscle stronger guy. I think Asashoryu would have problem dealing with a stronger guy. A strong guy like Akebono would easily push Asashoryu out but not Chiyonofuji. hmmm... I didn't know Asashoryu was the strongest of all current rikishi, unless my eyes were cheated by some spell... :-) Edited September 30, 2006 by sono
Hananotaka Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 It's ironic that Chiyonofuji's 53 win streak should start with such crappy sumo! :-( But was one wicked dashi-nage he had.
Hananotaka Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 hmmm... I didn't know Asashoryu was the strongest of all current rikishi, unless my eyes were cheated by some spell... :-( If by strongest you mean "winningest", yes he is. If you mean strongest by "raw, physical power", a few guys have him beat. Kaio, Wakanosato, and Baruto, for three.

If I may disagree with you friend.....Since when does Asashoryu fall under the category of "not a strong rikishi?" While true Chiyonofuji had quite the muscular physique, (steroids?) and was incredibly strong, Asashoryu would have about a 50lb weight advantage on him, (even so Asashoryu doesn't exactly have 100% body fat.) While granted there's no way to tell who would win between the two I wouldn't be so quick to put my money on even the great "Chiyonofuji." I also think Asashoryu would have an excellent chance at beating Akebono, were the two able to meet in their prime. Edited September 30, 2006 by Ryukaze

It's not that Asashoryu is "not a strong rikishi?", but Asashoryu gets push back by other rikishi too often.

Kintamayama Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tncBoTe6m3Y&NR 2:25. Chiyonofuji says something to the gyoji. Oh..

Can't see anything he could have been dissapointed about with the gyoji, (tachiai was clean, no hair pulling etc.) Probably just dissapointed, critiquing his own performance of sorts.......you gotta love that music in the video though, sweeeeet! (Applauding...)
sekitori Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 It's not that Asashoryu is "not a strong rikishi?", but Asashoryu gets push back by other rikishi too often. Asashoryu has an amazing sense of his position on the dohyo and when he thinks he's been pushed back far enough, he counterattacks. Most rikishis appear to be in a losing position as they're being pushed backward. Not so with Asashoryu. When I see Asashoryu being pushed backward, my reaction is not that that he'll lose. It's the anticipation of waiting for him to reverse a position that would be negative for most rikishis. In Asashoryu's case, being pushed back has nothing to do with being pushed out.
Jakusotsu Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 .......you gotta love that music in the video though, sweeeeet! (Applauding...)The last time I heard that kind of music in a movie, the actors had even less clothes on... ;-)
