madorosumaru Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 Ama: (It was not to be against "The Man") I just couldnt hit him head-on [at tachiai]. There were so many people rooting for me so I wanted things to turn out differently. Well, I'll just have to gambarize towards next basho. More Ama: (Thoughts at asageiko) If I win, the basho would really get interesting. I'm gonna need to use my noggin. (Apres musubi-no-ichiban) I was too psyched up and couldn't do anything. Asashoryu: (Riled by all the "Let's go, Ama" calls during shikiri) I thought, "That little sunavagun." More Ryu: (After the bout) I could sense that Ama was tight as a drum. I've been through this many times, but the first yusho is really tough. Kitanoumi Rijicho: When the going gets tough, the tough gets going. That's Asashoryu's strength. The yusho is 99% his. Hakuho: (Losing his 5th against Chiyotaikai) I closed my eyes when his head hit me in the right side of the face. More Hakuho: (Reflecting on the state of affairs) Sumo is sure difficult. (Sigh) [My mother told me] there will be times like this. (More sighs) Takekaze: (Kachi-koshi in his first postnuptial basho) I was so anxious last night that I couldn't sleep, but my wife stayed up to keep me company. This kachi-koshi belongs to the both of us. Aminishiki: (Nary a fight against Tochiazuma) My head got turned to the side. Darn. I wanted the bout to last a little longer. Miyabiyama: (Still needs one more win for KK) What? If I win the remaining bouts and then 13 in Kyushu, I'd still have a chance at ozeki? C'mon, guys. I've been worn out these last few basho and I want to relax a little. Gimme a break already! Tamakasuga: (Finally a win . . . a win!) The moment I won, I had to pinch myself, "This is not a mistake. I really did win, right?" Roho: (Fooled by Mickey) [That dirty rat] henka'd me at tachiai. And I had that in my mind, too. Tosanoumi: (Not giving Homasho a chance) I did a good tachiai. You know, I lost to him last basho when I tried a pull. They call me a "Youngster Killer," but it's gotten to the point where all I have around me are youngsters. Iwakiyama: (Making quick work of Kisenosato) Just as I planned. Hey, I still feel like a 20-year-old. Just like you-know-who. Kotomitsuki: (Managing KK despite a four-loss streak) Darn that losing streak. I really thought this would be the basho. Well, what the hey. I'm glad to get kachi-koshi. Kotooshu: (KK on Day 13) The last two basho, it took me till the final day to eke out KK, so I am relieved that I got it done early this time. Chiyotaikai: (Not ideal, but what the hey) My tachiai was much too high. I couldn't get down to match Hakuho's low position. But, ironically, that's probably what threw off the force of his hit. Tochiazuma: I was wary against Aminishiki because I lost to him in Osaka even though I got into my favored position. I'm sure glad I got kachi-koshi. My knee is still not good. It just won't function properly. Anticipatory Quotes of the Day Kitanoumi Rijicho: (On the moribund Hakuho tsuna-tori) Even if he wins zensho yusho in Kyushu, the bad images of this basho would linger. Sawai: (Likely promotion to juryo after zensho yusho in makushita) If I get promoted, I would, of course, want to beat Tochiozan. Retrospective Quotes of the Day Ama: (On his role model, Takanohana I) Even with that small body of his, he would never run away at tachiai. I love the way he would bang his head into his opponents and topple them. Former yokozuna Kitanofuji, NHK commentator: (On Ama's surprising henka victory over Kisenosato) Um . . . well . . . aah . . . for small-sized rikishi, it would be one of their . . .aah . . . available tactics. I suppose you could forgive a guy for using it once or twice a year. Bart Sez Nada

madorosumaru Posted September 22, 2006 Author Posted September 22, 2006 ...Roho: (Fooled by Mickey) [That dirty rat] henka'd me at tachiai. And I had that in my mind, too. ... Roho's the one who henkas more often, right? (Showing respect...) Henka is one of those things in life--such as, cheating on one's spouse--that is always justifiable to the one who is doing it, but unforgivable to the one who is the victim of the act.
